Any non traditional mother of the bride outfits around?

My lovely cousin is tearing her hair out. Wedding is in May. Is it too early too look. She's small, size 10, artistic and quite quirky. She likes vintage but hates her cankles so nothing knee length. Any ideas where to look?

How old is she Lighthouse?

YoMamma · 16/01/2014 19:18

My mum (late 40s, petite hourglass figure) wore a fuchsia DVF body con shift dress with zips up the sides. The dress was quite plain so she wore a MASSIVE hat which she had custom made from here. I think she must also have had some sort of jacket but I can't remember it and it was quite warm on the day so the jacket doesn't seem to have made it on to any of the photographs. I think in the evening she replaced the hat with a statement necklace. She was quite keen to avoid the match-matchy satin dress and shrug 'mother-of-the-bride' outfits.

So, am I right in thinking she's after full length? Confused

Lighthousekeeping · 16/01/2014 19:25

She's the same age as Madonna, whatever that might be! Grin very dark hair and green eyes. She doesn't do tight fitting things so much even though she has a great figure. She's quite shy but loves ott costume accessories.

this is rather lovely

Lighthousekeeping · 16/01/2014 19:38

It's beautiful. She's only 5 3 though so I'm not sure if it will be too much. The colour is very her. Mind you she said she might fancy pastels for a change.

Trouser suit?

Lighthousekeeping · 16/01/2014 20:06

I've never seen her in trousers since she used to follow David Cassidy around!

Maybe she should have something made. That way she could have exactly the style she likes, scaled to suit her height.

Lighthousekeeping · 17/01/2014 10:52

She is thinking about getting one made.

Anthropologie do some really lovely pieces and some quirky stuff as well so it would suit your cousin. Not the best time to look as the S/S range hasn't started to come in yet though. www.anthropologie.eu/anthro/category/dresses/clothing-dresses.jsp?cm_sp=TOPNAV--CLOTHING--CLOTHING-DRESSES&cm_re=TOPNAV--CLOTHING--CLOTHING-DRESSES

Lighthousekeeping · 18/01/2014 13:29

Pagwatch · 18/01/2014 14:46

Ghosts fabrics are horrible IMHO

tethersend · 18/01/2014 14:55

Ohh, if she's a ten she should get my current favourite dress

Pagwatch · 18/01/2014 14:58

Ooooh, I like that Tethers
I have an Issa dress but the cuts crap on me now I am sporting the arse of a moose.

tethersend · 18/01/2014 15:11

I want it to get married in, Pag. But there is no way I'm going to be a size 10 Grin

Pagwatch · 18/01/2014 15:13
Grin

It's the age old dress vs bun dilemma.

tethersend · 18/01/2014 15:19

Maybe I could buy two and stitch them together Grin

MrsCampbellBlack · 18/01/2014 15:30

Tethers are you getting married?

I think actually its still a bit early to be shopping for a May wedding - there's still sales dregs everywhere. Give it another 4-6 weeks and she'll have a lot more choice.

I wonder if she'd like Alice Temperley stuff or any of her diffusion lines.

Lighthousekeeping · 18/01/2014 15:48

www.ghost.co.uk/occasion-wear/aaliyah-dress-sea-green.html?color=271 that kind of thing

OP posts:
tethersend · 18/01/2014 15:55

That's nice, but maybe a bit bridal?

I suppose it depends what the bride's dress is like...

And yes Mrs CB, after years of me resisting it, I think I am Grin

Lighthousekeeping · 18/01/2014 15:58

The bride will be married in a "proper" wedding dress trust me. Mother and daughter do not have the same tastes in clothes.
