I just seem to have drawn a complete blank about where to shop once out of the Startrite/Clarks phase but not wanting to go down the tarty/scruffy route?

Kickers, last year ankle boots this year shoes, both patent with laces. They last really well.

Cocolepew · 05/01/2014 22:24

Completely black, leather Converse.

A bit of an aside but I don't understand why schools would ban docs, they are sensible and practical, good for all weathers, supportive for feet and ankles, don't crush growing toes, are comfortable so girls are more able to concentrate on their learning and not their bunions..,

I can understand them not wanting the red patent ones worn but that would be covered by saying plain black shoes or boots only in a uniform policy, there has been occasional rumbles about a ban starting at DDs school but it's one of the things I would take them on head on about as I cannot think of one good reason why they wouldn't be ideal school shoes.

DMs are back.
Love them.

would you want to be a teacher in a corridor full of stampeding teenagers hurrying to their next lesson in DMS? Grin

I wish I had seen this earlier. I have spent a despairing 2 hours school shoe shopping today. DD is very fussy. Sigh.

Clarks did not have brogues in her size. We ended up getting a temporary pair of non leather brogues from New Look for just £6 (sale).

Not ideal but at least it gives us a few weeks to hunt down something acceptable to both of us.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/01/2014 23:07

You have to buy winter shoes such as Clarkes brogues early in the summer holiday. Surely anyone with a teen should know this by now? (yes, I know its ridiculous!)

CaroBeaner · 05/01/2014 23:08

The leather Kickers have been indestructible in our household. Soles and uppers lasting really well, sturdy in wet and cold weather, etc.

CointreauVersial · 06/01/2014 00:13

DD1 wears Clarks lace-ups.

Not quite brogues; a little bit less chunky.

She's happy enough; I'm happy for her to stay in Clarks shoes for as long as possible, as they are hard wearing.

NoComet · 06/01/2014 00:26

DD2(12) Clarks brogues
DD1(15) some Ks pumps very like these but I think her's are flatter

RhondaJean · 06/01/2014 07:31

I'd rather stampeding dms than stampeding heels, which are also common.

Anyway that's a crowd control issue, if they can't stop the children stampeding and get them to walk in a relatively orderly fashion!

MissScatterbrain · 06/01/2014 11:18

DD is petite so cannot carry off DMs - currently wears loafers. We avoid ballet pumps as these are not supportive enough for her and she hates brogues and mary janes.

School shoe shopping is a lot of fun as you can tell Hmm

NoComet · 06/01/2014 11:28

DMs aren't stompy, they are quite soft soles.

I wish the girls could wear ankle boots with their black trousers, just like 1000's of women do to the office everyday. They would be massively more sensible on wet days.

iheartdusty · 06/01/2014 21:06

doc martens here, regarded as very cool

iheartdusty · 06/01/2014 21:07

they are dm shoes not boots.

we tried the black leather converse, school said they were trainers and banned them.
