Bought a Jaques Vert dress by accident.

Didnt realise what it was until I'd paid for it. I know it shouldn't matter but my mother shops at Jaques Vert! She's 70!

Anyway, it looks nice on which I guess is the main thing. I came out the changing cubicle and everyone sat waiting for their friends all did an intake of breath and told me how nice the dress was. Though they were all over 50 come to think of it.

I've got it for an evening wedding reception. Dress code is cocktail dresses and lounge suits. Is it a cocktail dress?? Should I have got something shorter?

And can anyone find me a nice wrap/something to chuck over it?

Link?

GalaxyInMyPants · 10/08/2014 15:40

I actually think it looks frumpier in that photo than it did on me.

Is it bad?

Cereal0ffender · 10/08/2014 15:41

It does look frump in the picture but I can imagine it being nice on.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 10/08/2014 15:43

Did you get the matching hat, shoes and jacket? (Sorry)
Actually I think it's quite nice.

GalaxyInMyPants · 10/08/2014 15:46

Ha ha. No didnt see the shoes, jacket, hat. Must go back! Grin

So can I wear it to a cocktail dress code event or is it too evening gown?

OP posts:
BravePotato · 10/08/2014 15:50

Technically knee length is cocktail, ankle length is evening gown.

But don't think anyone adheres to that anymore, much.

The dress is nice, probably highlights a slim waust snd is feminine.

But please never buy 100% polyester again! The sweaty static....pffffff

GalaxyInMyPants · 10/08/2014 15:51

I don't really do dresses. Chances are whatever I bought I'm never going to wear it again. I liked the fact it was less than half price.

That's not bad at all, kind of Grecian looking, wear a gold cuff or a load of bangles with it.

ilovepowerhoop · 10/08/2014 15:55

I also bought one of their dresses today (and I am only 40!!). It's not on the website but was reduced from £229 to £69 so it was a bargain. They have loads of stuff that is not for grannies although they are expensive

ilovepowerhoop · 10/08/2014 16:00

www.jacques-vert.co.uk/en/black-beaded-mesh-top-maxi-dress-589110 - this is the one I got at debenhams today

iwantgin · 10/08/2014 16:03

i think it's really nice.

GalaxyInMyPants · 10/08/2014 16:07

That dress is nice Powerhoop

I'm only 37. Have tried it on for dh who says its a bit Roman toga but I think he likes it.

Going to have to get it taken up as it trails on the floor. Thankfully my Jaques Vert loving mother is handy with a needle and thread.

I like it. And I dress a bit muttonymutton to be frank. It looks well cut

Oldbag I LOVE that Kaliko dress. How did you find the sizing? I'm an exact size 13 I think so if it comes up big I might squeeze into a 12

they must be a a bit generous as i managed to get into the size 18 dress whereas I would normally get a 20.

polyhymnia · 10/08/2014 16:46

Purple doesn't suit me but sounds like it does you.

I personally wouldn't feel comfortable going to a cocktail do in that length - so think your idea of taking it up is a good one.

trikken · 10/08/2014 16:52

Love it. I don't think it matters very much about the brand, as long as it looks nice on you and yoy feel good in it.

GalaxyInMyPants · 10/08/2014 17:17

I was only planning on taking the length up enough so I'm not standing on it. I don't think it would look right been cocktail length.

How about this

I'm 5ft3" and a size 16 so not skinny.

OP posts:
SofaCanary · 10/08/2014 17:24

Not sure how flattering that one would be, it's very tight!

GalaxyInMyPants · 10/08/2014 17:25

Probably would be a bit too figure hugging.
