Santa is bringing a bag - zatchel? Victorian lace?

It's the last year my boys will all believe in FC. They have asked for a handbag for mummy. I'm really tempted to get a zatchel with 'love from Santa' personalised inside. I love Victorian lace. But, it's 142 quid. That's my whole budget for me. (saved like mad for Xmas). But it would be cool if it's not crappy. Any ideas?

I also love zatchel bags and am tempted to get one. However, my budget is similar to yours so I'm planning on getting a classic one which I know will last me for years. I think very patterned or 'statement' bags can date quickly or I would just get bored of it once all my friends had seen it at least once, whereas a classic one would be more useful in the long run. Just my opinion though, hope you enjoy it whatever you decide!

cartoontrickster · 19/12/2013 20:41

there was a thread on zatchels a bit back. I have one, but like most find it a bit impractical. the edges are very hard and do hurt when the bag bangs against you while walking. also the buckles are fiddly. I think I saw that they now do quick release fastenings which would be better.
having said that I do love them and think that a satchel bag is quite classic. if you want a funky colour or pattern and will always love it then go for it. mines metallic blue Smile

Such a shame as the Victorian lace collection had 40% off last week which would have made a big difference to your budget. This week the candy collection have 40% off here

They strike me as a nice company. If you don't like the candy ones maybe ring and explain the circumstances and see if they'll apply the discount for a lacy one retrospectively.

FracturedViewOfLife · 19/12/2013 20:53

I agree with Listen, I prefer the classic colours (have a tan one) but thats just personal preference. I have just had a look and you can get quick release buckles now jealous.

I say go for it Smile

God you lot are good. Maybe I could email and say that, worth a try. Grin
I get what you mean about patterns, I'm slightly worried that it will annoy me after a while.

I love my Zatchels too - I got 4 in the massive sale they had - x 2 satchels, a barrel and a saddle bag. Definitely go for classics in the satchel style,

TinyDiamond · 19/12/2013 23:39

Where do you live? Their head office is in my city and there is a factory shop. Up to 60% off...

Nerfmother · 19/12/2013 23:43

Really? I'm in Kent.
Jealous of four zatchels!

Ah. That is very far from Leicester then. Sorry.

Nerfmother · 20/12/2013 10:07

I've emailed but no reply yet (asking for a cheeky discount as suggested) but, BANK fashion have them half price. (not lace) But, wouldn't be personalised. Argh.

TinyDiamond · 20/12/2013 10:14

you could get it engraved at a shoe repairers or something?

Nerfmother · 20/12/2013 10:39

Yes, good thinking. Would save approx 60 quid.

Ok, no discount available and I really don't like the candy ones. What are the normal ones like? I only really like the zatchels or is there anywhere else to get something personalised? Cambridge satchel company?

TinyDiamond · 20/12/2013 13:08

Nerfmother · 20/12/2013 13:43

Thanks. Clearly I am a week too late

Santa is bringing me a red one and because I am picky and wanted to be sure I'd like it I've already had a look and am now storing it for DH Santa in my wardrobe - who said romance was dead?! Anyway it's beautiful, really well made and a classic design. I can see me using it for years whereas I'd probably get bored of a patterned one quite quickly.

CambridgeBlue · 20/12/2013 13:47

PS when I was debating whether to get one somebody very kindly posted a 25% off code on here. I'd be surprised if it still works but maybe worth a try? ZAT25-XXGH-8876

FracturedViewOfLife · 20/12/2013 14:47

I have Cambridge Satchel and a Zatchel. I prefer my CS a tiny bit but I think that is because it is red and it was my first one so it is softer now.

You can't personalise the inside on a CS though only the outside so if you got one you would have to get it engraved elsewhere anyway.

FracturedViewOfLife · 20/12/2013 14:49

I hope the code above works for you Smile

Nerfmother · 20/12/2013 15:01

I love style and beauty. It's all warm and safe. And friendly. Red is really tempting as is grey and denim...

Have a look at scaramanga. Their bags are lovely (although mostly more classic) and they are really quick at delivering.

Nerfmother · 20/12/2013 17:55

Thank you, am going to look when kids in bed. Can't order anything with them hovering!

FracturedViewOfLife · 20/12/2013 18:02

I tried using the code CambridgeBlue posted and it gave me 25% off.

Nerfmother · 20/12/2013 18:12

Oooh thank you. Think it is bedtime soon they are very tired Grin
