Hats and fascinators for pixie short hair

Suddengeekgirl · 25/04/2014 20:42

We are going to a wedding this summer which will be a morning suits and hats type affair.

I have pixie short hair and already have a dress to wear :) as found by MN months ago
And hot pink heels and wrap.

I have never worn a hat or fascinator to a wedding before so am utterly clueless, but I do quite fancy one!

Can you advise me about what shapes/ styles etc work with short hair?

Thanks!

How short of a pixie cut are we talking? When I had mine I felt they were a bit too overpowering, so I went for a fuschia pink flowered clip instead. I'll try and stick a pic on my profile for you to see.

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 25/04/2014 22:09

Not the best pic, but I've popped one on my profile for a short while so you can see.

Suddengeekgirl · 25/04/2014 22:15

Thanks for that! :) nice dress BTW.

my hair is shorter than yours.

I'm thinking of something asymmetric...

would this work?
blue hat

FreakinScaryCaaw · 25/04/2014 22:42

Something like this would be nice. In silver or blue perhaps?

What colour's your hair?

Here's the page I got it from.

Justinepants · 26/04/2014 00:03

How about something like this. With that dress I think it needs to look quite modern with similarly clean lines.

Suddengeekgirl · 26/04/2014 06:48

jimmy - I like the hat but think it's too winter-y for a summer wedding. I'm imagining a day of beautiful sunshine as I dance the night away in a field! in reality I will be trying to keep my children out the trees/ puddles in their bridesmaid and morning suit finery!

freakin I like that one, although not sure about the veil - might change my mind if I tried one on.

justine I think I'd like something a bit bigger iykwim, but I definitely need to go try some on don't i. Confused

My hair is medium brown but has a fair smattering of white too. :( I'm only 32 but my hair either doesn't take dye, or my scalp gets irritated by dye. So grey I am going Blush
Would a silver/ grey hat highlight the grey in my hair - in a bad way?

delicate but unusual
Biba

another blue option
blue

Coast also have some other ones you might like

Suddengeekgirl · 26/04/2014 12:38

I like the peacock feathers :)

What colour do you think I should go for?
Blue like the dress? Hot pink like my accessories? Or something completely different?Confused

I don't want to spend too much as suit hire alone is going to be £££ and I'm unlikely to wear it again.

I've found a few on etsy,

I like this shape here
And this here

And am tempted by this one but might ask seller about a different colour combo feathery

OP posts:
jimmybim · 26/04/2014 13:06

I like the last one ! I agree the feather combo in the main picture looks a little bit browny pink but when you click through the other images the feathers seem more grey which I think would work better with your pink accessories and dress colour.

I have jean seberg type short hair and at christmas wore a feathered and jewelled hair band. It looked nicer than it soubds! It was white feathers and clear jewels, it sat flatter than a facinator but was quite dressy.

Cocolepew · 26/04/2014 13:12

This type of thing

Coco has posted the sort of thing I was going to suggest. V short hair surely can't hold a fascinator securely?

Suddengeekgirl · 26/04/2014 13:20

families - that's one of my worries. Confused
I'm going to pinch a couple from dsis but they won't look right I think as they're navy or black. I think a comb will probably be ok if it's a light weight one. My hair is very thick

I don't think I can get away with an elastic strap to secure the fascinator.

Do we think peacock feathers would work?
Off to find a link to what I'm on about.

Coco -I like that style a lot! Part of me wants a big sticky out fascinator - but don't know if it would stay attached to my head! Confused

Snapespeare · 26/04/2014 13:31

I think there's a superstition that peacock feathers are bad luck? If so, might not be appropriate for a wedding (sorry, because it is lovely!)

Suddengeekgirl · 26/04/2014 13:32

Oh bugger! I'm not superstitious but I'm betting there will be a few Hmm if that's true! mostly from mil I bet

OP posts:
Snapespeare · 26/04/2014 13:35

No, I'm not superstitious either, but wouldn't want to risk upsetting someone who is MIL at a wedding.

Suddengeekgirl · 26/04/2014 13:53

What about this?
Listing days it can be made with a variety of clouts and also on a headband.

I was trying on fasinators last week and they look a bit daft tbh, though that could just be me. I do suit a hat though
I gave a peacock feather clip I wear.

Cocolepew · 26/04/2014 17:45

It's not a great photo but this is mine , the feathers are white and so is the metal band. The adornment sits to the side of my head .
