  1. Knee-high soccks (stripey or otherwise) with just above the knee skirts on 5 year old girls?
  2. Footless tights (ditto) with skirts and ballet pumps for 5yo girls?
(ie too precocious or fine?)
  1. skinny leg jeans and longish jumpers on size 16 (but with not bad thighs) worn with a) slouch boots or b)collar boots

Not sure if these are exactly the sort of boots but that kind of thing iyswim

ooo don't say that kissass, i've been living in bootcuts for the past 5 years! the shape suits me as my thighs are ok but i have big tree trunk ankles so it looks like my legs are on upside down!

the 2nd look for dd1 would have been a party-look as she's the world's biggest moaner if her shoes hurt and ballet-style ones would definitely rub! think we'll stick to the long socks

kickass not true! a nice bootcut takes years off you!

Mojomummy · 24/09/2006 22:00

My DD1 (age 3) has knee length sock & knee length skirt combo....but she folds the socks down (I got them for warmth rather than fashion )

No to ballet shoes - agree with needing more support. Footless tights...not keen

If you want to wear skinny jeans, go for it !

crunchie · 24/09/2006 22:17

Well I bought DD's a really cute outfit this weekend. They are 5 and 7 and I bought them variations on denim dungaree dresses with furry trimmed gilets and leather knee high boots, they look so fab.

OTOH I bought skinny jenas for the first time (I am a size 12) and they look great. They are not so tight as to be like leggings, but they do look cool and different to my bootlegs. A nice change IMHO

However I only bought them as I promised myself I would when I reached a size 12, last year I bought a size 18 jean and I looked daft in skinny jeans!!

  1. How does size 16 not 'not bad thighs' go together?
expatinscotland · 24/09/2006 22:27
  1. No. I don't like short skirts on young girls.
  1. OK
  1. Dunno, would depend on the outfit. Could be a bit too retro.
Bozza · 25/09/2006 12:52

You see I don't have a problem on shortish (it does say just abobe the knee) A-line or pleated skirts on little girls. And obviously knee socks are great in autumn before it gets too cold.

First good look, second too teenage (and ballet shoes offer no support for young feet and prevent free running about and play - they need straps on their shoes)
Third, does it look good on you? It's not a look I love tbh but I'm not wearing it.

wanderingstar · 25/09/2006 14:20

No
No
No
I'm in a minority then ?

sorrell · 25/09/2006 19:05

what's wrong with a skirt and socks on a five year old? What did you wear when you were five? A burkah?

Moomin · 25/09/2006 22:00

cheeky bint expat. not everyone who is size 16 has thunderthighs

OP posts:
wanderingstar · 25/09/2006 22:49

No need to be aggressive Sorrell. I just happen not to like knee length socks on anyone, OK ?

What does a burkah have to do with it anyway ?

sorrell · 25/09/2006 22:50

Not aggressive, merely baffled. I thought socks and a skirt were standard wear for a five year old. What's to disapprove of? What DID you wear when you were five???

wanderingstar · 25/09/2006 22:55

Oooh I was 5 decades ago..yes I wore skirts, shorts etc. and back in the 60's knee length socks were popular, but I don't like the look today. I have a dd of 7, so not much older than the prototype child of the OP. I just think little girls look more like little girls if their clothing isn't too knowingly uberfashionable.

Enid · 27/09/2006 09:51

dd1 wears short skirts with either tights or ankle/trainer socks

knee length socks are a pita they always go baggy
