I had my hair cut today...

And it's boring :(
It was a chin length bob, no fringe. I', growing out colour so thought a bit of a fringe might help hide the roots a bit, but it just looks so bland middle aged-mum ish (I am a middle aged mum but I think it makes me look older!)

I had contemplated going short..then chickened out. It would make growing out the colour easier I know.

I can't face going back to the same hairdresser..I know it't daft but I feel embarrassed. So... do I suck it up for a few months and wait, or shall I walk into supercuts tomorrow with a pic of my old short hair from years ago and go for it?!?!

Do you like your shorter hair cut in the photo?

If so, go for it!

BellaVita · 30/05/2014 22:10

We need pics please

KoalaFace · 30/05/2014 22:10

Oh yes I take back my comment.

I have no opinion until I see pics!

MedusaIsHavingaBadHairday · 30/05/2014 22:15

Today.. boring bob
Old pic (wine glass!) Tho today I do have a stupid bit of fringe to deal with too.
I'd LIKE to be brave and go shorter still... but not sure.

I was in the same position a few weeks ago.

I had long hair, wanted to go short but was talked out of it by DH. I decided on a bob like Victoria Beckham had a few years back, but I came out with a chin length mum bob, with fringe. I was gutted.

I stuck it out for 5 weeks and have now had the crop last week. I am much happier and it is much easier to do. I went back to the same hairdresser, she was fine, but I have been going to her for years.

BellaVita · 30/05/2014 22:17

Have you got a pic of the shorter style you fancy having instead?

Can you train your fringe to start sweeping to the side?

BellaVita · 30/05/2014 22:18

Your hair now looks nice btw.

libertytrainers · 30/05/2014 22:20

it's not that bad! in a couple of weeks you will be used to it and a fringe in nice in the summer as you can tie you hair back and still have something around the front.

Pollywallywinkles · 30/05/2014 22:23

I went from long to a bob which was a similar length to yours and the next time went even shorter. I've not regretted it.

Stick with yours until it next needs a cut and if you are still not happy, go for something different.

Milmingebag · 30/05/2014 22:32

That is a boring bob, fair do. The golden colour isn't doing your skintone any favours either. There is way too much hair around your face detracting from your nice features.

I suggest you pixie it (with a longish side swept fringe) and add some volume with pieces around the crown.

Dye wise I suggest you colour it a lovely light cool ash brown (5.1).

LadyWithLapdog · 30/05/2014 22:36

Nice cut but, yes, I'd go a bit shorter or more structured. Plus :) and Wine

SunshineOutdoors · 30/05/2014 23:01

Tbf I don't think you can really compare those pics as one is taken when you're feeling a bit unconfident about your hair and in the other pic you're obviously dead happy (and a little wine flushed?) so obv you'll look better in the second photo. I have no answer about your hair though, sorry, I swing between bob and growing it out regularly so feel your pain I don't know how you're meant to know what suits you

KoalaFace · 30/05/2014 23:15

I think a little bit more taken off especially around your face (since you have a lovely face you can show it off!) and more texture would make it more youthful I think.

mysteryfairy · 30/05/2014 23:22

I think the current cut is less mumsy than the old cut. Could you angle the bob a bit more maybe?

KoalaFace · 30/05/2014 23:29

Texture like this makes for a less mumsy look I think.

KoalaFace · 30/05/2014 23:29

Duh!

MedusaIsHavingaBadHairday · 30/05/2014 23:39

Thanks for the suggestions.. yes maybe making it choppy would work. or off.. I think I will go tomorrow as I am just not happy. I think I should be braver and go for bald!

Centre part with a blunter heavier fringe would edge bit up a bit.

MargotLovedTom · 30/05/2014 23:56

You either need it choppy or straightened so it's sleeker and sharper. The fringe is too wispy as well.

I agree it's like comparing apples and oranges as you look very happy in the old photo, and non smiling and almost worried looking in the new one.

WildBill · 31/05/2014 08:33

I think what you have now might look better if you messified it, try drying it scrunching/tousling and don't brush through after.

MedusaIsHavingaBadHairday · 31/05/2014 10:47

Well I walked into a cuttingbar this morning..and it's now much shorter, choppy bob if left loose and tucks begin my ears nicely so I am much happier. Now to grow that bloody fringe back....

Doinmummy · 31/05/2014 10:51
