Puddles1234 · 21/03/2014 18:55

Hello

I would like some impartial opinions from the Mumsnet S&B gurus.

I am pregnant and am going to be attending a close friends birthday party. They are are having a Garden Party theme at her parents country house.

I have brought a few dress and would like some opinions.

Really?

Guitargirl · 21/03/2014 19:13

P.S. The last two look a bit bridal to me...

MarshaBrady · 21/03/2014 19:15

I prefer the Cavalli and Marchesa.

Puddles1234 · 21/03/2014 19:20

I also have this but think i may look fat.

I agree the Cavalli and Marchesa
I don't think my wedding dress (not that I'm presently getting married!) would even cost that much though!

TacitusMouse · 21/03/2014 19:21

If you're pregnant you probably don't want the poofy skirt on that one

TacitusMouse · 21/03/2014 19:22

Out of them all this is my favourite

MarshaBrady · 21/03/2014 19:25

Yes it's beautiful and agree re the bump in the floral.

WipsGlitter · 21/03/2014 19:31

The floral, one is the only one I'd wear to a garden party. The rest are evening dresses.

Is this a piss take though. They're ridiculously expensive.

Allalonenow · 21/03/2014 19:36

I like the Lanvin best, though the Cavalli is very pretty too. Which one do you feel most comfortable in?

Puddles1234 · 21/03/2014 19:39

WipsGlitter Why is it a 'Piss Take' would you say that if I was buying from Hobbs or the like?

PearlyGrey Thank you for those. It has a Garden Party theme however we have been told its 'Glamorous' I tend to overdress anyway. I am a little ostentatious by nature Blush

The Cavalli is gorgeous however I have a large bust and it looks a bit tacky with the bump and all.

The Marchesa makes me look frumpy says Granny.

My friends love this one the best:

I am so confused. My budget is £10000 so anything up to that.

OP posts:
ScarlettOHaraHamilton · 21/03/2014 19:56

I don't think Wisp means to be rude, it's just that while there are MNetters who like to and can spend good money on clothes, there are also people on here who are trying to get by all year on £10,000. Not that that means you can't post, just... don't be surprised when people make the odd comment on spending that much money on a dress.

I think most of them are a bit too white and wedding-y for my taste, and I can't quite picture how the hangy skirts work with a bump? I picture then sticking out more! I'd be more tempted by this, as I think on a big bump tight dresses do actually look better.

TacitusMouse · 21/03/2014 20:22

I think the Temperley one you posted won't look good with a bump as it'll hang really funny.

I think that one the Scarlett just posted would work though and not look so weddingy

WipsGlitter · 21/03/2014 21:54

Sorry, but it is unsual to have such a large budget for clothes. I come from a wealthy family but I'd not spend that on a dress. shrugs

TacitusMouse · 21/03/2014 22:11

Yes it's unusual but if you do choose to spend that money on clothes it's your choice. They weren't coming here for judgement on prices but on how things look

WipsGlitter · 21/03/2014 22:17

And I gave advice on that too. The dresses the OP picked are not garden party dresses.

PearlyGrey · 21/03/2014 22:25

No problem I'm enjoying a fantasy shop!
I think for a garden party I'd go for a floral print or pastel. And if you want full length then a more casual style.
Here are a few more - again it depends how pregnant you'll be as to how they'll fit/hang. If you're going to have a big bump by the party maybe go for a more kaftan look?

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 21/03/2014 22:26

How pregnant / how big will your bump be? I found it a nightmare to find a party dress when pregnant.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 21/03/2014 22:28

How about this? www.net-a-porter.com/product/408772/Alexander_McQueen/floral-print-silk-chiffon-gown

Foxred10 · 21/03/2014 22:42

What about this Marchesa? Less bridal and should be flattering to a booby / pregnant shape

www.net-a-porter.com/product/411506

Or this Temperley

MyFirstName · 21/03/2014 22:48

I have zero idea about fashion but I am immensely pragmatic so you do need to consider the size of your bump.

  1. Go for full length/maxi - that way if your legs/ankles are puffy you can hide them
  2. Ditto above for hiding varicose veins should you be cursed with them (my SIL had them terribly)
  3. Really consider the stage of your pregnancy. You may again wish to consider something you can wear with flats
  4. If you are buying something that will suit the shape of your pregnant body you may then find it is not something you will ever get wear out of again - so maybe put more of your budget on bag/shoes/accessories and less on the dress IYSWIM
Puddles1234 · 21/03/2014 22:55

PearlyGrey I love all of those. I already have the Dolce and Gabbana poplin dress it's incredible in real life.

I have ordered the Alexander McQueen dress that you and BelindaAllWorkedOut suggested. Funny enough I already have a McQueen dress in that style but a different colour.

No kaftans I am short, size 10 with large boobs so I look like a fat whale in kaftans.
