I've been looking at pictures of face contouring on Pinterest. What is the darker contour make up?

Bronzer and highlighter?

Jenda · 30/12/2013 20:55

Bronzer usually, non sparkly Smile Smile

Cocolepew · 30/12/2013 20:57

Thanks. It looks very complicated Shock

I know my face would look dipped in mud if i started that carry on Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 30/12/2013 21:17

Depends on your skin tone - if you are cool toned (pink based) then bronzer won't work. Something like Illamasqua cream pigment in hollow works in that case

You don't have to do the whole lot - just doing the cheekbones helps hugely.

Cocolepew · 30/12/2013 21:20

I think I'll just suck my cheeks in.

I saw a tutorial on eBay and it said foundation several shades darker than your skin. I think bronzed looks mucky unless you are already olive skinned so I'm going to try foundation (with a very cheap foundation in case I look totally ridiculous).

Curioustiger · 30/12/2013 22:42

YouTube not eBay!

Curioustiger · 30/12/2013 22:43

And bronzer not bronzed. Stupid phone.

Sorry phone went a bit made there. Why are you bothered? Just spent several mins watching Wayne Goss demonstrate this; I honestly couldn't be arsed with it.
But crack on Grin.

Cocolepew · 31/12/2013 08:37

I'm not Grin. I couldn't be arsed with all that palaver, I was just wondering after seeing the pictures.

I have deepset eyes and high cheekbones; if I add any more contours I'll end up looking like a screaming skull!

HelloBoys · 31/12/2013 14:52

I've actually spoken to a few SA/MA people and they say in the whole don't bother re face contouring!

I had someone in Debenhams (Helene E brand?) do this to me and sell me the kit and guess what?! It stayed in the drawer a year before I ditched it. Way too complex.

Curioustiger · 31/12/2013 14:54

I'm going to try it tonight. I will time it!

Cocolepew · 31/12/2013 14:56

The time will only count if you look beeutiful afterwards. Not looking like you've been crayoned on Grin

I use v dark foundation. So normal foundation lightly applied, contour with dark foundation and a highlighter/concealer pen and blend. Doesn't take me long but I've been doing it for a good while. I don't think I look crayoned on. The truck is blending. I use high beam as extra highlighter if I'm going out for a dewy look.

ThePigOfHappiness · 31/12/2013 14:59

Eat that would be trick is blending!

AntoinetteCosway · 31/12/2013 15:10

You can use any product that works for your skin. Even an eyeshadow! Whether you use a cream or powder depends on your skin and to an extent on what other make up you're wearing. Trick is to make sure the colour is right-anything remotely red/orange will look weird and lots of bronzers do have red in them, so you have to be careful. Really you want something which has a hint of grey about it. Illamasqua Hollow is fab, and a while ago Chanel did a contouring powder that I think might have been limited edition sadly, but it was very grey and worked beautifully on pale people like me!

Cocolepew · 31/12/2013 15:16

Curioustiger we also need before, during and after photos.

OP posts:
Curioustiger · 31/12/2013 15:19

Ha! I will take them. We'll see about posting! What should I use for the lightening bits? Here is what I have so far

  • normal foundation
  • cheap dark foundation
  • pink blusher
  • concealer but I think it is my normal skin tone
  • benefit highbeam
  • white eyeshadow?

I was thinking about mixing the high beam and the concealer. Don't mind a bit of sparkle as it's NYE. Anyway if its a disaster I will just wash it off!

Curioustiger · 31/12/2013 15:21

Oh also setting powder.

ThePigOfHappiness · 31/12/2013 15:37

There was a great video posted here that showed step by step. Easier than a picture I felt. I would use white to highlight and then dab high beam over when it was finished iiwy

Curioustiger · 31/12/2013 15:39

Ok! Will give it a go! Was the video? She seemed sensible so I am following her instructions.
