high-end "investment" jeans

Inspired by the thread on how to look "so put together," I've decided to invest in those stupidly expensive jeans that guarantee to make your ass look great, flatten your tummy, and last you years.

Only, which ones are they?

I'm an apple shaped and prefer high waist and so far have shortlisted the following

NYDJ (not your daughter's jeans)
7 FOR ALL MANKIND
J Brand

Anyone has these? Do you love them? Any other jeans you swear by?

My list is currently influenced by Selfridges' website, so I'd love to hear from anyone who has bought these or any other high-end jeans. I plan to live in mine. Grin

I invested £139.95 in NYDJ, went to a smaller size and they felt like a second skin and I was really delighted. After just 3 washes they bagged at the knees and looked crap so I took them back for a full refund.

Since then I've been really put off of 'investment' jeans :(

I just don't get the idea of investment jeans either. I've got some "designer" jeans from T K Maxx over the years (7 for all Mankind, J Brand, Paper Denim Cloth, Earl) and TBH, none of them have been anything special. I always go back to Uniqlo for jeans. I have some lovely MiH ones but they're no different to an identically cut pair from Zara that I have.

Don't believe the hype! Just try a whole load on in Uniqlo or T K Maxx or wherever and get what suits you. There's no magic brand.

I had J Brand when I was postnatal to cheer myself up, they were ok.

I'm now wearing True Religion skinnies and Paige peg jeans, they are marvellous. Don't bag or fade, they are cut so well they are really flattering. I don't get so many compliments when I'm wearing River Island or New Look etc.

If you are looking at Selfridges, why not visit their denim studio and spend a while trying things on?

Do not buy NYDJ ! Stretch like buggery then look really frumpy . Can't comment on the other two . I tend to wear gap jeans .

I second the NYDJ warnings. They are FANTASTIC at first but at the end of the day are at least one size, maybe two sizes too big.

Went looking for investment jeans last year, tried on at least 30pairs and I remain unconvinced that they are any better than a good fitting pair from the high street. I like Richmond skinnies from Jigsaw and Real Straight from Gap.

My best fitting jeans are from hollister. Reasonably priced and keep their shape.

I'm a high waisted apple too and Current/Elliot Stiletto jeans are very flattering. Better than my Paige and Goldsigns for my shape.

I got a pair of Gstar raw skinnies( in my early 20s) and they are great. Some real 'chavy' looking Gstars though so be careful.

I tried a whole lot of j brand jeans on recently and was pretty disappointed. There was nothing wrong with them but nothing really special about them either ... the denim in particular seemed quite thin ...

I have a true religion pair however tgat have lasred forever. Not my favourites though, still on the searh for the best pair!

I bought some MiH jeans - they were around 140 or so. I wear them every single week, they get washed every single week, I have had them for almost two years, and they are still my "good jeans". I will definately buy another pair of these.

I had bought 7 for all mankind before. Really loved them, but found the denim quite thin and that they wore out after a year of wearing. (But I do live in jeans, therefore I probably wear more than an average person!)

I go back and forth on investment jeans. I have a couple of pairs of J brands and they are lovely, but equally my other favourite pair of jeans is a pair of Topshop Jamies. I think it's about finding a shape that works for you in a reasonable quality (I also have a New Look pair of jeans. worst quality ever). I think my J Brands do have the edge, but there's not a lot in it, given that the J Brands cost something like £80 more.

I'm wearing Current Elliot skinnies today (£30 in the sale) and well, they are nice enough, but not really any better than the M&S jeggings I usually buy. The only difference is that the seams sit a bit more neatly.

Im a size 10/12 apple shape. Seven jeans are ime a terrible fit for apple shapes. I have a major muffin top in them and most of them are so low rise that I'd need a bikini wax to wear them!

Im mostly wearing mint velvet skinnies at the moment and the rise is perfect. They took a few goes in the dryer to fit properly. They were too lose at first.

I've heard good things about salsa jeans.

I'm now look around for an alternative to skinnies do I'll watch this thread with interest.

I love MiH, they fit my frame (sorry not apple) better than other makes and my oldest pair has been washed dozens of times over the past three years and they are still great. I feel high end jeans can be better than budget choices when stretch is involved. H&M, Topshop or just never worked for me, they lost their shspe quickly. I also like the longer leg lengths you tend to find in premium denim.

In boyfriend jeans (=no stretch) H&M and other cheaper brands are a great choice.

I think it's a case of finding what's the right investment for you. I tend to only wear investment jeans as I need a long inside leg which is more readily available on more expensive jeans. I have Paige, j brand and current Elliott pairs on the go but the jeans that work best for me are Nobody cult skinnies. The fit is amazing for me (5ft 10 slimmish size 10 in jeans but pear shaped) so probably wouldn't work for you. I buy them in any colour I see on sale unless its totally hideous mustard or something! Go to a specialist retailer when they are quiet and they will find you some jeans that are amazing for you. From then on you can buy more easily from sales, importers etc (I spend only £50-80 ish per pair) but I think you do need that upfront consultancy.

Love J Brand, I'd also try Citizens of Humanity, set up by one of the people from 7 For all Mankind, but I think they fit better.

Love j brand - am currently in gap and next skinnies as the baby weight has been slow to shift Grin and I really notice the difference; the gap ones go baggy unless washed between wears, and the next ones have started to split at the seams!

Back to almost pre-preg weight now so planning to invest in a new pair of j brands in the states in May, yay!
