Please get me dressed - I have nothing to wear! [sad]

I seem to have very few clothes or any clothes that I want to wear anyway.

What do you reckon should be in the wardrobe of a thirty something SAHM? I want to look smart but casual and stylish but not too trendy. Any ideas?

And always wash and style your hair and put make up on.

If you can afford it, nails done too.

top tip - get a necklace to match each pair of trousers. Transforms trous+tshirt into Outfit with v little actual effort.

Yes - hair is a bit of an issue too. Pre ds I had a very chic bob but I couldn't style it myself so I am ashamed to say that I used to pay to have it blow dried once a week and even more I used to make dh put the straightners on it a couple of times a week if it needed rewashing! Now my hair is long as it is easier to manage than a bob but it looks scruffy because I am totally crap at blowdrying. Nails are a disgrace too if my ex colleagues could see me now! Actually I don't even think they would recognise me .

Primark has bangles, beads, belts etc for next to nothing

Have you some GHDs? If not, invest pronto - you can blast your hair with the dryer and smooth with the straighteners. Easy peasy.

Nails - if you can afford it have acrylic ones. I have mine done every 2 weeks so they always look smart. Hate tatty nails and mine were just a mess from washing up, hoiking buggy about etc. Acrylic are rock hard and don't break - perfect. THey look really natural too - most people think they are my own nails.

Get hair cut into simple style that just need straightening to 'style' it rather than fannying about with hairdryer and brushes.
Keep nails trimmed short, no need for poncey manicures!

superdrug has groovy, cheap jewellery too

MrsBadger · 29/08/2006 14:23

Am so with you on the no-blow-drying thing - I never do mine, in fact rarely do anythign other than comb it as I leave the shower. But low maintenance does not mean bad hair.
Get scarf / bandeau things if they suit you - I love them as they make my long hair look tamed and stylish with v little effort.
Or if you can't do hair down get a grown-up clip or claw the same colour as your hair and put it up with élan. No scrunchies, no ponytails unless very neat and glossy. Boots is a good source of non-tacky accessories, esp a make called Scunci.
