Getting married in 4 months and still no dress! Can you help this unsavvy bride find a short white or cream high street dress to get married in?

Hi all

I've been engaged since the beginning of this year but felt too out of shape / dispirited to go dress shopping. I'm now down to a 10/12 and think it's time I kicked myself into action as getting married in 4 months' time!

Unfortunately, I can't afford to go to proper bridal shops, so I'm just looking at the high street. I'm not the savviest of clothes shoppers at the best of times, so I'm really hoping you stylish folk will be able to think of more places to look than I have!

Ideally, I think I'm looking for something shorter - I'd like to be able to move about quite easily (plus I'm not that all, and no good in really high heels, so would be good if I didn't have to have anything taken up!).

So far I've looked in the traditional high street bridalwear type places - Monsoon, Phase Eight, Debenhams and BHS.

Amongst these, I've liked the BHS Short Rose dress and the [[http://www.phase-eight.co.uk/fcp/product/phase-eight//Florentine-Wedding-Dress/202419102 Phase Eight Florentine dress].

The problem with the Phase Eight one is that although I'm only a 10/12, I've got lots of lumps and bumps and that dress is actually quite clingy and unforgiving (looks great on the model of course!).

The BHS one is nice, but just wondering if there is anything else a bit more special out there.

I also love the Diane von Furstenberg Zarita dress. The only problem there is it again looks very clingy and I'm quite apple-y / not much waist to speak of. So shifts are good, but body cons are not my friend!

I'd be so grateful of any ideas as I haven't found many options and starting to really worry I won't look that great on my wedding day! in advance for any suggestions!

Ooh, thanks for the quick reply RosesandRugby! I do love the 50s look (and love that price!), but wondering if you really need to have a waspish waist for that one...

Oh gosh, yes, that chiffon one is much more forgiving! So glad I've asked for help as that's exactly the sort of website and shop I would never have heard of and need help finding!

No, I have several of those 50's dresses. Theyre boned and give you that waist. You can also buy one of the elastic belts to give you more curves but generally I find they give you the look anyway :-D If you do get one, I recommend purchasing a petticoat from amazon/ebay type places as theyre expensive on that website. Have a lovely day whatever dress you choose.

Reiss have a bridal section on thier website, don't know what its like though but I would think its within your budget.

Thanks MissBlake. I didn't know Reiss had a bridal section. Just had a look and I really like their Jennifer dress. It's lovely and looks like it could be quite forgiving too!

Reiss have some lovely dresses at the moment. My friend brought this one in red to wear to a wedding and it looked really stunning on her. The pleated back of the dress is lovely:

don't forget charity shops and second-hand bridal wear shops. Frocks of all sorts for peanuts.

of course you may want to wear white or cream - but if it makes you look dead (as it does me) then other colours are available. :-)

A lot of bridal shops have sample prom dresses, a lot of which would be great as wedding dresses if you ordered them in white/ivory/cream. You would need to get your skates on to order one in time though!

I'll second strawberryblondebint's recommendation of the La Redoute dress. I have it in black and it's gorgeous.

im getting married in October and have bought my dress from modcloth.com, its a us site but there are some lovely dresses on there, I can also recommend Unique Vintage and don't rule out ebay, cutting edge bridal have some end of line dresses for £150 which are short or tea length.
