Can't find a smart summer jacket with a hood! :(

I spent most of yesterday afternoon (rare child-free day) on the high street looking for a lightweight summer jacket with a hood for under 50 and drew a total blank! I walk with DD to nursery every day so a hood is essential and it needs to be relatively smart so I can go to work in it.

Rack upon rack of blazers, trench coats, thin macs and festival-style parkas, none of which are suitable. Winter coats are just too thick.

I found this which is kind of what I'm looking for (although I don't like the toggles) but its a bit out of budget. Nothing else even came close.

Feel like I'm looking for the holy grail of coats, especially on my budget. Has anyone seen anything that might solve my problem? Sad

Smart jacket with a hood?? Is that what you call an oxymoron?

AnnaLegovah · 11/04/2014 16:00

Possibly! Grin

There's plenty of smart winter coats with hoods out there but I can't find a summer equivalent. I don't get it, it still rains in the summer. Wink

AnnaLegovah · 11/04/2014 16:20

hashtagwhatever · 11/04/2014 16:24

New look, Asos or boo hoo.com

Seasalt has a couple a little over your budget and quality is worth the investment Grin

AnnaLegovah · 11/04/2014 16:34

Went to TK Maxx and New Look, didn't have anything. Looked at Asos and nothing there. Havn't tried boohoo.com so will have a look there. Smile

Sorry Jimmy but that M&S one looks like something my nan would wear. Grin The Boden ones are a bit loud. I actually tried that House of Fraser one on yesterday! But there's no hood in the collar. Sad

The Zara one is ok, liberty even if it has the dreaded toggles. No Zara in my town so would have to take the chance of getting it delivered. Front runner at the moment I think!

I'm not bein obstructive, honest. I'm not that picky about clothes. Blush

I quite like that Seafolly jacket Cherry but I really can't justify 70 for a coat. Blush

I saw this the other day sexy mac I don't think they have launched yet, and it's an awful name, but could be the answer?! Hoods are so much better than umbrellas!

jimmybim · 11/04/2014 16:43

sorry meant to link to this M&S one but now realise its too much money, sorry. www.marksandspencer.com/hooded-knee-length-anorak-with-stormwear/p/p22274923
Are you specifically after a black one? Too plain?www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_61132+410478BLA_-1

noddyholder · 11/04/2014 16:45

I hate anoraks on women male or female so unflattering

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 11/04/2014 16:55

I think the Zara one (ignoring the hof one because it doesn't have a hood) is the least frumpy, it it isn't great either.

Does it have to be proper anorak style like all those posted op?

noddyholder · 11/04/2014 17:04

I think with 'functional' clothes its best to forget smart and just get something in your price range that does the job eg weatherproof as clothes like this aren't really smart. North face etc are quite cool in some shapes but very expensive. A plain navy cagoule type in a decent fabric would look better than those floppy shapeless anoraks imho. Have you looked in any camping type shops?

noddyholder · 11/04/2014 17:06

this looks ok

simmerandstew · 11/04/2014 17:07

Not sure if I like this but it's a different style

Have you looked at fat face? They had some jackets for £48 with Hoods I think

piscivorous · 11/04/2014 17:30

I looked everywhere for something similar and eventually found one, unexpectedly, in Asda last week. It is this
