What do we think of waxed jackets?

I had the tesco. £35 waxed coat but returned it tge £42 is the longer belted dark blue wax

The tesco one is just right length for me covers my bum and slightly longer at tgd back and the fit is true to size. Arms but short fir me I'm 5 ft 7 and size 10. I wore one of my waterproof Barbours today kept me lovely and dry but love that the Tesco one did, looks lovely and was only. £42!!

Thanks for your replies, LadyVetinari and thenightsky. As I'm looking at the long line one, guessing it will cover my bum. None of my coats are waterproof, and as I've got soaked through more than twice in the last week, one of these jackets is essential!!

I am sitting next to mine, it is smelly but a nice smelly, brings back happy memories. It is 24 years old and my daughter has also taken to wearing it on occasions when she needs something waterproof. I am hoping it will last another 24 years.

My tesco one is a 12 and true to size i'd say. I'm 5ft 8in and it skims my arse. The sleeves are only just long enough though.

Madmog - mine is a 10, and I'd say it's true to size (it's not roomy but does up comfortably, and my measurements are 37", 25", 37"). I'm short (5'1) and it just covers my arse . It has a drawstring waist, so the sizing is quite forgiving.

I bought a navy and green one when I was young (late 80's/90's) when they were trendy. The navy one I had to get separate furry gilet for.

I gave them away.... LOL

am still wondering if this was wise or not?!

How do the Tescos jackets fit for size, ie are they big, small or true. Also, I'm only 155cm so do they come up long.

Looking at the blue long lined one with a belt as it's got a hood!

I had the tesco one in the burgundy colour - impressed with it though leaked rain in one arm (only one!!) so u returned it. I ordered the longer blue belted one and picked it up today and had many admiring comments on the school run. I do love Barbour jackets though mine are all the waterproof and breathable rather than waxed (we gave an outlet near where we live hence why I gave 4 )

I have a fashion one and can 100% say that mine is not waterproof. I would say it is suitable for light showers only.

I have been wearing my Barbour since 1989; my God it whiffs.

I only wear it outdoors. I used to stuff it in a bag on public transport.

My Tesco one has kept me dry in torrential rain. It doesn't have storm cuffs though, so I did need to get some gloves with thick cuffs to plug up the gap.

After getting soaked at the weekend, I was looking at M&S online but their waxed jackets aren't waterproof, so any help appreciated.

Yes a hood would have been useful. I think I'll switch over to my Merrell when the rains come!

The fashion waxed jackets don't tend to be smelly like Barbour etc as they tend to be 'faux' waxed. They aren't like the Barbour jackets in that respect.

Seriously, I had no idea waxed jackets have a reputation for being smelly - mine have all been fine, but admittedly none are heavily waxed...

Unless it's a species that sheds a lot of dander (like cockatiels and cockatoos), the only reason for a pongy parrot is a poorly maintained cage IME. Mine gets her sandpaper changed every 3-4 days, and she's not whiffy .
