I read through the post and I really felt that this was me, stuck in a hair rut, I thought that MyGastIsFlabbered looked fabulous after taking the plunge! For ages now I have been saying to myself that I so want to do something with my hair......It is just hair with length to it, not much style and certainly not glam like so many women manage to wear it. I would so love a really short fresh looking cut, something that can be washed daily and takes seconds to quickly blow dry...... I know short is not as glam as flowing locks but I just don't like how mine is and would love it really short and what I call fresh, which to me means it just falls into place naturally.

I have posted a pic of me and if you all could give me some ideas of what you think would suit me I will print off the ones I like and take them to the salon. I would love to be there next week and leave a new me! My picture is recent but I had my Mum snip off about 3" last week so it is not as long now!

I would not go to very short from long, it is too much of a shock!

Try a choppy longer bob first? Or hair like Carly Kloss?

CharlieBrookerScowl · 30/08/2014 09:26

It's your hair and you know you best.

I went and had a long ponytail chopped off and turned into a pixie cut. It was a shock at first but looked great and was a refreshing change! You have a lovely face+face shape so just go for it if it's what you want! Smile

And like you said, hair grows back so it's not as big a thing as it seems.

CharlieBrookerScowl · 30/08/2014 09:27

(I loved it so much I had short hair for years after that and have only just grown it into a bob recently. Good luck on the new 'do).

CharlieBrookerScowl · 30/08/2014 09:29

(Oo and forgot to say, I would definitely go for something with a decent fringe and longish 'side burns' to flatter your face, regardless of general length) Smile

I think you'd look fabulous with short hair. do it!

Take your hairdresser's advice, she will know what will work with your hair/face but I do like Michelle Williams' hair when it was short.

buttercrumble · 30/08/2014 15:19

How about this , I think it would look fab on you Smile

Hi Buttercrumble, I like that style but I just could not cope with a long side swept fringe, it would drive me crazy......I just fancy something short, fresh and simple.....short elegant and stylish rather than trendy!

What about something like this? She's had loads of amazing pixies. I think that actually you seem to have a pretty good idea of what you want though - you seem to have decided on a pixie, and don't want a long sweepy fringe. That immediately narrows it down loads. Have you found any pictures you particularly like so far?

Hi Purple penguin. I put some idea on the previous page, and funnily enough one of them is like the pic you have shown me...you are right I do fancy a simple Pixie type cut, I am just no longer interested in all this long hair.....short stylish and fresh is what I am after!!

The cool thing about short hair is that it grows out so quickly that you'll be able to have all six of those haircuts in quick succession if you want.

Sorry, I was reading the thread on my phone earlier and so completely missed your pictures! Just take a few with you to the hairdresser - they will get the idea of the sort of thing you want, and they will be able to adapt it to work with your hair type and face shape. Consider donating your hair to the Little Princess Trust if you do go short Smile I first went from long to pixie 3 years ago now, and it has been a pixie ever since then, apart from when I grew it to a chin length bob (and went through all the months of hideous hair to reach that), and was then asked to go back to the pixie for a show I was doing earlier this year! No plans to grow it out again any time soon - for a start it is so much easier and quicker, but also I think it is actually more flattering, and also makes you stand out a bit since so many women have long hair. I also like how often you can change it - I've had so many different pixie cuts, and it is fun being able to change it every couple of months. I think everyone should try it at least once! Also, if you're not that keen on the first cut, don't give up - go to a different hairdresser 6 weeks later. Cutting short hair well is quite hard I think, and just because you don't love one pixie doesn't mean you won't love another. I think people often make the mistake of going short but not getting a great cut, and then immediately growing it out and never trying it again. It's not for everyone, but once you have gone to pixie you may as well try a couple of different styles before growing it - it will only set you back 6 weeks or so if you do decide to grow it! Have attached a couple of pics of pixies I've had.

If you are going to cut it all off, would you consider donating it to the Little Princess Trust?

MissScatterbrain · 31/08/2014 09:02

Another one here with fine hair who had the chop and is loving it - I have a long fringe although its easily tucked behind my ear or clipped back when needed (similar hairstyle).

It does need washing more often but I don't need to spend much time drying and styling it (in fact I often don't bother as it dries naturally quickly).

I also love these looks: Audrey Tatou

You have soft (and very pretty!) features so I would be wary of going for spiky styles - that's just my personal opinion though.

Good luck!

Jojomo7 · 31/08/2014 10:25

Purplepenguin, your 3 styles that you have shown me are exactly what I have in mind, each is subtly different and all look fashionable and stylish. The styles sum up what I am after, an easy to manage naturally stylish haircut that looks just as fab to pop to the supermarket or a swanky dinner. You said that you also had long hair, it would be great to see a pic of you with it long as a comparison if you do not mind showing some. Some friends have warned me that I may regret cutting it all short but if my new haircut can look as good on me as short hair looks on you I will be absolutely delighted.
Your hairdresser is not by any chance anywhere near Watford?
With regard to the Little Princess Trust, my Mum has asked me if she can keep my ponytail once it is cut, ah how sweet! However I will look up what I need to do to donate as I am sure she will agree it is a better cause that I donate it to them.
Thank for your help everyone, I appreciate it.

Nowhere near Watford I'm afraid - Suffolk! Have attached a couple of pics - one when pre-chop and one post-chop (but I did find the fringe annoying, hence the later shorter cuts!)
