Are they all totally bleugh or can they look remotely trendy/stylish?

I've just bought the Sallywood in black from Jack Murphy. It's quite fitted and looks really smart.

BurberryFucker · 02/11/2013 12:08

fine if it is Barbour or Belstaff.....
just don't ever smoke when wearing one, they reek.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 02/11/2013 13:56

Can't stretch to pricey ones unfortunately.

My dad has offered to buy me one as an early Christmas present and he has never bought me a Christmas (or birthday!) present before. So it's tempting.

BUT he's limited it to either one of the Tesco ones (belted one isn't bad but I prefer the colour of the purple one, that's not bad-if tightened at the waist-either)
www.clothingattesco.com/page/search/?termtextkeywordsearch=wax Which he'd probably get with clipboard vouchers!

Or,one from his catalogue as he'll get £20 off and pay weekly (he's not skint, just likes spending £50 a week on lottery and scratchcards!)

I have the purple one and it's fantastic quality for the price. It's also very warm. The only problem I have with is it is the length. I'm tall and it skims my bum!

thenightsky · 02/11/2013 19:34

I've got the purple tesco one and I think it makes me look really slim due to being able to pull it in a bit at the waist.

LordPalmerston · 02/11/2013 19:35

oh god just get the tesco one

LordPalmerston · 02/11/2013 19:36

oh hahah! i thought links would be to barbour
I got a tesco one last year and get NO END of nice comments about it

then this year got another one for sport watching, not as nice really but more practical - warmer and with a hood

LordPalmerston · 02/11/2013 19:37

the $35 oen is my year 2 one - the cut not as nice as year 1
this new one looks nice

Yeah,I quite like the belted one.It sucks when you're torn between colour and shape lol May try them both on

I have the non-belted Tesco one in green, and it's lovely. Very practical, comfy, and looks great with skinny jeans and DMs.

NomDeOrdinateur · 02/11/2013 20:06

Also - I tried the oxblood colour and it looked dreadful on me (pale and cool toned olive skin, dark brown hair, browny-greeny eyes), so you may want to try it on before buying if your colouring is similar!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/11/2013 20:09

Not for me.
I wore one in my horse-riding days to stay dry.
And yes, I looked gorgeous in my long boots, jodhpurs and carrying a whip, but I smelled Grin

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 02/11/2013 20:32

That just reminded me to make sure I don't get one that looks horsey with knee boots!

VerySmallSqueak · 02/11/2013 20:35

They smell.
I won't let DH keep his indoors.

Bleurgh!

thenightsky · 02/11/2013 20:47

Tesco one doesn't smell Confused

LordPalmerston · 02/11/2013 20:55

yes i hate the smell too - thats for real ones

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 02/11/2013 21:02

I hope it doesn't smell!Smells aren't good with parrots in the house!

OP posts:
perplexedpirate · 02/11/2013 21:16

Seriously? I though these things were long gone.
We used to wear them for stomping around shooting grounds. They are heavy, ugly and they stink.
You also have to keep re-waxing them, iirc.
Modern fabrics must be an improvement, surely???

NomDeOrdinateur · 02/11/2013 21:29

TripTrap - don't worry, AFAIK parrots have a very weak sense of smell (and taste). Mine does, anyway Grin.

womma · 02/11/2013 21:30

They can be mighty pongy in my experience.

NomDeOrdinateur · 02/11/2013 21:35

Unless it's a species that sheds a lot of dander (like cockatiels and cockatoos), the only reason for a pongy parrot is a poorly maintained cage IME. Mine gets her sandpaper changed every 3-4 days, and she's not whiffy Smile.

womma · 02/11/2013 21:58

I meant waxed jackets, not parrots!

NomDeOrdinateur · 02/11/2013 22:27

Oops! May I blame the mulled wine I've been drinking all evening? Wink

Seriously, I had no idea waxed jackets have a reputation for being smelly - mine have all been fine, but admittedly none are heavily waxed...

suebfg · 02/11/2013 22:31

The fashion waxed jackets don't tend to be smelly like Barbour etc as they tend to be 'faux' waxed. They aren't like the Barbour jackets in that respect.

Beaverfeaver · 03/11/2013 09:59

I love the smell of barb ours. Takes me back to when I was little
