White jeans - yay or nay?

pinkflaming0 · 23/03/2014 16:57

I always like the idea of white jeans as an alternative to blue denim in the summer. But...I feel a bit 'Liz Hurley' in them. You know, trying a bit too hard to be young and glam.

Also, I hate seeing the linings of pockets through the fabric - why bother with real pockets if the fabric isn't thick enough to hide them? If I felt right in them and they fitted properly I'd take out the linings and sew up the pockets but not found a pair that do it for me enough to be bothered with that.

Thinking maybe of giving these a try.

I like white jeans so they get a yay from me.

FrugalFashionista · 23/03/2014 17:09

I hate the see through pocket effect too - you just have to pick decent quality jeans to avoid it (no issues with my MiH and JBrands, though you'd probably also find good quality at Zara). I loved my white jeans last summer, they were so versatile. It's a mainstream look these days, no need to worry.

EarSlaps · 23/03/2014 17:19

I like the idea but I attract dirt!

HappyGirlNow · 23/03/2014 17:23

Yay! But styled in a cool way like this..

Boden tapered trousers or ankle-skimmers are great. You can always pick up a pair in the sale because white isn't that popular. They're a bit smarter looker than denim and not see-through because they are good quality. Look great with jumpers tunics vests etc and wash well. Added bonus you can wear them to work and look smart. I do like white jeans myself but they are clingy and therefore not as flattering plus in summer, when you are most likely to pull off the white jeans look, wearing them denim feels a bit heavy.

nirishma · 23/03/2014 17:25

Sorry about the grammatical howlers - new phone plus fat fingers!

pinkflaming0 · 23/03/2014 17:30

Thanks for the replies.

Happy I like pics 1 & 3 best.

nirishma I find Boden trousers are often the wrong shape for me in the past so haven't tried any for a while. Used to be too big in the waist and too tight on the hips. Might have to give them another go.

I'm really not a fan of white jeans. They always seem to be on women with a snooty look on their face who then go on to do something revoltingly entitled (not you, OP, I'm sure you're lovely!). The most recent one was a lady in GAP buying clothes for her DD having a looooong conversation at the checkout till about size, shape etc etc and going back and forth to get more things while a queue built up behind her. That's a white jeans person in my experience.

noddyholder · 23/03/2014 17:38

I love them and wear every summer for last 20 years! I feel a bit liz hurley too but I like that Wink

pinkflaming0 · 23/03/2014 17:38

Lol whereisshe - was it Liz Hurley?

OP posts:
whereisshe · 23/03/2014 17:47

Not liz Hurley Grin although she did have a similar "kept" look!

minniebar · 23/03/2014 17:47

Perfect for rollerblading when you're on your period, I find.

lurkingaround · 23/03/2014 18:04

I love love love white jeans. I know I shouldn't, being as pear as I am but I love them. Tho I am finding it v difficult to find the elusive perfect pair.

I do know what you mean whereisshe. Grin You must've been in Gap the same day as me! White size 6 or 8 jeans, tan, enviably tiny bottom, Michael Kors bag over the shoulder, wedge sandals, bit of jangly gold jewelry, and an endless conversation at the checkout about exchanging jeans. Someone 'living the dream' (I don't think!). I don't think that's the white jeans tho!

Glossolalias · 23/03/2014 18:20

How do you keep clean if you wear white jeans?

FrugalFashionista · 23/03/2014 18:43

I had no problems with keeping them clean. Obviously if you are weaning a baby and introducing purees, they are not a practical choice, but with my 3yo and 5yo, they were no different from light-wash jeans. I washed them perhaps every four or five days and bought another pair because I loved them so much that I didn't want to wear regular jeans on laundry days. If you buy high quality cotton, you can use bleach on them though we have always used sunshine for removing tomato stains.

I live in Italy where it gets quite hot in the summer but I wore them with loose tops (denim and chambray looked particularly good). They went with absolutely everything in my wardrobe.

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/03/2014 18:44

Yes most definitely - I have topshop baxters, some zara ones, j brand 811's and really want frame garcon too.

CointreauVersial · 23/03/2014 19:06

Yay ! In fact, I wore mine yesterday, with a black/white marled jumper and long black boots. They are great in the summer, particularly with pastel colours or navy blue, worn slightly cropped with flat sandals or ballet pumps.

They must be good thick denim, so there is no showthrough of stripy pants, pink thigh or pocket linings. Mine are Gap Premium Skinny from a few years ago.

GeorginaWorsley · 23/03/2014 21:06

I knew you would be here mrs CB Grin

I like them, have just lost weight so will be embracing white jeans this summer!

Hassled · 23/03/2014 21:08

I just can't get past the Liz Hurley thing. Or that woman on Triangle - Kate O'Mara? She wore lots of white jeans, I'm sure.

pinkflaming0 · 23/03/2014 21:09

OK. Looks like the 'yays' have it.

Will try harder to find the perfect pair. Being 34" inside leg can be challenging but being summer slightly short should be fine as long as they're not too tight round the lower leg.

Boden look like a non-starter as only 29" inside leg.

I like GAP which fit me well - wonder of they have any...

Have never tried Topshop so worth a look. Next are hit and miss on the fit (more often miss these days).

levi have some nice pinkey ones, nicer thanwhite, bit different

Cringechilli · 23/03/2014 21:16

White jeans invite period stains.
Grin

pinkflaming0 · 23/03/2014 21:23

OMG Hassled Triangle - blast from the past. Yes, Kate O'Mara. Smile

GAP only have skinny and I can't usually get those up my legs.

Found these from Next but sold out in my size (the only size that it - of course!). Might try next size up but will probably gape on the waist.

Slightly worryingly the Next reviews are mostly from people (one's apparently a man Confused) aged 45+. Which I am, but somehow don't like to think of myself as Smile

Topshop all look scarily skinny!

OP posts:
lurkingaround · 23/03/2014 22:12

Those Next look good. I wish Gap would do their real straight jeans in white. I find their always skinny ones a bit too skinny for me.

GiniCooper · 23/03/2014 22:44

OP, Lve white jeans or even white ankle skim trousers. Your pics are a bit camel toe though. Camel toe, pocket bulge and unsightly stretch to be avoided at all cost.
