I seem to have very few clothes or any clothes that I want to wear anyway.

What do you reckon should be in the wardrobe of a thirty something SAHM? I want to look smart but casual and stylish but not too trendy. Any ideas?

Well your first stop has to be Primark

A few pairs of skinny jeans. They have some lovely slouch boots for £15 and some lovely tight knitted v neck jumpers in black and grey.

ocd · 29/08/2006 14:02

sorry they look like nature treks from the 70s

Cod - I misread your post at first, I thought you said buy a pair of good jeans every day! I thought bloody hell she must think I'm made of money.

Yes I bought a lovely grey v neck from primark the other day for £4 - also had them in a deep red. V nice. Grey is the colour for this winter.

Malory ~ mine from Primark last ages! I certainly wouldn't bin after couple of washes.

Gobbledigook · 29/08/2006 14:05

I agree with Malory and in the Autumn/winter wear a lot of v-neck fitted jumpers over a white vest. I've got a couple from Tesco that have washed and worn very well.

The key, I think, is to buy smart but casual classic pieces and accessorise well with bangles, belts and nice shoes and bags.

Blossomhill · 29/08/2006 14:05

I only buy fake suede not leather.

Gobbledigook · 29/08/2006 14:06

Also, rather than jeans you could wear a long denim skirt or short skirts with opaque tights and knee high boots. I've just ordered a short brown cord one and I got a short dark denim one from Gap that I'll be wearing with tights and boots as an alternative to jeans.

MrsBadger · 29/08/2006 14:06

oh, and before you go shopping do a serious sort-out of your current wardrobe - things that were once going-out clothes might be worn more if downgraded to everyday clothes, fish out all the stuff shoved at the back etc, send all things that won't fit ever again (in either direction), are worn out etc to charity shop.

then you'll know what you actually neeeeeed when you do go shopping.

nogoes · 29/08/2006 14:07

Good ideas everyone. I definitely think I need to do start accessorising more as I I think this is why I always feel such a scruffbag.
