Matching undies - special occasions or a daily event?

I have worn matching underwear everyday for the last 14 years (matching colours counts, not just sets).

I like it because it makes me feel nice regardless of what I have on over the top.

The only exceptions when I broke this self imposed rule was when changing my normal bra for a sports bra.

I do feel I've missed out on some fun knickers over the years, but just couldn't bring myself to not match. Having a big bust means they don't always make my size in some designs Hmm

Now DS has arrived it had gone out of the window as not always possible plus I couldn't get a nude bf bra before he arrived and not happened since.

When I stop bf I plan to treat myself to some new sets and return to my old habits.

Is it just me or do many people like to match and find odd undies just feel a bit wrong.

I'd love to wear matching undies but i find the ones which match bras are a) horrible material (satiny and scratchy lace) which makes me sweat and itch and b) shockingly expensive (there is only one brand of bra that fits me so i don't have a lot of choices).

I only wear cotton pants (unless they aren't going to be on for long Wink ). So i tend to wear a nude bra and coloured knickers or a black/white bra and black/white cotton pants.

Atm i am bfing and have white, pink and wine coloured bras which just go with whatever is first i grab from the knicker drawer. When i last bfed i remember vowing to wear lovely matching sets all the time. I bought £200 of matching undies and all the kickers were horribly uncomfortable and ended up in the bin. :(

ThePerfectNegroni · 06/09/2014 07:21

I agree with mrskaola. If like to buy matching knickers but they are often made of polyester and are often very expensive. I like a proper cotton knicker. I'm an old fashioned kinda girl.

WipsGlitter · 06/09/2014 07:24

Never. I bought a few sets but because I'm a minger I wear the same bra a few days in a row you need to buy stacks of the matching pants and its expensive. Also agree that the pants are scratchy!

SinglePringle · 06/09/2014 07:25

Always matching. And I've cotton and silk sets (as well as polyester with cotton gussets).

Lagoonablue · 06/09/2014 07:29

I match colours but they are not sets. I always wear the same style bra in either nude or black plus Sloggi midi knickers in the same colour. Works for me! Don't like fancy underwear.

beccajoh · 06/09/2014 07:29

I have to wear cotton knickers or I get raging thrush. Most matching knickers aren't cotton, they're expensive and usually frilly/lacy and frigging uncomfy! (IMO). A five-pack of cotton knickers from M&S is my friend I'm afraid!

Bunbaker · 06/09/2014 07:41

I only wear t-shirt bras and cotton knickers, and they don't come in matching sets. I tend to wear underwear that makes the outerwear look good - so I usually wear nude or white bras with a smooth outline. I don't like lacy underwear. It is too scratchy and uncomfortable.

Sadly, M & S have stopped stocking my favourite knickers and all the no VPL are made from modal (whatever that is) with a cotton gusset. I just want 100% cotton.

peasandlove · 06/09/2014 07:51

I only wear the seamfree invisible type pants and the similar tshirt type bras so I only buy black or nude. So I guess matching every day yes.

ColdCottage · 06/09/2014 08:22

I must say I mainly wear black or nude so easy to match up knickers. Still feels nice to match, though nude undies have are never sexy.

nope but neither is the guys at working commenting that you're 'rocking a g' as I've heard at mine Wink

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 06/09/2014 10:16

Occasionally and the only matching sets I can bear (others are horrible material) are Elle MacPherson sets.

Lagoonablue · 06/09/2014 10:32

What is rocking a g?

peasandlove · 06/09/2014 10:33

wearing a g-string

ColdCottage · 06/09/2014 11:33

Marks and Spencer do very wearable but pretty sets. As do Calvin Kline - check out their outlets.

If I end up with a fancy bra I always but two matching pairs of knickers and then buy a couple of cotton pairs which match the main colour in the bra Grin

I'm always matching. I couldn't bear to be an accident & not be matching. Grin

ThePrisonerOfAzkaban · 06/09/2014 12:41

I do like too but lately finding it hard as I don't really do dark top and bottom clothing at the same time. The same goes for light colour clothing. So underwear is the same colour as my clothes and doesn't match. I should wear nude underwear but I hate the colour if it. If one of you could help please do!!!!!!

ColdCottage · 06/09/2014 12:45

I'm afraid nude is the only way to go.

Though you can wear white or light knickers under dark bottoms.

The problem is when you have light bottoms and a strappy top so bra straps show. Then it needs to be nude or a strapless light coloured bra which you can add dark straps to if you need extra support.

I don't think I've ever done this. Not even on my wedding day!

Bakeoffcakes · 06/09/2014 13:04

No I have enough problems making my outerwear looks ok, never mind worrying about underwear too.

Saurus72 · 06/09/2014 13:13

I concur with what others have said re: cotton knickers, and the horrible polyester ones that match nice bras - how come manufacturers don't do something about this I wonder? Plus, how can it be that Fantasie/Freya etc can make such great-fitting bras, but cannot make knickers that remain in place and are not consumed by my bum. Or is that just me Hmm..?

For everyday workwear, I tend to wear black Fantasie bras (lovely, and cheap cos I buy from ebay - BNWT of course), and black cotton Playtex knickers which are so so good, and again, I buy in bulk from ebay lest I run out.

For weekend, I have several (probably 5-6) matching sets of silk undies from the Rosie for Autograph range - navy, teal, pale green, cream, pink - that I wear. I kind of like having the differentiator of undies for work and for weekends, not sure why.

On a related note, now I'm 40 I think that I will pretty much only buy silk underwear from now on. Not sure how that link has come about in my head, maybe it's about feeling like a grown up laydee. Plus it is lovely and comfy and not high maintenance at all. There has to be some bonuses to entering middle age...

ColdCottage · 06/09/2014 13:25

Weekend undies sound lovely.

Don't think they make 32 F in silk though.

Plus 40 isn't middle aged. 50 maybe? They say we will all live to 100.

Love the idea of being 90 and rocking beautiful undies Grin

Matching here, but not sets. Mainly black bras and thongs or cheap drawers frim Primark. Or nude bra and drawers, again from Primark. Like a pp, I'd be mortified if I was in an accident and not matching.

AtlanticDrift · 06/09/2014 13:29

I wear my underwear to suit my outerwear iykwim. I wear alot of nude seamless bras & knickers. But for example yesterday I had a neon lace over flesh coloured pencil skirt on which required nude knickers. But on top I had a navy chiffon shirt on which needed a navy/black bra.
On the weekend and more during the winter because I'm wearing thicker clothes, it is nice to wear the sets.

AtlanticDrift · 06/09/2014 13:31

On the subject of underwear, Lejaby is just beautiful stuff and it lasts for absolutely ages showing no signs of wear

ThePrisonerOfAzkaban · 06/09/2014 13:43

See I find if I wear a nice pair of light pants under dark trousers especially jeans they tend to get the dye on them and look grey very quickly. Even more especially if they are newish jeans
