WildBill · 26/05/2014 16:00

Mine were;

Max Factor roll on clear lip gloss in the glass bottle
Rimmel azure blue pearly nail polish
Number 17 orange blossom cleanser (heavenly smell)
Rimmel block mascara (The bees knees - spit and go)
Rimmel frosty blue liquid eye shadow.

I've bought 100s of items over the years but always remember the thrill of these first few purchases........feeling nostalgic today Smile

Constance Carol make up - rollerball lip gloss with a mint flavour!

LoveVintage · 26/05/2014 17:29

A lilac cream eyeshadow in a push up case like a lipstick. Possibly Rimmel.

Rollerball lipgloss - flavoured and so, so sticky!

Crutchlow35 · 26/05/2014 18:38

Beauty without cruelty foundation and the same lipgloss as you OP.

maybemyrtle · 26/05/2014 18:44

Rimmel Earth Star lipstick
Various Cosmetics-to-go (anyone remember them???) bits inc High Brow eyebrow powder and a red lipcream in a pot. The lipcream resurfaced recently in dad's loft!

ThisBitchIsResting · 26/05/2014 18:47

Heather shimmer lipstick, lip balms from the Body Shop, White Musk perfume, Rimmel pressed translucent powder I wore for years.

I wish someone had shown me how to use liquid foundation, I had crap skin. And some roaccutane wouldn't have gone amiss. And some lessons in cleansing and moisturising that didn't involve Clearasil and Mudd masks and no moisturiser, followed by powder

WildBill · 26/05/2014 19:31

oh yes Mudd masks - 5 minutes to put on 3 hours to get off.

LoadsaBlusher · 26/05/2014 22:37

Rimmel Heather Shimmer lipstick in the brown packaging
Boots 17 Shimmer eyeshadow
Miners Body Glitter
I was shimmering and glittery for most of the early 90's... awful!

francesthebadger · 26/05/2014 22:59

Another one for Max Factor glass bottle roller ball gloss (minty flavour?) - yes v sticky, but I felt sooo sophisticated. Plus lots of Rimmel Hide the Blemish and, again, their lipstick in heather mist.

squoosh · 26/05/2014 23:16

Body Shop face base and Body Shop kiwi lip balm.

squoosh · 26/05/2014 23:17

I also loved Cover Girl cosmetics, haven't seen that line on sale in Europe sine the 90's.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 27/05/2014 00:11

Panstick and cake mascara that you spat on and applied with a sort of mini toothbrush! Grin

ThePerfectNegroni · 27/05/2014 06:41

My mum gave me at tube of mac studio fix foundation which she's bought me in London (it was about 1995) and a spice lip liner. Mid 90s fashion ahoy! The first thing I bought myself was on orangey lipstick in the body shop, from the era when you always had to go to the body shop every time you went into town.

KoalaFace · 27/05/2014 07:20

Collection 2000 clear mascara and clear lipgloss.

My parents were very strict!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/05/2014 07:32

A red Rimmel nail varnish, rollerball lipgloss, Rimmel frosty blue eyeshadow. Rimmel was the only brand in our local chemist IIRC.

Also used to borrow my mum's nail varnish in beautiful swirly bottles, Yardley I think it was.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/05/2014 07:34

Oh and I do remember Cosmetics to Go but I was in my 20s by then, am still a big Lush fan.

Also remember my first Body Shop item, some shampoo given by my mum's friend who visited the first shop when it opened.

Deathraystare · 27/05/2014 07:42

WildBill I was thinking about this two days ago for some reason! Oh I know why, the cheapo 'everythng shop' in our village had some roll on lip glossers.

Cannot remember exactly what I first bought but MAx Factor mint roll on gloss featured as did Rimmel mascara - a roll on applicator. It cost 5p then went up to 25p (expensive! That was my pocket money!!!). I got it in grey or grape.

"Borrowed" mum's 'Angel Face by Pears' blue cake mascara. I borrowed her Evette (Woolworths) mascara too. I mainly used MIners or Outdoor Girl as they had interesting colours. I got an eyeshadow range from Miners in the 'posh' range' bright pink, blue, acid yellow and green. I wore the yellow and green. I was hoping to offend my mum with the strong colours, but the heartless woman told me I had put the two colours together really well. I loved Miners Purple haze lippie and an Outdoor girl one called Ripe Ackee which was actually in their short lived black make up range although I am fair skinned.

