In my defence:

I've bought some new wellies (hooray) mid-calf length, mainly to walk down the garden so I need them to go off and on quickly (which is why I didn't buy full length)

I put a memory insole in (they were a bit roomy but the size below was too snug) so nice and cushioned but the top of them is gapey.
I can't put welly socks in with the insole., but I thought mmmm, legwarmer thingies would do

I only need them if I;m going to do a lot of walking, otherwise my shins would get rubbed
Where do I look for such a thing without looking like the total 80s throwback that I am?

hillbilly · 10/01/2014 11:44

Legwarmers rock. I wear them with my suede lace up shoe boots and either jeans or tights and skirt.

dexter73 · 10/01/2014 11:45

You could also try welly toppers like these or these. If you google welly toppers you will find loads.

NorbertDentressangle · 10/01/2014 11:46

Last winter a lot of places seemed to sell 'boot toppers' which are basically a sort of leg warmer to fill that gap at the top of the boot and to look nice.

They might work well as they won't be as long as leg warmers. Plus you won't sound so 80s when you ask in a shop if they stock them! Wink

Not sure where you can get them though?

Portia4 · 10/01/2014 11:49

Dance wear shops stock legwarmers 70i !

MissBeehiving · 10/01/2014 11:54

I loved my legwarmers. Especially the neon ones Grin Are they on trend again? How do you wear them stylishly if you are 40ish?

Doearwigsmakechutney · 10/01/2014 11:55

You could try these ones Falke legwarmers I've got Falke socks and they are gorgeously warm and well-wearing

Tobermory · 10/01/2014 12:08

MissBeehiving ….hopeful too.

Though google leg warmers and a disturbing number of images like this…Legwarmers with heels!

auldspinster · 10/01/2014 12:31

Primark do legwarmers, their long socks are good too.

bettybleep · 10/01/2014 12:41

I got mine in h&m £7.99

Hopefully · 10/01/2014 12:52

I wear mine under my DM triumph 1914s, got a couple of pairs of legwarmers in the Toast sale last year.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/01/2014 15:15
Thanks I need the leg part without the foot bit IYSWIM, it would make them too tight in the foot area (I can't be taking out my memory insoles, 'tis heavenly Grin )

I used to wear red legwarmers in the 1980s (bit like those in Tobermorys picture (so I cannot wear them this time round )

Welly Toppers- that's what I'm after. Sort of like a 'cuff' to go round the edge.
I won't look like a divvy asking for Welly Toppers unlike legwarmers where the shop saleswoman would have the theme from FAME earworm it's way into her brain

I have lovely legwarmers/boot toppers made by felting a wool cardigan. Use the front two sides: you can just cut them off and sew into cylinders (cut off buttons) after felting by hot-washing in machine. If you get a patterned wool cardigan you can get truly classy legwarmers (if such a thing exists).

DavenotChas · 10/01/2014 16:29

Claire's accessories have got them for £5.50 if you don't mind neon...

BitchyFestiveFace · 10/01/2014 16:32

I have these and wear them all the time.

starsandunicorns · 10/01/2014 16:36

I wear leg warmers that have pom poms at the top I wore them when doing nights to keep my legs warm I also have brown ones I wear under my trousers at work as it gets cold

Purplemonster · 10/01/2014 16:38

I've got a lovely grey pair of Elle leg warmers that I wear with boots, they've got angora in them so are super soft. I'm pretty sure I got them from house of Fraser.

burnishedsilver · 10/01/2014 19:19

I found myself looking at legwarmers in Primark recently and seriously considering them.....grey chunky cable knit....they looked to cosy.

AmberNectarine · 10/01/2014 19:45

I quite fancy a pair and I have no legitimate reason such as yourself!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/01/2014 20:01

I love mine and have several pairs. I use them to fill in the gap between my skinny ankles and ankle boots. House of Fraser often have them - my latest pair are grey cable knit angora-esque ones made by Elle.

MissBeehiving · 10/01/2014 20:06
