Ideas for evening footwear on holiday

Thinking about my holiday in a Portugal this summer and have ordered a couple of sundresses but not sure what to wear on my feet with them and to be honest it's my eternal holiday dilemma!

I do wear sparkly flip flops but actually prefer a heel, however in reality this means tottering over cobbles and uneven pavements in little Portuguese or Spanish villages - not quite the effect of effortless glamour I am looking for!

Lots of sandals look so clumpy, I want something dainty, elegant and practical!

What do you wear?

How about a flat sandal, but in a metallic gold or silver (p)leather? Neutral but a bit dressier and you could still wear them at home during the day. I love Ancient Greek Sandals but they are lots of £££. At the other end of the scale New Look do some pretty embellished thong style ones with ankle straps. Or is that what you meant by sparkly flip flops?

Or if you feel a heel makes it dressier, then what about a low wedge but in rafia, espadrille or wood to make them more summery?

Sorry, would like to look for examples to link to, but no time right now!

Yes sorry that's what I meant by sparkly flip flops, embellished and leather but the issue is them being flat. I can't see any low wedges that aren't clumpy looking!

I always take a heel on holidays abroad and NEVER end up wearing them. I'm a heel girl at home but flat gladiator type sandals all the way on holiday. I wear smart ones in a nice leather so they look good enough for evening.

If you desperately want a heel of some sort I would go with a very low 1-2" wedge.

I have just taken delivery of http://www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Shoes-Boots/Flats/AR623/Womens-Palma-Sandal?NavGroupID=11 These
I love them, and the rose gold goes with my watch Grin

They also have these http://www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Shoes-Boots/Wedges/AR628/Womens-T-Bar-Wedge-Sandal wedges

I used a 20% off and free delivery code.

I have these but they are flat so probably not what you want!

TigsytheTiger · 15/05/2014 20:30

I love them all, as flats but I am looking for a bit more height, so like them but with a 2" heel or wedge, if they exist?

I'm pretty sure everythingfivepounds.com have some lowish wedges in atm. Quite bright colours though iirc

SpringItOn · 15/05/2014 21:10

I have These. They are extremely comfortable, not too high but look great with dresses/maxi dresses or ankle skimmer skinnies.

They're the only heel I have ever taken and actually managed to wear on holiday.

What about these then, the silver is neutral, dressy and would look great with a tan and some bright nail polish:

I know what you mean about wanting to look nicer in the evenings, I think in reality the heat and the cobblestones win every time and I just want to be relaxed and enjoy the cheap(er) vino without worrying about breaking my ankle on the way home!

I've got some '70s style Clarks wedges ("Rusty Art" is the slightly bizarre name) that are about 2" high & very comfortable. I'm not sure they're dainty or elegant, though, & are only available in yellow or black on the Clarks website. There are different colours (cream & orange) on ebay.

Oops first ones

How about espadrilles?
