I just seem to have drawn a complete blank about where to shop once out of the Startrite/Clarks phase but not wanting to go down the tarty/scruffy route?

Brogue style shoes from Clarkes I think (their teen range??)

DD is 14 BTW

anniepanniepears · 05/01/2014 20:09

dr martains patent ,I even bought my self a pair

moondog · 05/01/2014 20:11

Clarks seemed a little twee for her. She is tall, 5 7. (Although I think they are great shoes.)

I was thinking Doc Martens. Was in their shop yesterday and liked their stuff very much. Is it cool? Not that I care desperately but would like her to have something fairly near the mark. (I'll never forget my delight over owning a pair of Dinos, circa 1982.)

My dd wore brogues from Shoe Zone. (She is now in 6th form)

ErrolTheDragon · 05/01/2014 20:13

My yr 10 DD had these clarkes brogues last year and [[http://www.clarks.co.uk/p/20354824 these (with a very slight wedge heel, which she loves because she's short) this year.

Shesparkles · 05/01/2014 20:15

My 16 year old has patent doc boots that she's been wearing for a couple of years, but this year you could have knocked me down with a feather when she asked for these ones www.clarks.co.uk/p/20349082, but in black patent! I didn't think I'd ever get her into Clark's shoes voluntarily! Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 05/01/2014 20:15

x-post - DD lives in her Docs out of school, but boots aren't allowed in their uniform code.

I get the impression that docs are the norm out of school (canvas high tops in summer), and brogues in school.

dexter73 · 05/01/2014 20:15

What is their school uniform policy like? DM's wouldn't have been allowed at my dd's school.

RhondaJean · 05/01/2014 20:17

Plain black doc marten classic boots.

moondog · 05/01/2014 20:17

Hmmm. I see more now on Clarks website than just the Maryjanes.
I like these. Wonder if she will?

Some blowfish ones, come to ankle and are reslly comfortable. (Im wearing them atm)

ErrolTheDragon · 05/01/2014 20:21

That's the sort of thing ... surely your DD knows whether girls at her school mostly wear brogues, docs or whatever?

moondog · 05/01/2014 20:26

Yes, but she is supremely unconcerned with footwear and happy to wear her old ones (which her father is lovingly polishing) but I feel it's time for a change.

OP posts:
moondog · 05/01/2014 20:27

Don't think boots are allowed though. Will chack.
Doesn't it get exhausting, doing all of that lacing?

Mine isn't a teen (11.6) but she wear leather Vans.
We were having The Conversation about what she was going to wear to school in the snow.

glammanana · 05/01/2014 20:47

My grandaughter has been wearing Maryjanes for the past year and most of the girls at school have them in either leather or patient its a pity they aren't allowed DM's as there are some fab patient boots about at good prices, got her a red patient pair for just £38.00 last week pity school shoes weren't on sale.

Mine wear anything black that they think they can get away with. Black Chelsea boots which cost a fortune or black ballet pumps from Primark which are v cheap.
I don't mind really, when they first started secondary school I insisted on v smart school shoes, but now they are older as long as they are clean and tidy it's up to them.
My youngest who is 16 has been known to go to school in her black skinny jeans rather than school trousers, not sure how she gets away with that.

Kickers

moondog · 05/01/2014 21:10

Yes, was thinking of Kickers too! Saw some yesterday as well.

OP posts:
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/01/2014 21:10

I bought DD a pair of black lace-up Kickers- her choice and she wanted the shiney patent finish.

Had a look to see if they still fit her for this year (unlikely but hopeful) but the patent finish had blistered where the upper had creased.

I knew she;d grow out of them in less than a year but I was Hmm - they were £75. Wouldn't buy them again.

Whitecat · 05/01/2014 21:52

I remember Dinos Moondog. They were lovely.

moondog · 05/01/2014 22:17

Do you? I tried to find a pair on Google Images to no avail.
Remember that little tag? So important. Couldn't believe my luck when my mother got me a pair. Thanks for all ideas ladies. Smile
Plenty to set me off.
