Opinions on this dress for night out with the girls

LostMarbles99 · 12/11/2013 19:21

Ok I haven't been out with the girls since ds was born 9 months ago, it's all I can do to get to the cinema with dh!

Am 34 size 10, average height, 5' 6"

What do you think of this dress for our annual Christmas dinner and dancing night?

Want to look decent!

I think they are all nice - but it's personal taste. You are a great height and size so will look fab in any of them. I always go with what I know I will feel comfortable in - not track suit style comfort but I mean not something that I will be pulling down / adjusting all night etc.

I have now been onto Coast and found my outfit for my work Xmas do - m.coast-stores.com/staten-dress/dresses/coast/fcp-product/2224833480

Personally I'd find that dress a little bit frumpy for a Christmas girls night out.

I just bought this dress today with my girls Christmas party night in mind.

Great dress LostMArbles.

bigbrick · 13/11/2013 00:20

A short black fluffy cardi and some black suede wedges to complete the look.

HelloBoys · 13/11/2013 09:46

I'd wear the Tribeca or plain Coast dress (black)

HelloBoys · 13/11/2013 09:49

What I would do is get a nice black floral satin-y skirt (Ted Baker and Oasis had some). get a gorgeous top to go with it, THEN you have some great separates you can dress up and down all over the festive season rather than one dress you'd get bored with (well I would).

ProtectiveMother · 13/11/2013 10:03

The Rivi dress isn't frumpy girls. It's far from it. The long sleeves are nice. Just because its a night out doesn't mean you have to wear something that exposes every part of your skin. I think it's laid back chic. Understated. Trust what you like. If youve tried it on and it's great, get it. :-)

ProtectiveMother · 13/11/2013 10:04

Personally I really dislike that polyester River island one. Just my opinion!

ProtectiveMother · 13/11/2013 10:05

I do think that the Pretty Dress Company has gorgeous stuff if you're paying around £100 anyway...

springthorn · 13/11/2013 10:15

I'm 34 too. When I saw the dress from the front, I thought I might consider wearing the first dress to work, but not on a night out. Then I saw blue zip on the back and it completely ruined it for me, I'm afraid. Not a fan of exposed zips, especially brightly coloured ones.

noddyholder · 13/11/2013 10:17

I really like it I have 2 friends who have it and they are really stylish. Love the pattern and colour and the zip.

Timetoask · 13/11/2013 10:27

Not for a night out. For that amount of money you could get something much nicer from phase eight (20% discount right now)

springthorn · 13/11/2013 10:44

Have to agree with ProtectiveMother, that bright pink River Island one is an eyesore.

noddyholder · 13/11/2013 11:04

No don't go for the River Island one a bit tarty

FauxFox · 13/11/2013 12:04

butterflies
snakey
lace
sequin

springthorn · 13/11/2013 12:40

All those Oasis dresses are affordable and I love the butterfly one. Wouldn't work for me though as I find higher necks look awful with my large boobs.

Vikki88 · 13/11/2013 13:44

So I'm going to look like a tarty eyesore? Thanks. I'll assume it's an age thing. Confused If I'm honest, it was a 50/50 for me between what I went for and this one. With it being a party night out though, and especially at Christmas, I went for the more fun one.

Vikki88 · 13/11/2013 13:50

I really like the first two from FauxFox's list. They're a bit less stodgy than the original dress (IMO) but still understated, classy etc.

eurochick · 13/11/2013 13:55

I have the Tribeca. I was looking for something more glam but fell in love with it so bought it anyway! Now I just need an occasion to wear it...

Now, now, Vikki, that is rather catty. FWIW, I agree that the pink dress is an eyesore, but each to her own.

springthorn · 13/11/2013 13:58

I'm not sure it's an age thing, more that different styles suit different personalities.

Vikki88 · 13/11/2013 16:37

I didn't say it to be catty, I was being sincere.

sparklysilversequins · 13/11/2013 16:42

I think it looks like something Joan would wear on Mad Men, it was my first thought.

Financeprincess · 13/11/2013 16:49

Vikki, in the nicest possible way, is it too late to swap dresses? Thought the second River Island one you posted was rather chic.

Financeprincess · 13/11/2013 16:54

...and I like Fauxfox's first three choices.

springthorn · 13/11/2013 17:08

Vikki the River Island one also comes in red if you wanted something more fun than black.
