  1. Knee-high soccks (stripey or otherwise) with just above the knee skirts on 5 year old girls?
  2. Footless tights (ditto) with skirts and ballet pumps for 5yo girls?
(ie too precocious or fine?)
  1. skinny leg jeans and longish jumpers on size 16 (but with not bad thighs) worn with a) slouch boots or b)collar boots

Not sure if these are exactly the sort of boots but that kind of thing iyswim

links for boots not working for me.
skirts and socks very trendy looking but not for my dds.

MrsBadger · 24/09/2006 11:42
  1. fine
  2. don't see why not
  3. not a big fan of the heels but if she can't wear skinny jeans at 16 when can she?
Carmenere · 24/09/2006 11:47

A - fine
b - fine
c - hate skinny leg jeans on anyone over a size 12, makes them look like fashion victims as they are only ever flattering on anorexic teens, sorry.

gravity · 24/09/2006 12:11

fine, fine and I hate skinny leg jeans i am size 8-10 and i feel huge when i wear skinny leg jeans, puts emphasis on the thighs too much

1: v cute
2: nice providing the entire outfit isn't pink and from Next or Primark - I like this sort of look worn in a quirkier way - eg: my dd wears it with a cute little Gap cropped cardigan and a little beret!
3: no no to skinny jeans imho, on anyone bigger than a size 10, or a v tall size 12 - and tbh I don't even think they're all that flattering even then

Moomin · 24/09/2006 12:28

sorry - link just goes to front page, not the boots.
dd1 is 5 and tall & slim. I bought the 1st thing for her yesterday and she looks lovely but dh was a bit worried she looked a bit 'precocious'. I told him I would agree if she was 13 but at 5 they have to be allowed things like that as they are perfectly innocent.

2nd thing I think I will get as I think it would suit her.

3rd thing is for me ! Thought the boots would counteract the triangle legs-look maybe? Rather like bootcut jeans do? and the long jumper would cover the very tops of thighs? maybe not then! I had my hair cut yesterday and am not sure whether i like it. It's much shorter and it's cut really well, very funky, but I don't know whether it's a bit mutton dressed up as mutton. was trying to think of some new clothes to go with my new-ish look

oh Moomin, if you have nice legs, and it makes you feel good, wear the jeans with the jumper! Siz 16 is not huge and as none of us can see you, none of us can judge. I am a skinny cow but one of my friends is size 16/18 and is far more adventurous than me in wearing 'fashionable' clothes. She walways looks beautiful, real goddess material, especially as he hair is cut very well and she is great with make-up. When I am out with her, I feel .

Can't really comment on the little girl clothes, as i have boys, but generally don't like adult fashions on little people.

NotSoUselessMum · 24/09/2006 12:49
  1. fine
  1. fine but I agree, not to pinky and girly girl.
  1. I am not sure about skinny jeans. I haven't seen many people looking nice in them, even the young and slim. I swore never to fall for it again as I know they are not flattering (I am a sixe 10-12) but there's so much coverage that i found myself trying them on. But no, other cut are much more flattering, confortable and versatile.
Moomin · 24/09/2006 14:02

I only thought about skinny jeans because i want to tuck them into the boots. Soome of my bootcuts are quite slim-fitting down the leg then flared at calf. surely skinny jeans would have same sort of fit down the thigh? aren't they only 'skinny' jeans because they taper so much at the ankle?

  1. Sounds ace
  2. Bit teenagey for a 5yo
  3. footwear sounds good but skinny jeans are O-V-E-R! A more classic jean cut pretty much always looks better.
Moomin · 24/09/2006 15:16

yes ok will hold fire on the kids-from-fame-look for dd1. and take advice on the skinny jeans. maybe will get some straight leg ones for wearing with jeans as a compromise

moondog · 24/09/2006 15:53

Never cover arse with jumper.Makes it look bigger.
I hate skinny jeans full stop. I am a size 12 and I wouldn't wear them.Bad memories from first time 'round I think.

franca70 · 24/09/2006 16:11

1 fine
2 think5 is too young
3 go for it!

NotSoUselessMum · 24/09/2006 17:42

Moomin, I wanted to tuck them in my boots too. I still do but they never look as nice as i imagine it somehow...

WideWebWitch · 24/09/2006 17:44

My view:

  1. Knee-high soccks (stripey or otherwise) with just above the knee skirts on 5 year old girls? FINE, WHY WOULD THERE BE A PROBLEM?
  1. Footless tights (ditto) with skirts and ballet pumps for 5yo girls? DITTO
(ie too precocious or fine?)
  1. skinny leg jeans and longish jumpers on size 16 (but with not bad thighs) worn with a) slouch boots or b)collar boots DON'T CARE AS LONG AS YOU THINK IT LOOKS OK

I should stay out of the style section, I so don#t have strong views on these things!

Twiglett · 24/09/2006 17:47

we're legislating now?

footless tights are ridiculous

as are skinny jeans even on skinny people

iota · 24/09/2006 17:50

oh no - I remember skinny jeans tucked into boots and a big jumper from the 80's - I did wear them I have to confess and I was size 14 ( the old size 14 which seems to be about a 10 these days)

I think it looked OK with the boots on, but dire when you took them off ( e.g. in the house)

im with fullmoonfiend on this one - agree with every word (not that i know her friend, but ykwim)

nulnulcat · 24/09/2006 19:37

if you want to wear skinny jeans and boots wear them!! who made it law that fashion is only for the under 25's!

im 35 wear skinny jeans with knee boots / stillettos - love my red patent ones or strappy sandals depending on my mood and the weather,

havent worn them with a jumper as weather to hot so have long t shirt type tops / long shirts etc with belts or mini dresses over the top of them

Pollyanna · 24/09/2006 19:46

I bought some knee high socks and a skirt for my 5 yo dd today - she looks really cute (the Lolita thing did cross my mind though...).

Straight jeans better imo..

Bozza · 24/09/2006 20:32
  1. Fine
  2. OK but not sure ballet pumps are that practical a shoe for a 5yo (in terms of support etc) so OK as a special occasion shoe only IMO.
  3. Fine also
kickassangel · 24/09/2006 21:12
  1. i love that look,
  2. won't she get blisters without socks?
  3. i'm a size 16/18 & happily wear that - but not this season as they're 'out' now. as a teenager i was a rock chick (pirate lookalike?) so was delighted to wear this again! Don't care what other people think, skin tight jeans are the best. boot leg are for middle aged women, and my definition of when middle age begins just keeps going up!
