Mutton Dressed as lamb - am I too much of an old hag for this ?

Right then ladies.

I need an honest opinion on this dress
madeinpreston.com/dresses/green-leather-bodycon

I'm 45 size 10 ish but large of nork and 5ft 4

Love the dress but should I be steering more towards a twin set and pearls ?

I don't think that's too young at all...quite nice, in fact!

MrsCampbellBlack · 25/10/2013 16:06

Not a twinset and pearls but there is a middle ground.

For me its a little TOWIE I guess. But if you've tried it and think it looks good - ignore me Wink

But I do know that anything I've bought that I feel is a little mutton, well it just doesn't get worn.

sweetheart · 25/10/2013 16:07

Do you have good arms? Also it looks quite long if you are 5Ft 4 - is it below knee length?

Roshbegosh · 25/10/2013 16:08

It's fine if it fits and suits you.
You are in your prime! Forget the mutton stuff, if you look good in it then rock it.

SundaySimmons · 25/10/2013 16:09

Not mutton at all.

I'm older than you and would wear that. Maybe not green as it's not my colour but the style definately. Actually scrap that, I've had another look, I would wear that. The green is rather nice. Yes, I like that dress.

What footwear do you have in mind? Nothing clumpy I hope!

I quite like it and don't think it's muttony. However

  1. I'm 5'4 and that dress would come down to my ankles Confused
  1. I'd be concerned about the quality especially the 'leather' bits for £45.
dexter73 · 25/10/2013 16:16

What do you want it for? Wedding - too much. Night out - fine.

MrsCampbellBlack · 25/10/2013 16:19

I think its the faux leather panels that don't work. If they were normal material it would be ok.

I'm a little bit younger than you and would feel I was channeling Carol Vorderman if I wore that dress.

Mabelface · 25/10/2013 16:20

Wear what you want and hang what other people think. If you feel good in something, even if it's a fluorescent yellow poncho with snowboots then that's all that matters.

Mollydoggerson · 25/10/2013 16:21

The dress looks a bit cheap and for that reason I think it would not look great on a woman in her 40'S. I think 25 year oldss can get away with the cheap stuff, but as we mature we need to buy better fabrics.

midlandslurker · 25/10/2013 16:21

Thank you

Sweetheart - no bingo wings as yet - mind you I'll double check when I've got my contact lenses in.

Sunday - was thinking maybe I could team it with a pair of nice sensible "cosy feet" shoes - the ones with the velcro ? Actually have a pair of black peep toe heels that would go.

Think I'll order it ,see what it looks like on and ask a mate for an honest opinion.

The problem is I'm still 20 in my head and don't feel ready to start dressing like my mother yet ,but then again I don't want to be the talk of the works 'xmas do' for all the wrong reasons.

re the quality - You've got me thinking..........Perhaps you are right about the faux leather panels !!

I do love the style and the fact that its made to fit your bra size and as a 32ff I find regular dresses just don't fit right.

Can anyone suggest something similar- suitable for a night out , will fit my norks but without the faux leather effect ? Price not a major factor

Thanks

MrsCampbell nail on head. It is so Vorderman!

Not sure that's a good thing OP.

Will have a mooch for you.

tethersend · 25/10/2013 16:31

This?

MrsCampbellBlack · 25/10/2013 16:31

I like bodycon but think you need to spend a bit more - what's your budget?

sweetheart · 25/10/2013 16:33

check out the pretty dress company - they have tons of Carol Vorderman - esk dresses on there. I think some little cap sleeves would possibly look better.

MrsCampbellBlack · 25/10/2013 16:37

Reiss has some nice dresses but they're much more £££. Also worth looking on asos for more affordable

midlandslurker · 25/10/2013 16:40

tethersend - love that dress esp the colour, the only thing is I'd have to wear a one strap/strapless bra with it and my shape of boobs tend to suit balcony styles better. All the strapless ones don't seem to particularly flatter mine.

Mrscampbellblack - could go up to £100 or maybe a little more if I'm gonna knock 'em dead !

V necks seem to suit me more or I could go for a top and trouser combo ?

Oh and my legs ain't too bad ( if that helps)

Off for a run now & will check in later.

tethersend · 25/10/2013 16:43

The reiss one has two straps, you could wear a normal bra with it- scroll down for a better pic.

sweetheart · 25/10/2013 16:43

I like this one similar to yours
this one comes in more colours
and
this one

tethersend · 25/10/2013 16:44

If you've good legs, this would be great with heels and clutch...

sweetheart · 25/10/2013 16:44

ohhh and one more

tethersend · 25/10/2013 16:45

Sweetheart's first one is nice...

tethersend · 25/10/2013 16:48

That's a good site actually, sweetheart- what's the quality like?

This is good...
