I read through the post and I really felt that this was me, stuck in a hair rut, I thought that MyGastIsFlabbered looked fabulous after taking the plunge! For ages now I have been saying to myself that I so want to do something with my hair......It is just hair with length to it, not much style and certainly not glam like so many women manage to wear it. I would so love a really short fresh looking cut, something that can be washed daily and takes seconds to quickly blow dry...... I know short is not as glam as flowing locks but I just don't like how mine is and would love it really short and what I call fresh, which to me means it just falls into place naturally.

I have posted a pic of me and if you all could give me some ideas of what you think would suit me I will print off the ones I like and take them to the salon. I would love to be there next week and leave a new me! My picture is recent but I had my Mum snip off about 3" last week so it is not as long now!

I'm in the same position & going from long hair like yours to a bob in under an hour from now squueeeeee! I already have a side fringe though which took a bit of getting used to.

I'm starting a Pinterest page purely for short/medium bobs & am taking that to the hairdressers on my tablet so she has an idea but this pic is what I want :)

Firstly, you're soooo pretty so I think you could pull off any style! Saying that, I think a fringe would suit you. I like this style and think it would look fab on you.

are those 2 pictures the same model? Look the same to me but with her cut grown out a bit?

AntiDistinctlyMintyMunty · 28/08/2014 12:54

I didn't even look at the first one too closely. It does look like the same woman. How spooky is that?! Grin

BeCool · 28/08/2014 12:56

I know -weird!

Lovely cuts though

Jojomo7 · 28/08/2014 13:59

Thanks for the styles...I fancy being brave and chopping it shorter...... Im glad some people think I wuld suit it though!

Shorter than the styles we posted? If so, what type of hair do you have and I can look for photos? I can see the photo but difficult to tell if it's wavy/curly/thick and how it behaves etc

SublimeCorpse · 28/08/2014 14:35

I need to do this - so marking my place Smile

SublimeCorpse · 28/08/2014 14:37

Op - you're really pretty and I think you could carry off a short cut!

I've been watching YouTube videos of people going from long to short, some good ideas on there

Jojomo7 · 28/08/2014 14:43

Hi again, my hair type is fine but plenty of it and it is naturally quite straight, the pic above I had put in my heated rollers not much earlier and the curl just drops out.....the good thing is that it behaves as once its dry, if I leave it straight, it hardly changes all the time I am out.

If you want to go proper short then I'd look up photos of ginnifer goodwin. Her hair always looks gorgeous. Love sienna miller's when it was short too.

Agree with those who say that OP is beautiful and could carry off any hairstyle! I love those short cuts Anti. That's what I wanted my hair to look like when I had it cut short (at the start of 2013) but my hair was too badly behaved (it's thick, wavy/curly, and quite wiry). OP you look like your hair is probably quite well-behaved, in which case you could easily carry off one of these short, floppy, silky-looking cuts.

Jojomo7 · 28/08/2014 18:22

Thanks Anti, I like the general look of the styles that you have put up, I am a bit unsure about the long fringes though, I have never had a fringe as my hair has always been long and I think that a shorter fringe that would not get in my eyes as it grows would be better, friends have had long fringes and often say it annoys them as it falls in their eyes........I have started to look on Google and there are so many options.......

Good luck op. Let us know what you decide on!

Jojomo7 · 29/08/2014 12:26

I have booked an appointment for a consultation with a hairdresser for Monday, she has asked me to bring in some styles that I like and she will then advise what would look good....ii am a little nervous... it just is not easy to know what would suit me!
Any more style advice would be appreciated..... I do not want to get it wrong!

Greengardenpixie · 29/08/2014 13:13

I think your hair looks lovely! Dont chop it! I think its beautiful the way it is!

Coumarin · 29/08/2014 16:24

I think you really suit your hair long too.

Also I personally found short hair much more hard work to style and keep looking good. I have very thick, naturally wavy hair though.

Sorry to go against the majority. It boils down to how you feel. It will grow back after all.

Greengardenpixie · 29/08/2014 16:35

Im glad i am not alone. With long hair you can style it up. I think you should get a good cut at the hairdresser without losing the length. It really suits you as it is.

bonzo77 · 29/08/2014 16:35

OP you have beautiful hair. Those short-ish styles above take a lot of styling. You have to do them each day. Your hair looks like mine, fairly thick with a bit of a natural wave. Well, on shorter hair that suddenly becomes unmanageable kinky hair that needs straightening. I currently have mine in a short graduated bob (chin length at the front). It really does need washing and blow drying every other day to look good (but I don't, so it looks a bit crappy on the third day).

monsterowl · 29/08/2014 16:51

I agree that OP's hair is lovely long. It's okay to want a change though. OP, if you're nervous, you could go shorter very gradually - maybe start by getting a shoulder-skimming cut, then if you like it you could get more cut off next time?

Coumarin · 29/08/2014 19:03

Bonzos experience with short hair is the same as mine. If you have wavy, thick hair, (from your pic it looks like you do), then I'd be cautious about going as short as some of those pics above.

Jojomo7 · 30/08/2014 00:34

Hi thanks for the concern about keeping it long, I have had long hair all my life and have often thought I would like to cut it short. I said I was nervous but it is in an excited way, I want to cut it short, I am not a fashion or style guru but I feel I want a simple short fresh cut, if I regret it once I have cut it off I can always grow it back over time but it is something I want to do.......
I would love a few more short style pictures to consider.......here are 6 that I am considering so far....

How short do you want to go? The pixie photos posted so far are reasonably long pixies, and if you don't want a long fringe then obviously an option would be to go for a shorter one. Michelle Williams has had lots of gorgeous pixie cuts with shorter fringes, and obviously there's also people like Emma Watson. If you want a pixie (which it sounds like you do) but without a big sweepy fringe (which I agree can be irritating!) then try searching for pictures of them, or I have attached a couple of other pics below. I don't necessarily agree that cutting it in stages is the best way - I have a pixie and went from long to pixie (I donated mine to The Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children with cancer and alopecia etc - they take hair 8 inches or longer). I love having a pixie, but a few years before I'd had a bob that I didn't like and grew straight back out, so I'd have never reached a pixie if I'd decided to do the gradual stages thing, although I can see how it could be a good option for people who are particularly attached to their hair or very nervous about going short. But you sound like you have decided you want to, so I'd find a couple of pictures I like and take them to the hairdresser, but more importantly I'd listen to what they suggest, as they can see your hair type etc and know what will and won't work. I find I get the best cuts when I tell hairdressers to do whatever they want!
