Can Make up make your eyes tired?

Some days usually wheni have had make up on, my eyes are really tired by approach 6pm and it affects my eyesight. Does anyone else get this?

I developed an allergy to something in eye makeup (brown pigment?) years ago and the main symptoms were itchy, red, tired feeling eyes. I had to test quite a few brands before I found allergy-neutral alternatives.

My eyes aren't itchy and red. But they feel tired and a bit watery although not much and the big thing is I can't see properly. If I have a wee sleep it's fine again.

When was the last time you had your sight tested?

Had a sight test about 1 year ago when they said if my eyes were tired to put false tears into them!ayne time to consider a second opinion.

Yep. Mine don't get sore just very tired as if I've had no sleep.

It's not just make up. I've had it when I have changed shampoo and conditioner.

I wish I could find out what it actually is that causes it as sick of buying make up and not being able to wear it.

I get this too although it also happens the next day as well because I don't wear make-up everyday.

I only wear a sensitive mascara and I always put it down to the weight of it rather than ingredients

I've tried minerals make up and it's awful. So did wonder if it gets in my eyes.

But there again get it wearing none, but have maybe used a different shampoo.

Worse thing ever had been Clinique anti aging cream
( present from DH when he had been away, he did live to tell the tail)

In fact haven't found a moisturiser that dosnt do it to me now, so just use e45 lotion.

So do we think it is a product doing it rather than a problem with our eyesight?

I get this too (although with 2 pre schoolers I am generally v tired!) but its made worse when Ive put on make up.
I always assumed it was just the fact I was forced to keep my eyes open while applying and it made them water.

When ds was 11mo I had my make up done by Mac for my wedding and it made my eyes water so much I think just the fact that my already tired eyes were being poked and prodded and I couldnt blink when I wanted to in case I smudged it!

I think it's something in the product. Litho ugh not sure what. As I said it's not just make up.
I have a long fringe ( think Davina McCall ) which is why I think hair products affect me.
It must be something that is common in each, but have tried looking at each ones ingredients but can't work out which one.

I'd get my eyesight tested again just to make sure, anywhere but Specsavers.

Dame thank you. The last two times I have gone to spec saver. I was doubting their test. Can u tell me why u think I should avoid?

I've seen that before on mumsney but specsavers Is really good where I live, and brilliant with children. Still of your last visit was specsavers is worth trying a different one.

I clicked as I think I make my eyes feel heavy with mascara. Sometimes I feel nauseus a little or my eye looks red. I was going to try a different one but wear it so rarely i forget!

No.7 eye shadow makes my eyes red and closed like I've been crying when I haven't. In pics I look like I've got full blown hay fever! I don't use no. 7 anymore and all others are fine!

Specsavers is a franchise, they do in house training iirc so not as good as an independent opticians. My father, my husband and me plus at least 3 friends have been given completely the wrong prescription. All from different branches. I was sold a pair of clear glasses one year for reading and told I needed vari vocals last year. I need nothing of the sort as I could have told them. Even the eye test at an independent optician is far superior to SS. I actually have a slight prescription for long distance, near sight is perfect.

Thank you Dame. I have been given a script from them and I cans see through the glasses without my eyes adjusting IYSWIM. I can feel my eyes straining when they are on. I went back for a second opinion and they agreed those were correct for me. I think I will get an Independant test today. Thank you.

Gosh - never heard anything but good from our one, and they're often the recommended one at the school gates for children's eyetests as they do those separately and the optician is brilliant with the children.

It's certainly the one to go to in our area! I guess as with any franchise they differ.

If you have an independent one with just one optician they may or may not stay updated/ have colleagues to confer with/ be as good with children or be brilliant - you just wouldn't know until you tried as with anything.

But to the OP whichever you'd been to it would be worth getting a second opinion from a different one!

It sounds to me like you have mild cases of Blepharitis.This is an inflammation of the edge of the eye caused by allergies,make up or infection.It can cause tired greasy blurry dry eyes ( I developed it years ago after laser eye correction).The simplest way to treat it is scrub the edges of your eye with a clean cotton wool bud soaked in a cup of cooled boiled water with a drop of Johnsons Baby Shampoo in it.Do this morning and night.

The blepharitis thing is possibly true, and the treatment works (although it's a pta and you have to do it forever). However, this doesn't mean you 're not being acfected by make up/shampoo etc. i definitely am; in fact, I've started wearing mascara again most days and am now getting a feeling of 'soot in the eye.' I do have a cold atm as well.

An optician told me to just scrub with hot tap water and a flannel to sort any flakiness; much better for me than soap.

Yes to hairwash day - styling spray as well as shampoo etc. but I've found a combo that doesn't make my scalp flake so... I also can only wear useless Jo Malone perfume as anyrhing else gives me a headache/tiredness.

I now only get Blepharitus at certain times of year otherwise I don't have a problem(My trigger seems to be heat and humidity).I also have allergic reactive skin/eyes ( but am fine with Clinique products).Some persons trigger will be pollen maybe.

as an aside, you should never wear eyeliner on the inner rim of your eyes, and definitely not if you wear contacts.

but this sounds like a duff pair of specs and a possible eye infection. Get tested and checked.

Thanks Teta, blepharitis was definitely what I had and it went away when I discontinued the Diorskin undereye concealer and Maybelline eye pencil I was using. Chanel, Almay, Physician's Formula and Lily Lolo are allergy free for me but I get very itchy and dry eyes from Clinique and Dior products. Before I realized that I was allergic I just thought my eyes were exceptionally tired by early afternoon. I generally don't wear mascara.

One more thing to consider if you have dry, tired eyes is ocular rosacea.

Ahhhh. U see there was me thinking my eyes were just tired. As it only happens after I have had make up on for a while. Not all day. Does that still sound right

i have been getting this recently, almost like my eyes feel tired and blurred by the end of the day.

How long has it been going on op?

My dad gets blepharitis, could be that, the only other thing it's coincided with is that i a using under eye concealer for the first time?
