Do you wear one? Do you think it looks a bit contrived?

I love summer scarves, I never dreamed they could be thought of as looking contrived!

The point for me is they give a bit of extra coverage/warmth when there's a sea breeze. Or if the sun is in and out and I don't want to wear a cardigan and keep taking it off and putting it back on again.

Any l

That's supposed to be any links to any nice ones? I have been looking but not quite found anything.

Hakluyt · 02/08/2014 09:55

I have loads of summer scarves. I am deluded enough to think a scarf down the front makes me look a bit slimmer. And I like to have something to drape over my head if I'm out in the sun too long. And I like wearing something bright or interesting patterned. And they make good emergency dog leads, towels, shopping bags, picnic rugs...........

Hakluyt · 02/08/2014 09:56

Sainsbury's have some lovely ones at the moment. Are you allowed to say that on S&B?

ZaraW · 02/08/2014 09:57

I've got red hair and therefore allergic to the sun, it stops me going red and protects my skin. I always have one in my bag if overseas for the extra protection.

Greengardenpixie · 02/08/2014 09:58

I see what you are saying about the sea. That isnt contrived and sounds useful. What about everyday wear though?

Greengardenpixie · 02/08/2014 10:02

All totally valid ideas. I have a few and dont know when to wear them! I jusr cant get by my dh saying its hot why are you wearing a scarf?Angry

I live near the sea it is my every day wear. Grin

This is a nice example, it makes a plain dress look completely different.

Or if you are more casual and you have a plain T-shirt and cropped trousers on for example it can look great.

Walnut8 · 02/08/2014 11:34

I can make you look a bit more polished (good example thornrose) ... however I have NEVER seen anyone wear one to the beach! Might you, I think the sea is a little cooler in the Uk than wear I live.

Walnut8 · 02/08/2014 11:34

"It can" not "I can"!

thornrose · 02/08/2014 11:40

Walnut I walk along the seafront to get to town and even on a hot day it can be breezy. I'm not wearing a bikini and a scarf to the beach if that makes sense!

Greengardenpixie · 02/08/2014 11:43

ha ha ha ....a bikini and a scarfConfused cant imagine a scarf looking more ridiculouscontrived

OP posts:
Walnut8 · 02/08/2014 11:44

Oh okay thornrose ... you had me worried! Grin

Gosh and that's "where" not "wear" ....

AlleyCat11 · 02/08/2014 11:46

I wear scarves all year round. Silk or cotton for summer.
A man once approached me in a boutique, when I was younger, and tugged on my scarf - "It's not winter y'know". Prat.
He was following his wife around the shop yaying & naying her clothing choices...

Greengardenpixie · 02/08/2014 11:51

He sounded like a real ass!! That would have annoyed me intensely!

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 02/08/2014 14:11

To hide a turkey neck or a fat tummy?

dexter73 · 02/08/2014 15:08

I thinks scarves when it is hot look a bit daft. Mind you I am not really a scarf person. I wear one in the winter but only when I am out. I take it off when I come inside as it is annoying to have it flapping around.

Greengardenpixie · 02/08/2014 15:30

dexter..you are a bit like me. I have kids and it flaps around me and gets in the way!! In that photo, it doesnt look out of place and rather stylish. What is the best way to wear it so it doesnt annoy you??

OP posts:
thornrose · 02/08/2014 15:40

Is this too flappy? determined to convert OP

BalloonSlayer · 02/08/2014 15:48

I've never "got" scarves. Old ladies and middle aged ladies wear them.

I am middle aged and not deluded enough to think I look younger for not wearing scarves, but, blimey, if I was going to wear a scarf I think I might as well have a blue rinse put in my hair.

TwoInTheMourning · 02/08/2014 15:58

I wear them when the top I'm wearing is low neck as my décolletage burns easily. It's not that easy to find summery light boatneck t-shirts....

Greengardenpixie · 02/08/2014 16:17

That looks ok..but quite a lot of material iykwim. I might be a little warm in it!!

OP posts:
Greengardenpixie · 02/08/2014 16:18

thornrose, i like the way she has worn it in the first picture you posted. What has she done with it? Its nice and understated...and more importantly bunched around her neck but slung lower.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/08/2014 16:18

I lie scarves and wear them a lot of time, but not in summer. All those pictures of women in shorts and t-shirt, plus a scarf, look v odd to me.
