Curvista's - A wardrobe AW14/15 planning thread

Hello

I really enjoyed reading a curvy summer wardrobe thread a couple of months back, so I thought I'd see if anyone is up for an autumn/winter wardrobe planning thread.

I'm nearly 40 and never sure what I should be wearing anymore. Coupled with a few post DS wobbles and...lets say new shapes to deal with, I find I am struggling.

Are there any other MNetters who would like to join me in planning for AW14/15? We could share links, advice on shapes/colour/bargains/accessories and even trends from blogs.

Smile

I know I am probably paranoid but it just seems bad - I feel I look like Humpty Dumpty from the side as my tummy goes out from under boobs and rounds off above my crotch (I think I look ok from the front, almost hourglass shape Smile )

KristinaM · 24/08/2014 21:02

Are you wearing a super duper bra , to hoist these norks up ?

spookyskeleton · 24/08/2014 21:06

Yes, I have done the bra intervention and went from a 38B to a 36DD/E and it has made a huge difference. Still look like Humpty Dumpty though Sad

slug · 24/08/2014 21:25

Spooky, you are the same shape as me. Irritating isn't it? Makes it almost impossible to find jeans that fit because anything that fits on the waist is massive on hips and thighs.

I bought some maidenform flexee briefs off amazon, they have silicone bits so they don't ride up and I find them really comfy. Love their leggings too

goodasitgets · 24/08/2014 22:09

Oh and for bras I swear by ewa michalak. Uplift like you won't believe Wink

spookyskeleton · 24/08/2014 22:32

I have never worn shapewear so maybe I should investigate it Smile

I don't really get why I look like an hourglass from the front (shoulders and hips are the same width and waist goes in) but how is that possible??

I'm sorry if this sounds creepy but you have fantastic norks . Though I bet you get fed up of men talking to them

Dress is very flattering

goodasitgets · 24/08/2014 23:09

It's all the bra Wink
I'm quite lucky, even though they're big they are still fairly firm. But yes I get a lot of "dress is lovely but your boobs look huge"
This annoys me because if I said "lovely dress but your boobs look tiny" people would go mental, plus I can't really cover them up!!!

KristinaM · 24/08/2014 23:25

I find that dresses and my big norks can make me look very matronly, Now I'm a certain age. Rather than sexy

Though of course there are many occasions when sexy isn't a good look

KristinaM · 24/08/2014 23:26

I think this is why I avoid florals and pastels as they make me look like someone's gran .

goodasitgets · 24/08/2014 23:30

I wear florals quite a lot. Pastels no, I have red hair and I don't feel it works! Tend to stick with grey, blue, green

Helenagrace · 25/08/2014 00:12

Dress is gorgeous goodasitgets. Love the belt. I have a few wide belts and I'm going to try them.

I've bought a couple of Jersey shift dresses with elasticated fronts from M&S to wear with brogues / boots for winter. I can't seem to copy the link on my new phone. I work from home but I'm chair of governors at a school and so I do have some daytime meetings where I need a smart dress. Thought they might work dressed down too. I bought it in a purpley blue, navy and a green colour. Really gutted that it's sold out in grey as that's a staple winter colour for me (with purple accessories).

goodasitgets · 25/08/2014 00:21

I got some m&s boots in the sale which are a marvellous isabel marant copy. Were £59, last pair and my size for £8 GrinGrinGrin
Not available any more or I would have got two, suede as well

KristinaM · 25/08/2014 08:40

Excellent bargain !

MrsPnut · 04/09/2014 07:15

It's gone a bit quiet in here, hoping someone can help me find a merino wool or cashmere v necked jumper that finishes somewhere past my stomach and doesn't cost more than my months wages. I'm looking for a size 22 and a jewel colour ideally.

Crescent that dress is lovely but I am wanting more of a jumper than a tunic fussy I know

DottyDot · 08/09/2014 08:29

Joining the thread as I need to try and find a dress for a wedding I'm going to on Saturday - I'm an usher so extremely slightly anxious that this means I'll have to look fairly presentable as I'm going to end up on some of the official photos... Blush

Am an 18/20 with huge norkage and a hint of a waist if I breathe in and huge arse. I've got time on Wednesday and Thursday this week (not that I've left it until the last minute or anything) and am in Manchester so can hit town. I usually rely on Debenhams but might go a bit out of my comfort zone and have a look in Ghost/Cos??

Am clueless - have about 5 things I wear all the time that I can get in to and only own 1 pair of black shoes (for work) and 1 pair of black boots (for everything else). Blush So this will really be a top to bottom re-style...!

Any top tips about shops in Manchester/nice dresses for weddings much appreciated Grin
