What do I wear over the top of this dress (wedding in Scotland, brrrrr)

I've bought this dress but in nude: www.riverisland.com/women/dresses/peplum-dresses/Pink-asymmetric-frill-peplum-dress-658148

For a wedding in September, on Loch Lomund. I'm going to freeze unless I can find a jacket/coat/shawl of some description to fit over that bloody enormous shoulder ruffle - I've tried it with a pashmina but the 80s power suit/floaty scarf combo just looks a bit odd. Can anyone point me a better direction?

Link fail?

EliandmE · 28/08/2014 21:24

Sorry I don't know how to make links work - it's a peplum dress with a ridiculous shoulder ruffle made out of foam/wet suit material.

Nicer in RL than it sounds I promise Smile

Mmm. Difficult. Wonder if a v pale grey faux fur cape might work, if such a thing could be found?

Buttercup27 · 28/08/2014 21:31

A cloak of alcohol ? Sorry not helpful but gorgeous dress.

FamiliesShareGerms · 28/08/2014 21:32

Very tricky, as that is a dress designed not to be covered up!

I'd go with a huge shawl wrap thingy that is deliberately not trying to match the dress, IYSWIM. Will have a look for ideas.

Budget?

RosieLig · 28/08/2014 21:33

Do you know if you're in a marquee or indoors? Is it the end of September? If you're in a marquee I might rethink the dress, you'll freeze!

FamiliesShareGerms · 28/08/2014 21:37

Something like this worn in style 2?

KissMyFatArse · 28/08/2014 21:38

Oh that dress is gorgeous! What about a white faux fur short jacket? And the weather in sep can be gorgeous at loch Lomond so fingers crossed!

If the wedding is at duck bay/the cruin/ lodge on loch etc they have gorgeous outdoor areas so take something warm so you can enjoy it x

EliandmE · 28/08/2014 21:39

Thanks all - budget about £50 but could double that for something with some practical use for the rest of Autumn/Winter.

An invisible alcohol cloak will certainly be used later in the day, I just need something to get me through the service, which according to DM is outdoors!

If it helps I'm going for a rose gold clutch bag (and either nude kitten heels or rose gold gladiator sandals) which match the zip of the nude version of the dress.

Coast

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/08/2014 21:43

Too long though.

EliandmE · 28/08/2014 21:44

Checked the invite and the service is at Boturich Castle - according to the website they do indoor and outdoor ceremonies so DM could be right. Thanks for all the links, I'm just working my way through them

Keep with the Scottish theme? www.amazon.co.uk/Discountfan-Winter-Tartan-Scarves-Spinning/dp/B00HWKGHBW/ref=pd_sim_sbs_ap_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0RAF6Z00AADTJRY1RM24

Less floaty...more cosy....

ouryve · 28/08/2014 21:46

Thermal knickers? :o

KissMyFatArse · 28/08/2014 21:47

Oh lovely! That is a fab venue! Hope you's get the weather for it! X

MyFirstName · 28/08/2014 21:48

Or this...more dramatic black and white? yasfx.buzznet.com/photos/wouldyourockthis/?id=68319527

AutumnshadesofGold · 28/08/2014 21:53

Scotland in sept?? It's hardly the North Pole lol Grin

You'll be fine!!

MaryWestmacott · 28/08/2014 21:55

I'm sorry, but I think that's the wrong dress for an outdoor wedding. It's hard to wear anything over the top without it looking a bit lumpy and odd, it's a dress to be worn only if you can wear it without needing something over the top.

Whatever you go for, it's not going to look very good. It might be better to start again with a £100 budget for a dress with sleeves or £50 dress and £50 cover up/jacket.

FamiliesShareGerms · 28/08/2014 21:58

Nice but not warm enough?

EliandmE · 28/08/2014 22:34

This is why I love MN - you get the full spectrum from don't be such a pussy to you're probably going to die.

I should say only the service is outdoors, the reception venue definitely has four walls and a roof. And alcohol and dancing for added warmth.

I think my favourite option so far is the first wooly wrap - I might look horribly misshapen but at least I'd be toasty and I imagine that might come in handy on other occasions. Although I do love a bit of faux fur. Maybe I need a fake dead fox stole (sp?) to hang loosely round my shoulders/scare small children with later in the evening.

I've done a quick wardrobe check and I do have alternative dress options (plenty of LBDs in there).

100 miles North of Loch Lomond and it was 25 degrees today. The West is rarely cold but I would be ready I for the odd spot of rain.

EliandmE · 28/08/2014 22:41

You can almost guarantee it's going to be a glorious day Rose now I've put so much thought into a bad weather back up plan!
