So whats the point in a summer scarf?

Do you wear one? Do you think it looks a bit contrived?

I feel chilly round my neck and chest quite easily, and a scarf stops the breeziness without overheating everything else.

specialsubject · 02/08/2014 17:13

to keep the sun off, or to keep neck warm.

can't bear to wear scarves of any sort, they annoy me with their fussy flapping. And I'm afraid they never made anyone look thinner.

And I'm afraid they never made anyone look thinner.

You are right, they have the opposite effect as they add bulk to you.

I love cotton scarves but tend to wear them in spring - not when the weather is warm like now. Or if we are heaving a particularly rubbish summer!

Greengardenpixie · 02/08/2014 21:27

I will also wear them in Autumn and Spring and of course winter :)

I love a summer scarf, but not if it's really hot (if it's warm enough for shorts I wouldn't be wearing a scarf). It's decorative, really, can finish off an outfit.

I have dozens of scarves and wish I knew how to tie them in stylish ways, instead of always relying on the Fulham knot!

Eve · 04/08/2014 12:26

Greengardenpixie · 04/08/2014 12:28

I think the look in the pic would be very hard to pull off in RL without looking contrived/bulky.

MostWicked · 04/08/2014 12:57

I love little strappy tops, but I burn ridiculously easily, so a lightweight scarf gives me a little extra protection from the sun. I also use them to provide a little extra warmth from a cool summer breeze.
I tend to wear them more in a shawl/wrap style than tied round my neck though.

I love a summer scarf, to wear as a shawl over my shoulders if I get chilly. Looks more glam than a cardi !

JohnCusacksWife · 05/08/2014 16:58

I wear scarves all year round including with shorts and vets tops. Never occurred to me I look "contrived"! I'm quite well endowed and wearing just a vest top or t shirt on its own makes me feel to "out there". A lightweight scarf provides a bit of camouflage!

I see scarves have many practical uses, but I'm afraid I find the whole look contrived too. Seems frumpy to me, even in the pictures on this thread.

WitchWay · 05/08/2014 17:56

I like scarves & shawls & wear them a lot, but not much in the summer. I treat them rather like jewellery!

Orangeanddemons · 05/08/2014 18:08

I've tried so hard with scarves. So hard....

They make my boobs look huge, and just look crap on me. The make me look really broad across the shoulders. I think they spoil a sleek silhouette, and I think they look daft when it's hot. I also get hot in them....
