Make up from the Eighties and Nineties

I've been trying to remember the first make up I used as a teenager in the late eighties and early nineties.

I definitely had Rimmel lipstick but can't remember the brand of foundation. Cover Girl is a possibility but I think there was another, cheaper one I used.

I can remember a cream foundation in a flat grey compact with a clear top. Does it ring any bells with anyone?

Mx factor oanstick and fuzzy peach perfume. Don't know why i was wearing panstick, i had lovely skin.

I remember lots of girls wearing Max Factor pan stick. At 16 and 17 it was madness, young skin doesn't need that heavy makeup but I think options were fairly limited. I don't remember there being a lot of the liquid foundation we have now.

I had forgotten about Coffee Shimmer. I loved that one too.

Does anyone remember that lipstick that was yellow in the tube, and when you put it on it changed to a sort of coral colour? I had that and the bronzing powder they made, I looked like Madge from Benidorm.

Heather Shimmer or Coffee Shimmer with CC lip gloss over the top.

And six colours of eyeshadow all at once.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 16/02/2014 09:04

And lashings of Anais Anais perfume, of course.

Past heather shimmer and black cherry user here. But on the subject of Almay.... Why did it disappear from the shops, even Boots? Now that I'm allergic to so many types of makeup it's a real pain to get hold of. Amazon have it but not the full range. Any other users still out there?

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 16/02/2014 09:13

I know makeup was orange never pale enough. After an influential Face magazine experience I was always in the quest for uber pale foundation. I discovered white powder from Leichner. With red lips and black eyes I must have looked like a clown.

Can anyone help me remember the name of the shampoo that was launched in the mid to late 80s, it was lilac/purple and was supposed to scent your hair too.?? It's driving me crazy trying to remember the name of it.

wildfig · 16/02/2014 09:14

And Le Jardin/Le Jardin d'Amour perfume.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 16/02/2014 09:14

Oh Obsession for me.

fortheloveofmike · 16/02/2014 09:17

Gillybobs I think there was a thread about that recently. I can't remember what it was though, sorry!

purpleminion · 16/02/2014 09:22

Le Jardin!! I had forgotten all about it. I got gift sets of this at Christmas several years running.

I'd love to try all these again. Bet they are grim.

Gosh you are all so young!

In the 80s and 90s I was working as a teacher and then having my kids ( late 80s).

I first used make up in the late 60s- all Rimmel and Miners.

GhettoFabulous · 16/02/2014 09:56

I had the roll on lipgloss, and my first lipstick was Russet in Gold Rimmel, which was a kind of rust with a gold shimmer.

I have trouble doing blusher to this day, as when I was learning how to do makeup it was just two fuchsia streaks on the cheekbones!

Hippychickster · 16/02/2014 09:57

LidlAngel, that lipstick was Ultraglow!! I had the green one that turned bright pink. It lasted for days!

Does anyone remember these makeup cases? I really wanted one (can't imagine why now) but had to settle for something far less flamboyant.

I was a fan of Barry M and had lots of the mini pots of bright coloured loose glittery powder. Was also fond of a lipstick by Avon that was grape coloured and scented, and I wore a lot of Body Shop White Musk.

Other favourites were Sunsilk Eau De Parfum shampoo, Obsession and a perfume called 'New West' , and I was very fond of the Avon perfumes that came in glass bottles such as spaniel dogs and black and white clowns!

Some trendy cousin gave me some little beauty spot stickers that you were supposed to place artfully on your chiselled cheekbones, a la Adam and the Ants. I was about seven. I looked as if I'd fallen face first into my Fuzzy Felt.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/02/2014 11:15

All my make up was Constance CarolGrin lovely tubes of lip gloss with a roller ball applicator, scary coloured eye shadows, spidery mascara and orange foundation.

At high school we all shared the same Heather shimmer or Blondie Rimmel lipstick in the girls' loos, same can of Elnet and we all looked bizarrefabulousGrin