Outdoor Gilr brought out a tinted gel - I had it in honey. It was the absolute best thing. It did not look dirty or orange. It gave a suggestion of colour and looked really good.Oh and their Blusher in rambling rose.

I only bought roll on lip gloss and occasional mascara from Max Factor (pricey!) and bought mascara only from Revlon, although later on went mad on the nail varnish.

I saved up for yonks for Mary Quant make up as I loved the deep pinks, mauves and reds but my favouite was Choosey Cherry lippie and chic cherry nails, a sort of brown/black/purple colour. I then got obsessed with a totally other colour called satin slicker which was goldie with a bit of pink. I liked MQ foundation and loved loved loved her blushers too. I got a mascara in green too.

I loved Max Factor Satin Cleanser and Anne Franch cleasing milk or Lemon Delph.

I used to get Miners all weather mascara too and Boots 17 eye make up remover. I remember Miners brought out a honey flavoured range of lippies. I had one and a lip gloss.

I got a Rimmel eye pencil is Azure - which went under the eye only (for some reason).

I also saved up for an eye pencil fro a company called Princess Galitzine (A Russian living in America, I seem to remember). The make up was along the lines of Charles of the Ritz (remember that??) and I guess YSL. They had the most amazing collection of eye pencils but I could only afford one. I got a green shot with gold. I got a Charles of the Ritz eye shadow duo too that I think was the first 'mozaic' looking one.

I also loved Helana Rubinstein fondation and mascara and a lovely cherry lipstick. Sad you can only buy it in Europe now (well, not in UK or USA anyway).

I used to save up for Dior lipstick too! Always a red.

Although I did not have major acne, I used to exterminate my few spots with Innoxa 41 Solution lotion and Anne French Glow 5 mask.

WanderingTrolley1 · 27/05/2014 07:47

Rimmel Heather shimmer lipstick was all I wore at first, at about 15.

Deathraystare · 27/05/2014 07:48

Mum's make up was mainly shit - Evette bright orange flame lipstick and a bright blue cream eye shadow - mut have looked awful together!!! So disgusted was I I didn't nick them.

SHe had some nice nail varnish called red cracknall which was basically a pearlised red. I loved it! I once used her Revlon foundation and went out with it on. I knew nothing of blending.....

For years I used Rimmel stick foundation which just caked on me.

I bet I looked a mess. I used the cover up stick from Rimmel too. I only used to have a couple of spots at a time but you know it felt worse than it looked so I probably put loads of slap on.

WildBill · 27/05/2014 19:57

Thanks ladies - love these posts - I'd forgotten about Lemon Delph, Innoxa 41, Evette and many others, I think I experimented with all the brands listed above.
I have an old 'Jackie'magazine with a double page Rimmel ad in - I still get excited looking at it now, all the eye pallettes, I could only afford a single eyeshadow stick back then with my pocket money........

Great thread idea! I think my first were a Miners nail polish (clear with glitter strands- what a fashionista lol!) collection 2000 clear mascara, a lime green eye shadow from no 7- back when Gerry Halliway was rocking the lime green lids look! Oh dear...

EasterSundaySimmons · 28/05/2014 02:09

Love this thread.

First nail varnish was a navy blue by mavala in approximately 1971.

Then Sugar Pink, a lipstick from Rimmel.

Also, a blue eyeshadow and a green eyeshadow in twist up lipstick style cases, possibly by rimmel.

In the late 1970s I bought lipsticks from Miners. Turquoise cases if I recall.

All bought from Woolworths!

I do remember a brand in Woolworths called Tu and I used to wear a very bright pink lipstick, circa early 1980s. The name Tu is now used by Sainsburys clothing range.

Gatekeeper · 28/05/2014 02:12

Deathraystare I had the Miners honey flavoured lipgloss as well. I remember wearing it for the xmas disco the year I started secondary school (1975....arghh)

First makeup I remember buying was Maybelline Kissing Potion roll on lipgloss in mint and Rimmel kohl pencil in a denim blue and a comb on mascara by max Factor. Slap was taken off with Anne French ( and still is aged 50) follwed by Clearasil and then weekly Glow-5 face masks.

EasterSundaySimmons · 28/05/2014 02:12

I had quite a few of these

Gatekeeper · 28/05/2014 02:15
