Anyone else love brown clothes but can't find them anywhere?

I have auburn hair, fair skin and freckles. Much as I think black looks great on other people it doesn't really suit me. I look ten times better in brown and a few years back I could find cords, cashmere jumpers and cardigans etc quite easily.

This year - and last year - there seems to be none of it around at all Sad Anyone else feel the same and maybe has had more luck than me?

Benetton also often have brown (I have a chocolate brown wool sweater from there)

Floisme · 29/11/2013 07:04

Chocolate brown is way more flattering than black. On lots of people.
The end.
(I'm afraid I have no suggestions though, I haven't seen it at all in the shops recently.)

Kettle well sell clothes by colour - you'll find lots of brown

Just to say that I'm the same OP - red hair, brown eyes, fair skin - I LIVE in brown, and actually don't own any black. I agree that it's been more difficult recently. What are you after? Woolovers are really good and have most styles in brown...

Don't get me started on finding brown or black/brown mascara (I look like an Eastenders 1980s landlady in black)... I buy mine from ebay or Amazon now...

knitknack · 29/11/2013 12:24

ETA: This time of year I wear brown boots with brown tights a lot - then have toning skirts and tops. I buy Falke tights from mytights.co.uk

AngelaDaviesHair · 29/11/2013 12:25

Peruvian Connection always have some nice brownish jumpers and things. Sale on at the mo. Also Banana Republic.

bishboschone · 29/11/2013 12:31

I'm blonde with the same colouring . I can't wear black either . However brown is a horrible colour .. I wear a lot of blue as I have blue eyes . Would that work?

bishboschone · 29/11/2013 12:32

I'm sure I have seen caramel brown jumpers and brown cords around this season though .

Hullygully · 29/11/2013 12:37

I like brown too

Floisme · 29/11/2013 12:45

I'm also blonde with blue eyes and people often tell me I would look good in blue but I don't (apart from teal and sometimes, indigo). Weird isn't it? Anyway back to brown: my favourite shade is a really bitter chocolate - almost black but much more forgiving. If anyone has seen that recently, please shout!

TheSurgeonsMate · 29/11/2013 12:46

I was raised to wear brown, and it remains my favourite colour. I can walk around a whole shop without really seeing the stuff until I get to the brown things, and my heart just says "Here's the clothes here!" They just look like clothes to me in a way that coloured things don't. Confused Sad to hear about this season's lack of brown.

GeorginaWorsley · 29/11/2013 13:22

Have made this very point on the Autumn thread.
Trinnny and Susannah were big fans of brown on the early noughties.
I love green too, leafy greens especially.
Jigsaw and Toast good fir these sometimes, plus White Stuff and Fat Face if you like their style.
Boden used to have more chocolate and greens than they do now.

JohnSnowsTie · 29/11/2013 13:23

knit Max Factor Masterpiece Max comes in black/brown. I often pick it up by mistake as the packaging is exactly the same as the black. Angry

Another fan of brown here - definitely looks better than black on me.

ProtectiveMother · 29/11/2013 13:23

I've always wanted a plain brown shift dress

BikeRunSki · 29/11/2013 16:09

Sainsbury's is full of brown cords at the moment.

AngelaDaviesHair · 29/11/2013 16:37

Kew might be an option.

GeorginaWorsley · 29/11/2013 19:50

Kew doesn't exist anymore does it?

SwedishEdith · 29/11/2013 20:09

Oh, I love brown- much more flattering than black. I had lovely knitted dress fron Uniqlo that I loved. Unfortunately, so did the moths Sad

MillyRules · 29/11/2013 20:14

I look great in brown, I have light golden blond hair, dark green eyes, warm skin and freckles. Brown complements all this. I use ebay a lot.

BlueStones · 29/11/2013 21:17

Uniqlo have some brown long-sleeved T-shirt type things in brown, and a few other tops.

I'm with you, OP: brown is easily my best colour, but it's not easy to find.

CointreauVersial · 29/11/2013 22:07

Spotted a few pairs of brown trousers in Mango today.....

oscarwilde · 29/11/2013 22:14

If money's no object head to Max Mara Grin

highlandcoo · 30/11/2013 00:57

Some great ideas here .. thank you !!

I'd forgotten about kettlewell - thanks for reminding me charitygirl Unfortunately at the moment they are out of most things in Small in chocolate brown, but worth remembering for the future.

knitknack thank you SO much for the advice about Woolovers. I've just ordered a cardigan and a crew-neck jumper in chocolate brown .. having trailed around London searching for these basics for weeks .. fantastic!

Will investigate Peruvian Connection and other recommendations asap.
Thanks to ADH and others for great advice.

There quite a few of us brown-lovers around Smile I think the manufacturers should be paying us more attention.

"I can't imagine anyone looking good in brown tbh."

On warm-toned people it is one of the best colours, and brown comes in many shades. Don't think of school uniforms!
