I need a dress for my sons graduation. Any ideas?

I have never attended a graduation.

I need a dress for 9.00am ceremony and then lunch with ds and hs best friends from uni and their parents.

I want something knee length and ok for whatever weather gets thrown at us in mid July
I like this because it's easy but I fear twenty squillion lk Bennett dresses poncing around town that morning

Size 10/12. No boobs. Arms are good but knee length is vital.

Has anyone seen anything gorgeous?
I'm so proud of my son and I want him to be proud of me ( in ways other than my generally being awesome Grin)

this is too 'evening' isn't it?

X poster - thanks!

Those are gorgeous colours and I love the last one. I have to confess to a big arse though and need to avoid anything clinging around my bum/hips

The ll Bennett one is ok because it's a very structured fabric and lined. The first two look too clingy.
Love the last one - hmm

I work at a university and see lots of parents in graduation outfits. You are right that there will be eleventy squillion LK Bennett outfits to be seen on that day!
I think the LKB you've linked to is too structured and worky-looking for a graduation outfit. The Temperley is a better shape but that embellishment (on black) is very evening-y. How about something like this - I don't like the print but the shape is nice and appropriate.

I can't link to what I'm wearing to DDs graduation but it is very similar to this Hobbs.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 29/06/2014 19:13

botanical print dress

Theas18 · 29/06/2014 19:20

I've got this for dd graduation
www.whitestuff.com/womens/dresses/blue-fly-high-dress/

And red sandals/accessories

Clearly I'll look like a tramp amongst all the lk Bennett but dd knows it's a big thing for me to brave a frock at all ( generous 16) and I'll feel comfortable.

So what ever you get think if me and know you look better :(

littlewhitebag · 29/06/2014 19:21

I was at DD's graduation on Thursday and wore this with a white jacket.

Temperley one all wrong, I think and LKB one too worky.

You're a Westwood fan, aren't you? Couldn't you wear one of your existing ones?

Ooh normally can't stand Phase 8 but I like that bird one.

ExcuseTypos · 29/06/2014 19:46

Just a word of warning. When dd graduated last year in July, it was 29 degrees. On the day I ended up wearing a sleeveless dress I already had, otherwise I would have baked, despite having spent a fortune on a lovely dress with long sleeves.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/06/2014 19:46

Can you do yellow?

KarlWrenbury · 29/06/2014 19:46

i KNOW!

KarlWrenbury · 29/06/2014 19:46

do you have to wear a dress?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/06/2014 19:52

I like this but prob not summery enough and prob too short

Too shiny?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/06/2014 19:53

Love this and it's a bit different
