Any non traditional mother of the bride outfits around?

My lovely cousin is tearing her hair out. Wedding is in May. Is it too early too look. She's small, size 10, artistic and quite quirky. She likes vintage but hates her cankles so nothing knee length. Any ideas where to look?

Oooooh Tethers. How exciting!

MrsCampbellBlack · 18/01/2014 16:07

The ghost dress is very very dressy/eveningy - more the type of thing a bridesmaid would wear.

I'm not sure about full length unless its a black tie wedding really.

Tethers - oooh we need a wedding dress thread. When is it going to be?

Lighthousekeeping · 18/01/2014 16:15

She hates her legs and only ever wears longs things. Every day.

Sorry for hijack, lighthouse- I did a wedding dress thread a while back, Mrs CB- the consensus was to get one made Grin

lurkingaround · 18/01/2014 16:24

Cough cough and tethers, are you getting it made? or will we watch out for a panic dress search thread? Congrats, btw.

lurkingaround · 18/01/2014 16:25

Apologies OP, don't mean to divert the thread.

MrsCampbellBlack · 18/01/2014 17:41

You see I miss everything now I've got a bloody job Wink

Oh Tethers, we could have had a little s&b shopping trip to find the perfect dress. I'd be careful about getting one made unless its the next undiscovered chanel [recalls hideous bridesmaid dress made specially]

lurkingaround · 18/01/2014 19:10

Oh yes MrsCB, work is a right nuisance for getting in the way.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 18/01/2014 19:11

What about a full length sequinned skirt? Simple satin camis top tucked in, with a little shrug/cropped jacket over?

MyNameIsKenAdams · 18/01/2014 19:12

Like this, with something iver her arms

MrsCampbellBlack · 18/01/2014 19:15

It is lurking. Honestly the hours I put into s&b, get a job (albeit part-time) and now I miss everything. Well apart from the chanel bag thread - I wonder if sugarhut liked them Wink

Earthymama · 18/01/2014 19:28

It all depends on her style doesn't it? There is nothing worse that shoehorning yourself into someone else's preconceived ideas!

For my son's wedding and for my CP I wore layers of velvet and linen, with petticoats in earthy tones.

like this only much cheaper

Not everyone's ideal style but sufficiently dressy without doing the dress and jacket in pastels that I would really, really not be able to wear.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 18/01/2014 19:31

Very Helena-B-C, I like!

lurkingaround · 18/01/2014 19:49

yes! it's all ho-hum for hours, days even, then I go to work and bam all hell breaks loose.

2nd apologies OP for interrupting thread. Terrible habit, diverting chat on a thread. I will stop.

tethersend · 18/01/2014 20:23

What? Chanel bag thread? WhadidImiss?

Do we need to start an S&B gossip thread and leave poor Lighthouse alone?

lurkingaround · 18/01/2014 20:27

Yes tethers, great idea, we need a gossip thread for all who miss Important Threads! The Chanel bag one was erm, fun. I saw the beginning, went to bed, then work, and sheesh, I missed it all!

MrsCampbellBlack · 18/01/2014 20:34

The chanel bag thread was mad and sad and bad.

DontmindifIdo · 18/01/2014 20:36

Does she want her arms covered or not? Because long with sleeves is limiting... Sad

Also, any colours out? (not wanting to clash with bridesmaids, doesn't suit her etc)

DontmindifIdo · 18/01/2014 20:38

I quite like this from phase eight but it's not that unusual...

DontmindifIdo · 18/01/2014 20:47

And I like this one but it'll be hard to shorten given the detail at the bottom.

this might be easier to alter

this is nice but might be hard to find a cover up for the top given the detailing.

googlenut · 18/01/2014 21:10

All
For mother of the bride wearing something different - but surely you can't go long. Bride and bridesmaids only wear long!

PrimalLass · 18/01/2014 21:39

Surely not? What's wrong with a guest wearing a maxi dress?

Lighthousekeeping · 18/01/2014 21:42

The bridesmaids are in knee length prom style coast dresses. In pale blue.

OP posts:
WowserBowser · 18/01/2014 21:55

I like Ken's idea ^^

googlenut · 19/01/2014 08:26

No problem with guest going long but mother of the bride will be in photos and will just look wrong if only her and the bride are in long.
