Charcoal grey long cardi - it's like wanting the moon on a stick...

That's all I want. A charcoal grey cardi. I feel like I've looked everywhere. I got one in Primarni yesterday but I'm not feeling it really...

It needs to be:
Long - at least below hips
Good quality - pref no man made fabric
Have no angora in it
Have no mother of pearl buttons down the sleeves
Really properly charcoal, not marl/flannel
Straight - no waterfall crap

Pref no more than 50 quid. I would prefer it to do up with buttons but I'd take an open style at this point.

I have looked at Oasis (too light grey), M&S (too waterfally), Primarni (too thin), Next (buttons everywhere), Woolovers (too big), H&M (too thin) and NewLook (just not right).

Please help!!

Have you tried Boden? I've got a fab dark grey cardi from there last year I think.

Lovely quality. I wear it over jeans and tops or over dresses.

I think it's the boyfriend cardigan.

indecisiveandclueless · 28/10/2013 13:17

Tesco got one for £12, man-made fibres but soft and washes well.

50shadesofmeh · 28/10/2013 13:20

Most my cardigans are from Uniqlo

exexpat · 28/10/2013 13:26

I was going to say Uniqlo too. They have this one but it's a bit over budget (cashmere, though).

thepurplepenguin · 28/10/2013 13:27

I have also looked at Uniqlo 50shades as I have merino jumpers from there which I love but they only have cashmere long cardis.

Indecisive, was the tesco one dark grey? Have seen some in there but only light colours.

Didn't think of Boden, thanks Dancergirl...

This one almost meets your criteria but does have a gather at the back. Also wont be that warm being viscose

I got one from Primark on Friday - it's proper charcoal coloured. Manmade fibres again but it only cost a few quid and I have other Primarni woollens and they all wash well.

exexpat · 28/10/2013 13:38

Try Gap - this one or this one or this one?

Or I might look at some men's ranges - if you want it long, and don't mind pushing sleeves up a bit. You often get nice plain things with better quality materials for lower prices in the men's section.

Follyfoot · 28/10/2013 13:41

How about this one? If you ignore the 1960's knitting pattern styling of the advert, there's a decent cardi there...

Follyfoot · 28/10/2013 13:42

Sorry, just seen that you have already looked at Woolovers.

ShreddedHoops · 28/10/2013 13:55

I have this one from Peacocks, any good?

thepurplepenguin · 28/10/2013 13:55

Yes folly the Woolovers one is pretty much perfect but I am a 6-8 and from reading the reviews I just don't think it would fit.

Candy I think that's the one I bought. It's ok but it's not my holy grail of grey boyfriend cardis! Good to hear it should wash well though.

Exexpat, I like the Gap ones. Will see if I can give one of those a whirl. Thank you...

I saw a bloody gorgeous one in Mint Velvet. Over my budget, though. £100, I think.

bigbrick · 28/10/2013 13:59

lots of long grey on La Redoute www.laredoute.co.uk/women-cardigans/cat-207.aspx#ColorFamily*grey|

thepurplepenguin · 28/10/2013 14:00

Ooh shredded that's rather nice actually. What are the buttons like?

thepurplepenguin · 28/10/2013 14:01

Don't mention Mint Velvet... Bloody love that stuff but can rarely afford it!

I'm out atm so can't check but they're quite inoffensive and not cheap looking - I think dark sort of tortoishelly? Not mother of pearl. The cardi fabric is alright, thin enough to drape well but has kept its shape and not stretched at the bottom after washing (my cardi bugbear)

cressetmama · 29/10/2013 15:37

If you can, spend a bit more... I bought a charcoal cashmere boyfriend style in Germany in the sales 14 years ago, and it comes out again every winter. It was quite expensive... about £75 then, but in terms of cost per wear, it's almost free.

aoife24 · 30/10/2013 02:41

Massimo Dutti does a long Greg card I, not buttons.

DesperateHousewife21 · 30/10/2013 09:35

I was going to say Kaliko too. I got one from there a couple of Jan sales ago for half price £25 and its still like new.

thepurplepenguin · 30/10/2013 14:11

Thank you all

cresset I see your point about spending more but I can't even find one I really love outside my price range!

I am not keen on the gathering on the Kaliko one and there aren't any others in there at the mo (looked in-store yesterday).

I am going to pop to Peacocks and if that doesn't work I think I'll probably go for the Gap eversoft one (although it does sound suspiciously like 'cashmillion'!)

Need to petition Woolovers to start making an xs!

On the plus side I bought this [[http://m.oasis-stores.com/oversized-faux-leather-stripe-jumper/cardigans-&-jumpers/oasis/fcp-product/3610182216 jumper]] in Oasis and it's lush...
