Jeans and cords that are NOT hipsters, please!

Spent all of yesterday afternoon in a major shopping centre trying on tons of jeans and cords in a vain attempt to find some that actually fit a size 10 - sometimes 12 - 35-year-old woman who's had two kids.

No joy.

Everything on offer was hipster.

Sorry, but I just can't do hipsters. I think they look like shit on 90%+ of hte female population.

Anyone know ANY shop or brand that makes jeans or cords for women that are NOT hipsters before I hit the mens' departments?

white stuff have some in

SSSandy · 04/09/2006 11:46

I used to hate them but now I've figured out that they're really comfortable since they don't dig into your waist/tummy folds when you sit down. Slowly I've come round to the idea. You could wear them in winter, couldn't you though? You'd be wearing something long over the top so it wouldn't make any difference how far up they stop? Dept stores should have non hipsters.

expatinscotland · 04/09/2006 11:50

I don't find them comfortable at all, SS. Sorry, I've tried them. I think they just look like crap on anyone but the tall and slim, tbh.

There's a White Stuff in a shopping centre nearby.

Think I'll try mens' sections as well.

I went into several department stores and found nothing but hipsters.

I don't have tummy folds and have a curvy, hourglass figure.

you little vamp! Good luck finding what you want. I HATE shopping these days

expatinscotland · 04/09/2006 11:57

It's pretty sad when men's fit better. They're usually cheaper, too.

wouldn't men's jeans stick out at the waist though?

expatinscotland · 04/09/2006 11:59

Not so much, oddly enough.

I was trying to avoid ordering them from the States, as my folks won't be back across till next month, but I think I'm going to have to go this route, too.

Just not a hipster person and there is no other choice out there.

Even the 'boyfriend' jeans I saw were bloody hipsters.

not very trendy but marks and spencer do 'on the waist' jeans.

SSSandy · 04/09/2006 12:02

THey always made me cringe but this summer I tried on a couple out of pure desperation (nothing else in the shops) and thought : oh wow, they're COMFORTABLE! Haven't got hipster jeans/trousers yet though just bought a couple of cotton skirts that start a bit lower than the waist.

milward · 04/09/2006 12:02

I have this problem - try landsend web site & boden.

expatinscotland · 04/09/2006 12:02

If 'trendy' means hipsters, then I'm well too old for trends.

Might have a look in M&S then, don't give a monkey's if that makes me 'middle aged'.

can't do links but here it is

www.landsend.co.uk/

alexsmum · 04/09/2006 12:12

i got mine there expat and they are ok.

alison222 · 04/09/2006 12:36

got some in next too before the summer if that is any help.
I too hate hipster jeans - they feel like they are falling down.

MrsFio · 04/09/2006 12:37

I know it is hardly a 'hip' shop but Mackays (or M&Co) have some lovely cords and jeans in at the moment

trice · 04/09/2006 12:49

I resorted to the mens jeans when I got my holiday photos back and saw all the pics of me bending down to the children. I had a builders bum on about four of the photos !

MrsFio · 04/09/2006 12:51

here

expatinscotland · 04/09/2006 12:53

Exactly, trice! I sit down in any and all jeans or trousers I try on. Hipsters just don't stand up to the job, no pun intended.

It was a chilly morning here, and on my walk in I saw plenty of goose-bumped flesh crammed into hipsters.

Got some nice cords in next that cover everything and arfe really comforatble. Look on their website.

sheepgomeep · 04/09/2006 16:56

I hate hate hate hipsters too, < whispers muffin belly and runs>

Dare I mention Next? Or is Next a complete no on mumsnet. Buy all my jeans from there now and not a hipster jean in site in my wardrobe.

My brown cords were from Next too

I always get mens combats, all the womens are sodding hipster styles.

sheepgomeep · 04/09/2006 16:57

ooo snap sophie!! were they brown??

colditz · 04/09/2006 17:04

Peacocks. Try some on, I found a pair of army type trousers thart are high waisted,.

I too hate hipsters, I am short and fat with a proportionately small arse, so high waist if fine by me. It stops me looking like a little fat man.

colditz · 04/09/2006 17:04

Combats, that'#s the word!

divamummy · 04/09/2006 19:27

next does high waist
