Harem trousers. Do people still wear them and if so what with?

I've seen some Harem trousers in Next and they have got great reviews. I know that they were fashionable last year but are they still now?

I would love to get them based on the comfort factor but don't know what top to wear with them or what is worn on feet?

I've twice bought a pair, then returned them, as I just can't see how they'd work for me. I love the idea, but not the reality....

I love them and wear all kinds with them. Dressed down mainly with trainers and sweatshirt but also nice sparkly sandals when it's warmer and a nice top. gb.pinterest.com/explore/harem-pants-outfit/

I've had a few pairs since around 2010. I wear them for various things:

To Pilates
For travelling long haul (soft fold over waistband on one pair and they don't crease - perfect)
With a strappy vest and flat sandals in the summer
With wedge trainers and sweatshirts
Tucked into hi-top trainers / ankle boots
With wedge sandals and whichever top for evening wear in summer.

And I'm old 44.

I like them with sparkly sandals. I find the top has to be fitted or I look a bit silly.

I've just ordered a printed pair from Next - I'm not normally a print on my bottom half sort of girl but they look good! Planning to wear them with vests and silver sandals or flipflops in the summer, and longer sleeve plain tops and trainers now. I agree they'd be really comfy for travelling.

Thanks, this has given me a few ideas. I forgot to look at Pinterest Foxy so will have a look there for some more.

Oops. I have worn my cheap h&m harems to death since I got them when pregnant last year (amazing for when you're pregnant...even wore them to hospital when I was in labour) and have been dithering over an upgrade to the Hush ones. This thread just tipped me over the edge. Damn PayPal and instant gratification.

I do think they are terrible. If you are size 8 and tall fine. Otherwise no

I wear them a lot am size 12 and 5'5 Grin. I think they suit my shape as have v slim thighs and bum but not tiny waist I wear evening and day with strappy shoes and fairly fitted tops. I think the cheap black jersey ones the harem equivalent of cheapy leggings look terrible but decent ones look nice

Zara and mango both have loose fit trousers which are a smarter more structured alternative I like those esp the cream.

I love them, they are so comfortable. OTOH DH hates them with a passion, and has promised to throw them in the bin if I wear them again. So I have to keep hiding them.
I admit they are not a great look on me, size 12, 5'6", pear shape++ with wobbly thighs. I only wear mine on downtime, with a T/sweatshirt and trainers, not going out. Love them.

Love those Hush ones. I have the Next smudge print ones and a couple of silk pairs from East. I wear them with a simple fitted vest top, chunky jewellery and gold sandals.

I was thinking of getting some for at home. I don't think I would wear them out except for a quick trip to the corner shop. I hate coming home from work having a shower and then changing into a clean outfit, I like to put my nightwear on, but sometimes its too early and I have to pop out, o was thinking harem and a vest top with a zip up hoody for if I have to go out, perhaps with either new balance trainers or those skate shoes.

pleated trousers are o good for me,
In fact any extra material on the leg area makes my slim legs look like whoppas

I have lots of harem style trousers. Not too baggy though, otherwise it makes me look hippy. (& not in a groovy chick way)
I am size 8 and 5ft 7, so can just about get away with them.

Hmmm - been thinking about trying these for a while... (Yes, am a late adopter...). Do those of you who have the hush ones think they'll suit a 5'5'' slim pear-shaped person? (6/8 on top and 8/10 on bottom). Actually, I could just order them and send them back if they don't!

I wear mine with skinny fit T-shirt and ballet flats/sandals

Mine are Hush too! They are just fab and oddly flattering.

I am a slim pear shaped sort of shape, i.e. small waist and wide hips. Size 12/14 but 6ft1.

They come up big! The M is almost big on me.

LordP - I couldn't get the "pyjamas" image out of my head either.

And I can't imagine an evening do where I'd be wafting about in harems and gold sandals.

It's a bit like maxi dresses - nice idea, but they just feel....wrong to wear. Like a nightie, funnily enough. Grin
