Help me update my gym clothes

I am in dire need of an update in the gym clothes department as I'm making an attempt to get fitter. What's everyone wearing these days? I'll be mainly walking (would love to be able to say running!), doing a few classes (pilates & yoga) and going to the gym.

I get mine mainly from sports direct. I like fitted cropped capris, and longer length vests, usually end up in nike
Occasionally I buy quirky slogan vests from ruffles with love

I tend to wear running capris (Ronhill are my favourite): they fit well and work across all disciplines. Tops wise I wear a Sweaty Betty bra (flat chested, so no need for much support), then usually a racer back vest, either Sweaty Betty or Lululemon. SB always bought in the sale or eBay, Lululemon bought when in the US. Wiggle is a good spot to find decent kit. I don't do any yoga, but I suspect you'll want some kind of top to wear over everything for warm up and cool downs. Again SB and LLL are good to see what's there. My yogi friend also likes Manuka I think.

Don't buy anything cotton, only get stuff made from that moisture-wicking fabric.

I go to a fairly up-market gym (am not up-market myself, though Grin) and most women wear black 3/4 lycra capris and singlet tops with a matching or contrasting racer-back sports bra underneath. A hoody for over the top. Lots of brightly-coloured trainers, mostly Nike, with no-show socks.

I like adidas, personally - mostly because I can get it a bit cheaper online than Nike. Lululemon and Lorna Jane are also popular, but $$$ here in Aus.

bewleysisters · 01/08/2014 15:35

TK Maxx good for tops and bottoms from Manuka and Calmia.

sebsmummy1 · 01/08/2014 15:40

Koala describes what most trendy women wear in my gym too.

I have chunky legs so where 3/4 length tie trackie bottoms, they are surprisingly flattering. Then a fitted vest top on top. It doesn't matter what you look like in the gym really, however I do like to see a waist if I can see myself in the mirror. Makes me feel as though the hard work is worth it.

*wear

Gore are another good brand if you spot them in TK Maxx. The gym I go to is the same, vest tops & Capri/¾ length leggings apart from spinning where some women wear shorts.

dexter73 · 01/08/2014 16:39

I wear these leggings
Sports Bra
and a vest like this
Pretty much the same as everyone on this thread!

h and M lady
way better than anything else, sizing is erratic though. GREAT colours - not just dull pink or black

PittTheYounger · 01/08/2014 17:01

i like the patterned trousers from there - i get a comment almost every time admiring them/where are they from etc
I also like the baggy ish yoga style vests - look far more up to date than the normal tight ones like this www.hm.com/gb/product/21975?article=21975-C

Capitola · 01/08/2014 17:03

Like others have said, the gym uniform seems to be tight capris, longer line vests, bright sports bras and really bright trainers.

Also arrive in a fitted hoodie with holes for your thumbs. I have no idea about the purpose of said thumb hole, but I am a sheep so have three of these.

PittTheYounger · 01/08/2014 17:04

i dont like a showing sports bra meself

BirdhouseInYourSoul · 01/08/2014 17:14

Capitola - I have one of those hoodies too. Mine has an oversized hood too for some reason.

I have no idea what the thumb holes are for. I found this for 3.95 in the charity shop and it was nice and long so that's why I have it. Does make feel kind of yoof to wear it though Blush

maybemyrtle · 01/08/2014 17:32

Another stretchy capris and vest wearer here.

I keep seeing things advertised as "running tights" - are they just long leggings? Or are they a bit see-through and designed to be worn with shorts?

PittTheYounger · 01/08/2014 17:41

they are just leggings and are WAY nicer. kind of smoooth finish -great on spin bikes

PittTheYounger · 01/08/2014 17:41

no - def not with shorts!

PittTheYounger · 01/08/2014 17:42

Today I wore M&S :) same styles as everyone else though I prefer a short-sleeved tee to a vest. I always go for plain and dark so as to be inconspicuous.

notyummy · 01/08/2014 21:48

Another recommend for H and M sports wear. Good selection if nice looking stuff that doesn't break the bank. I would size down in general though as it's mostly fairly large.

Capitola · 01/08/2014 23:06

But does H&M wick?

I need major wicking.

MrsFlorrick · 01/08/2014 23:17

Sweaty Betty has great stuff! I've bought stuff from them I've had for many years. It really is fab quality.

Think their sale is still on.

PittTheYounger · 02/08/2014 07:32

Yes it wicks. And you can bin when you get bored of it it's so cheap
