Best facial sun screen for under make up?

u32ng · 02/06/2014 14:40

Maybe I'm hoping for too much but I care about protecting my face in the sun & want to get a sun cream I can wear under my makeup (or alone also).

Don't want it to make me look shiny-faced in ANY way! Just want my normal face, but with sun protection!

Also ideally, non-pore clogging, non-whitening, and won't make my make up 'furr' up when I put it on underneath.

Does anyone know a good one?

I use Bioderma Photoderm Factor 50. Very light, moisturising but not at all greasy. No white cast, disappears completely. No little white balls rubbing off your face either!

I buy it online, it's about 14 for 40 ml which lasts me about 3 months.

Mmmm...the best solution I've come to is to use powder mineral foundation like bare escentuals or Ella Pierre which have SPF 15....or most foundations (e.g. Chanel vitalumiere) are also SPF 15.

Not sure whether that's a very satisfactory solution or if that's enough sun protection for you though.

CluelessCrapParent · 02/06/2014 14:48

Actually the la Roche posay tinted face cream SPF is very good for sun protection, but it is quite dark though, even for me and I have medium Asian skin, so the colour is a little hit and miss.

How about bb cream or cc cream or tinted moisturisers.

Lottapianos · 02/06/2014 14:50

You can get an untinted version of La Roche Posay Anthelios factor 50 which has had rave reviews on here before.

I think you need to aim for at least factor 30 in the summer

CluelessCrapParent · 02/06/2014 14:55

Gosh, I live in tropical Malaysia and don't wear SPF everyday....and rely on my sun hat instead someday.....maybe I'm not taking sun protection seriously enough.

I've just ordered the La Roche Posay spf 50 gel cream one after a friend recommended it, but haven't actually tried it yet...

goodasitgets · 02/06/2014 15:55

I've heard neutrogena dry touch is very good

daisydaisys · 02/06/2014 16:43

Also I'd second other people's suggestions about La Roche-Posay, I've never tried them myself but I've only ever heard good things, and they're a generally pretty reliable skincare brand...

QuinnFabray · 02/06/2014 16:45

I love the MAC SPF 50 prep and prime primer. It's a really good make up base and it's the only thing I've used for years.

Lots of ordinary moisturisers have SPF. Try estee day wear, that's what I use and it works well under makeup, Olay do some cheaper ones too.

CottonbudCatastrophe · 02/06/2014 16:59

I've just ordered some Eucerin Mattifying factor 50, will let you know if it's any good!

Housewife2010 · 02/06/2014 17:01

I've just discovered Cane and Austin SPF 50 from Space NK. It's very thin, absorbs quickly and you can't feel it when it's on. Make-up is fine over it. There's no scent either. I'd definitely recommend it.

u32ng · 02/06/2014 21:15

Ooh fab, lots of suggestions, thanks! Going to boots tomorrow so I'll check out some there, like the Roche Posay. I used to have one of their moisturisers years ago and forgot that I did really like it so that might be a good place to start.

Away to read your blog link daisydaisys...

Seconding the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer range. I can't recommend this stuff highly enough.

Donteatthekidssweets · 03/06/2014 07:43

Just gone back to Clinique city block. Great with a bit of bare minerals powder or my Chanel vitalumiere. I've found that others are too thick or have given me a funny colour (I'm quite pale fair skinned)

FoxyHarlow123 · 03/06/2014 08:14

La RP is quite thick and sticky. Clinique city block is good but the new Soap n Glory 50+ spf one is even better.

springbabydays · 03/06/2014 08:16

I love clinique city block, it feels nice, is sheer, and I can wear it with or without makeup. I use it every day, all through winter too.

alemci · 03/06/2014 08:27

I have been putting on the NO7 facial suncare SPF30 over moisturiser. it seems quite light. It isn't going to tint my skin etc.

I also wore clinique cc cream yesterday spf30 light. Absolutely gorgeous on my skin but I don't think it is adequate as a sunscreen.

I think clinique city block is good.

FuckyNell · 03/06/2014 08:34

I like dr perricone no foundation foundation SPF 30 also ultrasun once a day facial sun cream sp30

u32ng · 03/06/2014 22:01

Well I went with LRP in the end. It was that or the Avene and the LRP was on a deal in boots so that swung it for me! Will see how I get on in the next while and report back!

If it's cack I'll look into the others!

Shiseido Expert Sun Ageing Protection Lotion is fantastic under makeup if you don't get along with La Roche Posay.

MyrtleDove · 04/06/2014 22:18

My BB cream is spf 45 - is this OK on its own without a separate sunblock underneath? I am fair skinned but staying in the UK.

1gglePiggle · 04/06/2014 22:45

Alpha h spf50 is really good. Non sticky, absorbs almost to powder like finish. Wore it out in strong sun and face was so pale at the end of the day, unlike the rest of my bod!

MyLatest · 04/06/2014 23:29

The La Roche Anthelios factor 50 one is brilliant. I got it on offer in Boots for a tenner. Very light and absorbed into skin instantly with no grease.
