Help me update my gym clothes

I am in dire need of an update in the gym clothes department as I'm making an attempt to get fitter. What's everyone wearing these days? I'll be mainly walking (would love to be able to say running!), doing a few classes (pilates & yoga) and going to the gym.

Ooh I really like the look of some of the H&M stuff, love the patterned trousers. Thanks for the heads up, will check them out next time I need some new kit.

monsterowl · 02/08/2014 15:25

Another vote for h&m, and yes their clothes do wick like the pricier stuff. If you need trainers, sweatshop have some half price at the mo (go to their site and register as a member, think this offer is members only). They do free gait analysis in their shops if you'll be running.

Main thing though: wear what's comfy and dont worry about what other people might be thinking of you!

Plus nice colours.

trixymalixy · 02/08/2014 17:45

running tights usually have a zipped pocket and sometimes have mesh panels or insulated fronts for running in winter.

I'm a 3/4 Capri legging wearer too. Plus vest and pink hooded top. Must get a bright sports bra Wink

I like soactive. I have had a couple of fantastic Stella McCartney for Adidas bargains from there.

Safmellow · 02/08/2014 20:58

I wear black 3/4 leggings, does anyone wear proper compression pants and are they worth paying extra for?

dexter73 · 02/08/2014 21:05

I don't wear compression gear as I don't think I exercise at a level to require it.

KristinaM · 03/08/2014 09:52

I don't wear compression gear to exercise but I wear compression socks for recovering after long runs ( 20km +) . I'm not sure why you would need it for general gym wear

I have long run tights but only use them for the very coldest weather, otherwise I used shorts or capris . Like everyone else on this thread < sheep>

OP -if you are going out running, you need a proper supportive sports bra ( unless you have tiny norks ) and running shoes fitted by a shop that does gait analysis. This is WAY more important than having the most stylish gear . Sorry to be boring, but if you wear the wrong running shoes you will get injured

dexter73 · 03/08/2014 10:05

I'm not convinced by gait analysis. I have read several articles ( one example )that suggest it is nothing more than a marketing gimmick.

monsterowl · 03/08/2014 10:11

Dexter I actually agree with you, I did a bit of research into it after having it done as it seemed a very high tech way of looking at something you could do without computers! Suspect it will be one of those things we look back on and laugh about in 20 years.

KristinaM · 03/08/2014 17:33

Thanks for that link -v interesting

Igggi · 03/08/2014 17:39

Things that don't require ironing. If I have to find time to iron too I'd never exercise.
Same with 3/4 length trousers - in the winter there is rare deforestation in the leg department, I'd rather wear full-length!

PittTheYounger · 03/08/2014 17:56

Ironing? Polyester?

PittTheYounger · 03/08/2014 17:56

It takes minutes to shave your legs? Slattern !

Igggi · 03/08/2014 20:51

Those are precious mumsnetting-minutes you know!

KoalaDownUnder · 04/08/2014 02:29

Igggi, every item of gym clothing I've ever seen is made of un-ironable material! How/why would you iron it?!

Igggi · 04/08/2014 10:03

I have jogging bottoms and t-shirts that are cotton. The gym police have not yet thrown me out of the gym for being wrongly dressed! Maybe because I attend a council one and not a health club type Wink

PittTheYounger · 04/08/2014 10:07

unless you don't sweat you need wicking ones that dont absorb it

Igggi · 04/08/2014 10:42

Yes they are a lot better but - did no one exercise before such clothes were invented?

dexter73 · 04/08/2014 10:46

Of course they did! But as fabrics have improved people have taken to wearing them. You don't see soldiers in wool suits anymore either!

notyummy · 04/08/2014 13:06

Can't imagine running in jogging bottoms, despite the name. They are horrendously thick and heavy. I do have a couple of old cotton t shirts (generally from 10ka/half marathons of the past) that I wear sometimes and they aren't too bad. Don't hold their shape of course so they look pretty rough quite quickly as they need to be washed so frequently.

KoalaDownUnder · 04/08/2014 15:54

But...even if you were wearing 100% cotton, surely you wouldn't iron it just to crease & sweat it up at the gym??

(Mind boggled because I'm a lazy bastard who irons nothing if she can help it.)

PittTheYounger · 04/08/2014 16:06

agree cotton must be SO hot.
OP - have you got anything new?

notyummy · 04/08/2014 16:08

Oh yes would never iron said cotton gym kit.

PittTheYounger · 04/08/2014 16:16

its HOT here? they re in fecking fleeces!
