Is there a tanning cream/mousse that won't render me dayglow orange?

On holiday next month and will have to have my bluish white legs out! I don't sunbathe because I have very fair skin that burns very easily, but I'd like yo at least look healthy!

Last time I tried a self tanning cream was in the 80s..(remember duotan anyone?!) applied at lunch time in the loos with my mates and we were all bright orange by home time! I'm hoping for something subtle and eay to apply...

I have very pale/bordering on blue skin. I like Cocoa Brown tan. You can put it on for an hour and then rinse off and it is a very pale tan. I like to leave it for longer personally, but if you are wary it's a nice safe one to try.

My latest foray into tanning is Cocoa Brown. It's really good. The mousse stuff. Seems to me you can't go wrong with it. Easy peasy. On, wait a couple of hours, rinse off, perfect tan. I've never had streaks, patchy bits, nothing except this lovely golden natural looking tan. And it's not too smelly. I hate fake tans because of the awful smell. Cocoa brown? Not so smelly, compared to others. If you ask me Cocoa Brown is as good as it gets.

Is it this?

I've been trying an everyday gradual lotion - dove? garnier? - but it's made me orange. I don't have time for salon tan and I only want to do my legs. Is it really that easy? Do you wax or shave first then tan, or tan then shave / wax?

I am now trying a sample of the Elemis one as recommended by India Knight in the Sunday Times ( why are her recommendations always REALLY expensive? )

Any of the gradual tans will work if applied correctly...

Wax/shave before.. But not immediately before! Hair removal after tan will take the tan off again.

I use decleor gradual and it never streaks or smudges and is very natural

So shave legs day before, exfoliate, moisturize, tan. Will need to look up buffing. And learn how to even up legs where I've been wearing crops

Sally Hansen Airbrush legs is great. I got it after a reccomendation on here. Its make up rather than tan but its bloody fantastic. Lovely natural colour, quick to apply and as you can see it going on, no streaks.

I've been using it everyday on my arms to cover up the slight tan line I've had for years.

To buff, you can buy a buffing mitt or take a towling sports sock and put on hand - buff all over body et voila! You've learnt to buff!

ah thanks.. I did wonder what buffing was! (Had visions of attacking my body with DH's orbital sander )

Vita liberate think its called. Comes with a mit....only one I've ever liked.

I'm also v pale and have found He-Shi a very nice brown colour, not orange at all. Tinted so you can see where it's going. Put on with a mitt thingy and buff well. Not very stinky either.

Only I've been wanting to try vita but it's v expensive. Is it worth the money?

To be honest I was given it at a sales conference I'm generally really sceptical about tanning products....Used it last week and it is amazing.... No mess....very gradual....I wasn't even uber careful a really quick application....just did my legs to start with. It's a really light weight mousse but you can see it on which helps.

I know it retails with the higher end products but I would pay the extra for it.

Is the Cocoa Brown mousse tinted so that you can actually see the colour as you apply it? I've heard great things about it but any product I use has to be tinted or I end up a streaky mess.

I've never heard of buffing your skin after fake tan application. What does it actually do?

I find most gradual tanners are orange on me.

St Tropez mousse is the only fake tan I like - it's actually bronze rather than orange/yellow.

Exfoliate/shave and moisturise at least an hour before you apply, especially on elbows, knees, feet and hands. Use a mitt or thin latex gloves to apply (I find the mitt gives a less obvious result, which is prob the way to go for you). Bingo. If you do under your arms, remember to wash off deodorant thoroughly first.

St tropez mousse is marvellous. I've tried every brand and I'm pale skinned. I currently looked bronzed but not orange and don't smell weird.

M&s moisturising self tan, best one I have used, even fooled beautician when I went for pre holiday pedicure. I only bought to try as it was/is £2.50 (3week ago).
