Make up from the Eighties and Nineties

I've been trying to remember the first make up I used as a teenager in the late eighties and early nineties.

I definitely had Rimmel lipstick but can't remember the brand of foundation. Cover Girl is a possibility but I think there was another, cheaper one I used.

I can remember a cream foundation in a flat grey compact with a clear top. Does it ring any bells with anyone?

Of course I wanted a caboodle. My mum bought me the cheapest b&q toolbox instead. #deprivedchildhoodandineverhadamisterfrostyeither

ClaraFox I used to love New West perfume too! I think Aramis made it. Boots 17 made a perfume for a while called Lemon Drench, it smelled very......lemony, and the talc that they did was sparkly.
There was another 17 lipstick too - like twilight teaser, but brighter, more fuschia pink. I think it had a similar name.

You used to be able to buy eyeshadow from Avon that had 6 shades of pink/purple and a highlighter. So it was essential to wear all 6, drag queen Athena poster style, with a pink blusher, pink shimmer lipstick and BIIIIIG hair.

The result alas was often more Barbara Cartland Sad

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/02/2014 11:41

Oh yes, eye shadows in the 80's were all worn down equally in the paletteGrin

wildfig · 16/02/2014 11:47

Was it the No17 or Rimmel blusher tins that had diagrams in the lids to explain how you were meant to apply the three different shades in equal geometric stripes to create cheekbones? No wonder a generation of women grew up in fear of blusher.

This thread takes me back.
I remember buying frosted pink lipstick from Miss Selfridge.
I also had a Constance Carroll lip gloss that was minty.

HazeltheMcWitch · 16/02/2014 13:52

Did you use the word accentuate a lot ? I did.
I use this shade of blue to accentuate my eyes. Then this shade of blue to countour, this one to highlight.

Then in the 2000's, accentuation was over, and it was all about making features 'pop'.

southeastastra · 16/02/2014 14:18

PenguinsEatSpinach · 16/02/2014 14:19

I had a Saturday job in Woolies and remember their Evette and posher Tu ranges. I was a nerdy convent school kid who wasn't allowed to wear make-up and the cooler, trendy girls from the rough comp hated me even more for being put on the make-up counter after only being there for 3 weeks.

I loved cutex and longlex nail varnish and would paint a nail whenever the counter was quiet.

I had the body shop 'face warming' pan stick type thing in the mid nineties. It smelled like cinnamon and stung your face so you didn't feel as cold in winter. It was very pale white, I believe I looked like a young Elizabeth I while wearing it with my heather shimmer and purple eyeshadow.

PenguinsEatSpinach · 16/02/2014 16:47

That pan stick sounds terrifying Benjamin!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/02/2014 17:43
