Wedge trainers - over?? Yay or nay?

petitdonkey · 22/01/2014 20:23

I have liked the look of wedge trainers for ages and the comfort with style factor really appeals. Most of my time I am a SAHM so try to dress down. (My natural state is overdressed! I love dressing to go out, always have full make-up on and try to keep my hair nice - I'm not great at casual)

So the question I have for you S&B ladies is this; have wedge trainers had their day or have they become a modern classic/staple? I really can't justify Marant prices for something I am so unsure about but am considering these - are they the sort of item that would make you look and think 'oh, SO last year'??

Note: I do realise some people will detest them and lots of people will tell me not to worry what is in fashion and to wear what I like but I do mind about fashion without being slavish to it IYSWIM.

Lots of bloggers still wear theirs currently and I still intend on wearing mine for the foreseeable! They're more flattering on my legs with skinny jeans than flat trainers

petitdonkey · 22/01/2014 20:52

I think you're right MsWinnie - do you mind me asking what your's are like??

(and at 38, am I too old for them???)

They're not quite over but they're getting there. You're not to old though.

burnishedsilver · 22/01/2014 20:56

That should have been too, not to! Stupid swipe keyboard.

AndTwoBits · 22/01/2014 20:58

I have the ash bis bea wedges and love them. Wear them most days with skinny jeans. I literally walk miles in them. Mine aren't going anywhere!

petitdonkey · 22/01/2014 20:59

burnished - That's what I thought, I should have bought them four years ago when I first liked them… I'm slightly loathe to buy them now only to have Grazia scream at me in November that I must not wear them.

Maybe I should order them and try on at home…. I have a sneaking suspicion that they are no me but I so want them to be...

I've got those in Navy and I love them.
I think they're a bit like marmite.
Really comfy and as a pp so much more flattering than flat trainers.

I reckon they'll be a fashion staple or at least I hope so! Everyone I know who has some says there is no going back.....

burnishedsilver · 22/01/2014 21:09

I have wedge desert boots. They have the shape and the comfort of a wedge trainer without being a trainer. I could walk all day in them.

petitdonkey · 22/01/2014 21:10

In my head, I will be this girl…

I'm SO not this girl

OP - these are mine Ash Bowie Multi Wedge Prune

P.s I'm nearly 36

petitdonkey · 22/01/2014 21:12

racmum - I was thinking about the navy as a softer alternative… do you just wear them with jeans? I really can't do jogging pants! (again, not because I don't like the look but I am very curvy and it would look all wrong)

burnished - off to google wedge desert boots...

MsWinnieBaygo · 22/01/2014 21:13

No, no, we are that girl Grin

Have a look at the does my bum look 40 in this style blog - she's 41 and wears them often

petitdonkey · 22/01/2014 21:13

OMG - I really like those, they are bargainous and the only ones they have left are my size…. Do I go for it????

PoshPaula · 22/01/2014 21:15

They are GREAT. I'd wear them. I'm really old.

Whitecat · 22/01/2014 21:18

Stop dithering and buy them.

CheckpointCharlie · 22/01/2014 21:20

I really like them but they are bloody expensive!!!!

I would buy some from a cheaper shop!
You are not too old either.

And, you will definitely look as cool as the lady in the pics. Grin

burnishedsilver · 22/01/2014 21:21

Oooh, that's me in the picture.

Just kidding. Unfortunately.

tethersend · 22/01/2014 21:22

The sartorial elegance of a trainer with all the comfort of a high heel.

Wait. What?

IT'S BACKWARDS.

petitdonkey · 22/01/2014 21:24

God, you lot are terrible… I only came on to ask for advice!!! Duly purchased, will post as soon as they arrive (and wait now for swarms of people to tell me it was a terrible idea to buy them!!)

OP posts:
petitdonkey · 22/01/2014 21:24

tethers Grin - I've made a terrible mistake haven't I??

Bear in mind that my favourite shoe type in the world is Jimmy Choo's Abel, this is somewhat of a departure for me!

OP posts:
CheckpointCharlie · 22/01/2014 21:27

Blimey! I have a fetching silvery grey pair ........ From George at Asda!

Good on you, they are defo cool.

MsWinnieBaygo · 22/01/2014 21:30

Don't worry OP, this is my version of a flat shoe - I normally live in heels. The ones you've ordered look good with both black and blue skinny jeans and are like walking on air whilst still making my legs look thinner Grin

PrimalLass · 22/01/2014 21:30

They are reduced everywhere. Do not pay full price. Try the Ash website.
