Ever think that these kind of forums are bad for you?

I'm spending a fortune on clothes and make-up, spending hours rifling through beauty blogs and forums and all I get for it is a lighter wallet and anxiety over my new-found hobby of self-absorption!

Should I get a life offline or console myself with yet another 'how to put on foundation' youtube vid?

I've never had such a collection of cleansers. One used to be enough but now I have to rotate three and get all in a pickle if my blush is too 'warm'.

Anyone else?

Yup every day I tell myself not to come here ..I cant afford to ...

Desperately in need of a 12 step programme to help me stop..

Berry I think you have a point! We're clearly trying to find our way through the minefield that is a half century! I'm still struggling to recognise my face in the mirror, never mind work out what blush will work and if I need an illuminating concealer or plain brown paper bag Shock

(I know which is cheaper)...

I'm a similar age to you too, and I have bought so much stuff that's been recommended here! Mind you, I'm absolutely sure I look at least 10 years younger...

I recommend a life offline - much more rewarding and you might even accumulate savings towards your pension Wink

Many of us genuinely need a post-baby / midlife makeover and this is a great place to get support and advice, but if you think you are overdoing it (I did), I really recommend the blog Recovering Shopaholic and various minimalism or Project 333 blogs and sites.

I'm looking at 56.. have finally lost a lot of weight and got back to what i was in my 20s early 30s and have become seriously vain it seems ( now its too late for any pretence at youthful gorgeousness as I dont have the body/ taut skin any more)Sad

Ah well . if the rejuvenating creams dont work (and they dont) . I can still wear the clothes ( only I cant afford to buy any more since coming here )..Hmm

It's a lot better here than when "Trinny and Tranny" were on TV and would babble on about how if you didn't bin bag 7/8ths of your wardrobe and buy all new stuff you had no self respect and your husband would leave you, your children turn their backs on you...................that was an expensive time of my life!

I love this forum! Ok yes I have spent money trying new things but I've found some great things, recommended by real people, not magazines and I have benefitted from it
( sulphate free shampoos, new moisturisers, foundations etc)

Don't have any girly friends to talk about this stuff with so I really appreciate people's knowledge and willingness to share on here

Think I'm looking better too...

Just keep your wits about you and recognise what works for you personally. For me it's inexpensive coconut oil for example. I do love the escapism of this board, the kindness and humour. When I first.started coming on here I got carried away but I'm cannier now and think I'd still have a wardrobe full of primark crap instead of a more slimline, functional wardrobe...

I just wish I'd had the confidence when I was younger to do all this.

Yep - spend too much money, have to many products and despite that latter point I still always need "something new", whether it's clothing or an eyeshadow.

I feel guilty because I have 2 DCs - 3rd on the way - and feel I shouldn't be so interested in makeup and clothes anymore!

Me too, although it's mainly confined to products rather than clothes. I have tried many, many things thanks to these boards and half of them have been crap, but many have been brilliant. Overall I have a lot more confidence in my appearance and will wear things that I wouldn't have done 10 years ago (black nail varnish for example). My skin and hair are in their best condition ever too.

Yep!But I'm 31 with a 14 year old Blush so shouldn't have an excuse.But being a full time carer to ds now (severe autistic) with absolutely no help,no life and an ex who ran off with a married woman (and doesn't want to see ds) who looks like a bloke and wears board shorts or safari shorts with T-shirts,plain flip flops and ski jackets or hoodies (yes,all together!!!She's 26 Lmfao) I feel thoroughly shit about my appearance and have lost my way over the years!

Yes this board is very bad for me! Every time I come here I end up on some website or other ordering something and telling myself it doesn't matter because it's free returns... Hmm Really need to step away and stop thinking about clothes!

I am quite interested in the way that this forum seems to have certain styles, products or clothing etc that are approved and certain others that are definitely not.

Oh yes! I spend far too much time on here a d can get slightly obsessive about things but the plus points far outweigh the bad. I have a fab wardrobe, I enjoy the escapism of being a SAHM and I've made real life friends from the vogue thread Smile

I always think that there is one more thing I need and then everything will be perfect. But every time, I find one more thing to obsess about to complete my collection.

The collection will never be complete. Is this sad or exciting? I really don't know!

At the minute, mine is a cream blusher. I've got no end of powder blushers, but now I've been convinced that I would look so much fresher with a cream blusher. And only one for the best part of £20 will do. I despair of myself!

I've also been asked what I've been thinking about when I've got a distant faraway look, like I must be thinking some real big clever thoughts. Only the answer is 'I wonder how much nicer cream blusher would look with my new foundation."

I enjoy these threads but the older I get, the more I agree with peasypeeler - I wear what I like. So what if it's 'mutton' etc. I don't care. Clothes are there to be enjoyed.

binks ooh, ooh, me too! I've 'read' that a cream blusher is de rigeur at my age and then they tell me that one from Bourjois is perfect. Noooo - surely not! Surely I can spend much more than THAT to look fresh and dewy Grin
