Best shapewear for tummies/waist

lalalonglegs · 03/05/2014 10:36

Can anyone recommend shapewear that will flatten a tummy and create a waist. I'm not a big fan of Spanx as they seem a bit too industrial - I basically want a pair of Bridget Jones-style knickers that will do the job, not curl over at the waistband after ten minutes and can be machine-washed.

TIA

Oh me too.

I've got a pair of spanx but the leg bit comes down over the thigh which isn't nice.

I also want knickers but ones that come up high over the waist and have very serious hold. (Moon on stick type situation).

I've got an M&S slip thing that you wear with a bra. Brillaint

MrsFlorrick · 04/05/2014 20:47

Middleaged. Is it really tight? I tried M&S control knickers and they did nothing at all to hold anything in. I even sized down to an 8 (normally 12).

Any other suggestions?

I've seen some high control knickers in Triumph. Anyone tried those??

Fairylea · 04/05/2014 20:51

Well I can tell you to avoid the tesco ones.... spent the whole day trying to remove them from my bum. Most uncomfortable.

And the yours ones (supposedly like mini spanx) never did anything except make me generate enough static electricity to power my own house.

Watching with interest. ...

MikeLitoris · 04/05/2014 20:53

I've heard good things about the H&M ones.

Not tried them though

I have a pair from peacocks that come upto the bra line and are knicker shape at the bottom. Not too bad. Sometimes I wear em with my Asda big knickers as an added hold.

FelixFelix · 04/05/2014 20:54

Middleaged I've got the slip which you can wear a bra with too and it's excellent. Would recommend to anyone! I wear it all the time and it's very comfy too.

I am not sure about underwear but have Lysee leggings from John Lewis which are brill and a short slip from Dunnes (in Ireland) which is great under dresses.

I have given up on big girl pants that tuck into my bra cos they all bloody roll down. I have found the best thing is actually a waist syncher corset thing. It doesn't give me the Flubber over hang from knickers either. I sound so attractive there don't I?! Grin

middleagedspread · 04/05/2014 20:58

No MrsF it's not tight at all. Bit of a squeeze to get on but smooths everything in, especially in the tummy area. Definitely no riding up.

www.marksandspencer.com/firm-control-sheer-and-opaque-wear-your-own-bra-slip/p/p22232543. Not the most glam but very effective.

SESthebrave · 04/05/2014 21:07

The best I've come across are from JoJoMaman. They do high post natal pants that can be washed (not tumble dried) that do the job for me.

MrsFlorrick · 04/05/2014 22:00

Middleaged. Thanks. Thanks

I also need something without straps. Any ideas?

mummytere · 08/05/2014 13:20

I really like mamaway's. It works for nursing mums as well. The material is super thin but effective. But the important thing is to choose the right size- you should do one size down from your normal size to see the effect. Good luck
