Bought a Jaques Vert dress by accident.

Didnt realise what it was until I'd paid for it. I know it shouldn't matter but my mother shops at Jaques Vert! She's 70!

Anyway, it looks nice on which I guess is the main thing. I came out the changing cubicle and everyone sat waiting for their friends all did an intake of breath and told me how nice the dress was. Though they were all over 50 come to think of it.

I've got it for an evening wedding reception. Dress code is cocktail dresses and lounge suits. Is it a cocktail dress?? Should I have got something shorter?

And can anyone find me a nice wrap/something to chuck over it?

Ahh, I'm keeping the long one. An etiquette guide I've just read said cocktail dresses can be long or short.

I think the problem with the Jacques Vert one is all that pleating - isn't it very voluminous?

The second one looks short, tight and low which doesn't sound like a great combination for a wedding.

But then I'm over 50 so what do I know? Grin

I'd normally have avoided pleats thinking it wouldn't help as I've got a bit of a tummy but its surprisingly flattering.

Think you're right aout the blue dress Floeisme.

I still think long dresses look out of place at a 'normal' cocktail party but for a post-wedding do will be fine. Sorry, didn't read your OP carefully enough.

Would keep accessories quite simple and unblingy, though, so it doesn't look too 'regal'.

Think I'll just wear earrings with it. Have a shawl/pashmina type thing and a nice up do hairstyle.

I think you can avoid that Jacques Vert look if the accessories are really modern e.g. I gather a large, single earring is the new statement necklace, kind of thing.
