Opinions on this dress for night out with the girls

LostMarbles99 · 12/11/2013 19:21

Ok I haven't been out with the girls since ds was born 9 months ago, it's all I can do to get to the cinema with dh!

Am 34 size 10, average height, 5' 6"

What do you think of this dress for our annual Christmas dinner and dancing night?

Want to look decent!

eurochick It's a bit rich accusing Vikki of being catty when other posters slated her dress is such a bitchy way first Hmm

While it's not my taste, I'd still wear Vikki's dress before OP's in a heartbeat.

I'd rather stand out and look smoking hot in a "tarty" dress than blend into the background in a safe and frumpy work dress.

FauxFox · 13/11/2013 17:30

Don't listen Vikki if you feel good in it, wear it! It's not a million miles away from a Herve Leger design so hardly "an eye-sore" Hmm If it's not to some poster's taste fair enough but you've not asked them to wear it (or even asked for opinions!) so ignore, ignore Grin

Oh and I bet you have a fabulous night out too!

noddyholder · 13/11/2013 17:33

I didn't realise the pink dress was someones choice I thought it was a suggestion for OP. Sorry I should have read it properly. As someone else said each to their own

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 13/11/2013 17:42

I love the pink RI one and it is perfectly appropriate for an Xmas work do. (And I am well old so ner)

I would put a lot of the dresses here into 'workwear' - the lacy coast one and the second link (asymmetric) that Vikki linked to are the most appropriate. I just can't see myself dancing in the Rivi dress OP - it would need to be stretchier & shorter.

Also agree with whoever said separates (funky skirt, pretty top) would be a better investment and more on trend.

Vikki88 · 13/11/2013 17:47

Thank you BunnyLebowski and FauxFox. Smile I love it and it looks fab on so that's all that matters really. And yeah, it'll be a fab night - can't wait! Wine Grin

Springthorn it does look beauts in red, in an ideal world I'd have bought that too but can't really justify buying 2 new dresses with Christmas around the corner! If anyone wants to justify it to me though, they're more than welcome... Wink

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/11/2013 19:20

A pencil skirt and a silk t-shirt would be nice.

Vikki88 · 15/11/2013 17:12

I was just looking through the RI website today and noticed, to my utter horror, that they're the selling the pink dress I bought at half price now. If only I'd waited a few days - so frustrating! Angry

Hopasholic · 15/11/2013 17:41

When do you need to wear it vikki?

Buy it again and send yours back for a full refund if you have time.

Vikki88 · 15/11/2013 19:00

I don't need it until next month Hopasholic, but I've already cut out price tags & got it hanging in my wardrobe so not sure if it's an option? If I can find the receipt it might be worth trying.

isitnormal · 15/11/2013 19:05

Sorry to be blunt, but definitely send the pink RI dress back (IMO it looks like a stripper's dress - that's why it's reduced) and spend your money on something classier.

Hopasholic · 15/11/2013 19:19

Buy the sale one on-line, it will have the full price tag on IME but take it back to store with your original receipt (if you can find it) If you've not worn it, I don't see a problem doing that.

I've taken stuff back, unworn but after I've taken tags off before and it's been fine so give that a go first if you find the receipt.

Pinupgirl · 15/11/2013 19:27

Sorry op but I don't like it-its too staid and imo a bit too old for you at only 34.

I know I will get flamed for recommending retro stuff againHmm bit someone mentioned the Pretty dress company? I would have a look on there and can also recommend Deadly is the female or Collectif for killer party dresses.

Vikki88 · 15/11/2013 19:29

Thanks Hopasholic, I like the way you think! I'll give that a go when I've got time - should be able to find the receipt.

isitnormal · 15/11/2013 19:35

I just googled the Pretty Dress Company as I've never heard of it before - there's some real classic "can't go wrong" dresses on there which I imagine would be very flattering and are chic without being frumpy. Might get one for myself...
