Fallen in love with two coats.....please help me choose!

I have wanted a cape for ages. Just fallen on this:
gray cape coat

It is so cute. It has a hood and I think would look amazing with skinnies and boots. I just wish they would show a photo of it on a model, right now I've no idea how it falls or fits or anything.

Then there's this:

gray Zara coat

Which I've tried on in the shop. It has one button only, at the top, so it's sort of a cape....and it's a thin sort of material so you can wear jumpers underneath and not get too hot.

(am in France so don't know if you'll be automatically redirected to the UK site or what....)

I just want both. I can't choose.

what do you think?

Love the Zara one!

Looks a bit more wearable IMO (but I'm in rural Devon so anything that isn't a Barbour or Quba jacket is considered outlandish here Grin)

PrimalLass · 08/09/2014 11:48

The coat. The cape will be annoying to wear - cold arms.

sunflower49 · 08/09/2014 11:50

I prefer the first one! It's more unusual, but I get the points about cold arms and capes being a bit annoying!

that was very helpful, wasn't it :)

KoalaDownUnder · 08/09/2014 11:52

I prefer the Zara one, too, I'm not sure why - I don't like the little buttons on the Cos one, I think.

foxybingodotcom · 08/09/2014 11:52

The Zara coat - cape is impractical and I don't like the buttons.

Shopgirl1 · 08/09/2014 11:54

Love the Zara one. Is it only available in size M? Seems all that's left on the website and in stores near me. Zara is so unpredictable size wise, I'm a small 12, have Zara things in M and L. Wonder if M would fit me..

Eggs · 08/09/2014 11:59

I love the Cos one, however on looking at the picture it doesn't look like it is lined - not so good for a winter coat.

velourvoyageur · 08/09/2014 12:00

Thanks guys!

I keep looking at both of them and thinking how I can cut back on my food budget for the next few months Hmm

Yeah I think it's just M, I'm not sure there was ever a small or large. In the shop there were just mediums. I would go for an S personally because the M was ever so slightly larger than I'd normally go for, but what ho. I'm sure it would fit you as a small 12.

Hmm...might pop into a store tomorrow and try it on, in a similar manner to you there will be cut backs required, but it's very nice.

Cos usually do show things on models, but with the way things are cut there I never risk online shopping, especially as it takes ages to deliver so by the time you know it's the wrong size the right one has sold out. Is there a store anywhere near you?

velourvoyageur · 08/09/2014 18:22

update! for those who have a fondness for the impractical cape option:

ta da, on a model!

now, my question is...would it look ridiculous to have jumperclad arms poking out of the short sleeves? I think I'd have to be all grey tones and yes, very architect like.
I still really like it, can't help it. It's kind of quirky but looks smartish at the same time.

shop hmm, not sure, good suggestion though.

TBH heart says cape and head zara, so yeah, considering you'll have to save hard for it then it needs to be the coat. OTOH you could probably get a coat and a cape on ebay for the price range you're looking at.

Amandaclarke · 08/09/2014 19:10

The cape, oh my the cape...I think I am going to have to have one myself!

Coat is lovely but could look old/aging - it reminds me a tiny bit of those camel duffly numbers from years gone by.

GrouchyKiwi · 08/09/2014 19:16

The cape is fabulous. I don't like the other as much. Seems a little shapeless.

aoife24 · 08/09/2014 19:17

I like the Zara one but to me it's a jacket not a coat and I'd need something longer for winter.

XiCi · 08/09/2014 19:21

Don't like the zara one at all. The cape is lovely.

Chewbecca · 08/09/2014 19:23

I think jumpers would be fine sticking out... But you won't always be wearing a jumper.

When I wore a cape, I had some raspberry/wine coloured leather elbow length gloves to help me keep warm, I loved them. They were from John Lewis but they don't have them now, maybe too early in season.

BigPawsBrown · 08/09/2014 19:27

Get the cape. You want the cape, you just feel the need to justify it, but you don't need to justify it! It's still a coat and you'll wear long sleeves in winter anyway. Any colour coming out underneath those arms would love lovely as grey is a neutral.

Get the cape!

capsium · 08/09/2014 19:27

If you like to carry a bag on your shoulder don't get the cape, shoulder bags bunch them up and a bag underneath looks bulky.

I had one many years ago and this was the only thing that annoyed me.

capsium · 08/09/2014 19:28

Although I notice this one does actually have sleeves, so you might be ok...

minkymuskyslyoldstoaty · 08/09/2014 19:30

the cape is cute. can't see the zara one.

Fcukfifa · 08/09/2014 19:32

Love the cape, long gloves would look lovely withit too as a pp mentioned.

I think smallish across the shoulder bag will go with it

Amandaclarke · 08/09/2014 19:48

Oooh Chewbacca love your idea on the gloves....fantastic!

velourvoyageur · 08/09/2014 21:25

I have actually just seen that I got a deposit back which I wasn't expecting so I may be able to indulge my greed Grin but now have an eye on a Cos dress!! ffs!

I do see that gloves would be good. You'd need something quite sleek and slim I think, in contrast to the wide sleeves. The gloves and gaping sleeves, I just got an idea in my head of 50s Vogue, that's interesting.

The Zara one I have decided is a given.
I have a longish navy Topshop peacoat so looking for something a bit different, but I see what you mean aoife long coats are like a protective blanket against winter, so nice walking along in my peacoat and frost crunching underfoot.

Oh I will need a new bag, christ, I'll never get a capsule wardrobe together, never ever!

you did make me grin BigPaws, thanks for absolving my guilt, or well partly

I think I will need to resign myself to being a bit skinnier this autumn, redirect my budget and get both. It is the only way.

The cape is absolutely gorgeous. I want it!
